Not to many years ago if a team scored 9 points against the Ravens defense people would say "sounds about right." But when the Jets do it while calling terrible plays and making terrible mental mistakes it seems crazy? We all know the Ravens D is great, but we also know the Jets offense is better than they performed last night.
Agreed, mostly. It's hard to gauge a team after week 1 but this Ravens team is special. I think if both teams played to their full potential we could have edged them out by a field goal. Our defense, apart from the mistakes and Cro/Wilson, played incredibly well. If the offense showed some semblance of NFL-calibre playcalling and talent then we would have been sitting pretty with a 7+ point lead. It's ridiculous for a team to win the turnover battle, dominate field position all game, and be so stingy on defense while still losing the game.
The front 7 is insane- Keep crying though, that should get you pretty far. We lost 10-9 to a valid Super Bowl Contender, Aaaahhh. The same Ravens team that manhandled the Pats at home in the playoffs last year. (33-14) I agree with NJurIceCream2K
They weren't a great D yesterday. Their secondary was beat up, so I'm not exactly sure why you're using that as an excuse for the offense's putrid performance. If you can't score a TD even against a great defense, your offense sucks. Plain and simple. Again, get off your high horse.
I am not making excuses for the offense. I said they executed horribly and playcalled horribly. Couldn't do much worse. But its not like they were playing a bad defense. The Ravens are great. Thats my point. The Jets won't be that bad again offensively this year. So why would people think they are a bad team? They won't play a better defense this year (except for practice), so people need to stop being so down on the Jets. You would think the team lost 45-3 and Sanchez had 5 picks.
The Pats didn't score a TD against in week 2 last year, did you expect them to do that all year? It is one game against a great defense. our receivers were tightly covered not even mentioning the front 7 again. You live and learn, or you can live and cry about everything. We will win the next 2 games and have sole ownership of first place at the end of week 3. So until keep saying how much this guy sucks or that coach blows and when we are in first you can start enjoying the ride again. When I say you I don't mean just you, it's everyone that doesn't realize what last night was.
It's a long season. Rex and the team open themselves up to getting killed the day after like this because of who they are. That's fine. THIS IS STILL A REALLY GOOD FUCKING FOOTBALL TEAM. I'll say the same thing after we go 0-2 because we were killed by Wes Welker.
Well they did rank #9 last year in points scored with a 2nd yr QB. Now they have a 3rd yr QB that tore up the best pass D in the NFL and has a new #1 and #3 WR. So yeah, they do have an excellent offense. Maybe not the best, but close to a top 5.
It is pretty funny how the Jets are getting killed today and the Ravens are being praised. If the Ravens don't get a couple of calls they may not score at all. They have a better QB,RB, and WRs and needed penalties to win it. It is what it is and the Jets deserve some negative press today but if they get it so should the Ravens. It's not like the Jets played the Bills.
I wish I could agree with this, but we gave the game away. If we played our heart out and they barely beat us I could accept it. However, the penalties were ridiculous and the offense didn't even look like it was trying. I would have been happier if we threw it down the field some and he got picked, at least it meant we tried. It's not like the rest of our schedule is much easier either. I'm hoping we see a very different team vs NE.
I'm honestly not that impressed with the Ravens D. The Jets offense is what killed themselves. Anyone could defend a crap gameplan like that. The Ravens allowed 5.5 YPC to a team that was afraid to throw a pass more then 5 yards down field. The Jets were still able to pound the ball and run it well. The problem was that we couldn't convert the 2nd and 3rd and shorts with passes. Had we been able to just convert a few of those we would've been able to establish a much more consistent run game instead of the 21 carries.
14 points would have looked pretty good last night though don't you think? The Ravens are a damn good team, but - not trolling here - your offense is a complete and total mess. I mean, Schotty and Sanchez were having trouble getting plays called in the final 2:00, let alone executing them. It was like watching a college offense against a pro defense. There's no questions about the Jets' defense, but I don't think you can take what was a historically bad performance by the NY offense and chalk it up to the Ravens being that good. If they really are as good as they looked against Sanchez, then we might as well crown them champs tomorrow.
This is why I love your posts. Very informed and knowledgeable read on the game. We were awful on O but hey, we could have won this game late which I agree would have been grand larceny. Better to get a smack in the mouth early than light it up all year and fizzle out. We will be fine if they take the shackles of Sanchez.
We really don't. People have a right to be pissed about how we lost. The fact that we lost isn't the issue so I don't wanna hear about how good the ravens are.
The refs handed Baltimore that one touchdown, and that turned out to be all they needed to win. After watching that game last night, I'm really kind of shocked I don't see any Jet players or coaches saying that publicly, but I guess they know they'd just get killed in the press, so why bother saying it. That roughing the kicker call was a joke, and those refs seemed to think that pass interference is a justifiable call anytime they see man coverage. Before those penalties, the Jets defense was suffocating the Ravens. After, the Jets secondary just seemed deflated and beaten. The Jets offense does have to produce more, but I think they will against other teams. This seemed like Ryan wanted to win solely with the running game and defense to prove a point to the Ravens organization that his new team is tougher. He won't have a chip on his shoulder against other teams. Honestly, there's no way I can be convinced that Schottenheimer didn't want to go after the Ravens depleted secondary. This smells like the head coach sticking his nose into the offense a little more than maybe he should. Also, if David Harris and Bart Scott want to be in the same discussion as Ray Lewis, can they please start blowing guys up the way Lewis blew up Shonn Greene and Dustin Keller last night?
I said it before in another thread, but Joe Flacco is the genuine article. He's got one of the best young LT's in the league (and a pretty good line overall) he's got one of the best young running backs in the league, he's got a stellar set of wide receivers and he's got the Ravens defense. That team is the real deal.
The Ravens are an excellent team----but if we play the next 3 games as we did last nite I do not care how good our D plays we might be ohhhhhhh n 4!!!!! The undiciplined penalties---the lack luster play calling and qb play, the inability to run the ball and the secondary playing as it did last nite ? Make no mistake the Pats will go 4 and 5 wide the whole game and we will have our hands full this week in what I believe is a must game. I won't take any consolation if we lose the next 3 games by a point each game--a loss is a loss!
this ... in my opinion they will not pull a cam cameron an run it into the belly of the jets d for 2 downs and consistently be in 3rd and longs .. i was baffled by the ravens play calling last night on the offensive side ..
