Per Chan Gailey - Barring injury, Geno is Week 1 starter

Did the CS make the right decision regarding Geno

  1. Yes - Geno was the only viable option at Qb so why not name his the starter and be done.

  2. No- There should have been competition for the job. Geno should have had to earn it.

  3. This is May. It doesn't matter what the CS says.

    It's not a overreaction.

Brady is out the first four weeks the AFC East Title is within reach. EVERY game counts!

"If Geno blows, Fitz can step in"

Could cost us a division title.

Go with the best QB right from the start if that's Geno let him earn it in camp enough with the gift wrapped starting jobs BS.

he has won 8 games in a season, 2 more than Fitz has ever won but he has never won anything meaningful. The thing is that he is still young and developing and has never had playoff talent around him, this year that changes. He may still suck but I'd rather take my chances w/ Geno than go w/ the known of Fitz who will never take us anywhere. The reality is the QB that we can win big w/ is most likely not on our roster yet.

Yeah, it's only May 20th and it's already clear we have an idiot for an OC.

On what planet is Smith entitled to have the job handed to him without competition?

No, it's overreacting. The spread offense suits Geno, and I think his collegiate career is evidence. Marshall is already rooming with Geno. Decker already played with Geno. He can throw the deep ball with great accuracy which works in his favor considering who we drafted in the second round. All signs point to Geno being the starter.

Again, Fitz is coming off a broken leg and knows the offense. He doesn't need first team reps. I'm not a fan of there being no competition because of how it would have pushed Geno mentally, but in the end, Geno is the better fit and Fitz is the safe backup plan.

    LWilliams was a great pick

I think what has occurred here is that GSmiths psychiatrist and his therapist both called Gailly and told him Geno would have nervous breakdown due to unheralded job pressure. So his prescription is be annointed starter, eat plenty of hot dogs, and take plenty of rest before training camp.

If Gailey thinks it should be Geno then it should be Geno.

I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

Seems like our HC and company are making the same old stupid mistake. Just giving the job to Geno is a mistake waiting to happen. If he earns it, it's one thing just giving it to him is looking for trouble. I say more than likely this will blow up in his face and it will feed the anti Geno media. Just how f#cking stupid can we get?? JMO

Man so many overreactions on this thread.

Does no one recall that Fitzmagic doesn't even have a leg to stand on at this point? Of course Geno's the starter at the moment, and he will likely be unless someone unseats him (which won't be terribly difficult, but likely won't happen in the end).

It's such a loser mentality--maybe Gailey will change his tune after talking to Bowles--we can only hope--just fuckin' sucks to have to be tortured like this

Mac prob on the phone trying to sign some able bodied QB since Fitz is so hobbled.

Geno has fooled us once, has fooled us twice, and now a third time?

Hard to stomach coaches dont see he has AMTRAC written on his tshirt

Because every position is a competition in training camp. It doesn't matter what is said ON MAY 20TH, if Fitz, Simms or Petty outplay Geno he is gone. They probably just said this to shut the media up, knowing they would ask relentlessly about a QB competition if they left it open ended. I think people are too used to Rex Ryan being so open. I don't believe for a second that behind closed doors every QB isn't being told they have a chance to start.

I don't like the Jets announcing who the starting QB is in May, given the QBs on the roster. Neither Geno or Fitzpatrick should be given the starting QB position. I think the team should have an open QB competition where the best man wins.

First off, who made it a big deal? Second off, what the hell do you even mean by this? Third, don't you have to be something once before you're that thing AGAIN?

geno is a known. he is a known bottom 5 qb. also, wins arent the only measure, and are mostly a team stat. fitz is clearly the better player, although that isnt saying much and fitz is at best average

or only chance to "go anywhere" this season is to limit turnovers. geno wont do that

Agree but why doesn't the coach state the facts. He could have said "as it stands now" instead he says:
Chan Gailey: Jets won't have QB competition, Geno Smith is the starter
