For me it is a little different. I want to know what is wrong with him and determine if it can be fixed. He is floating balls over the heads of his receivers or throwing at their feet. What happend to the accurate passer? I have never seen Chad miss people this bad. Once it is determined if it can be fixed then decide if you start him or Clemons.
Interesting that all of the national media outlets are talking about how an AFC team with playoff hopes should bench their starting QB if he has one more bad game, since he's doing so poorly with his 10 TDs and 11 INTs for the year. That would be Jake Plummer and Denver, who are 7-3 and much more in the playoff race than our Jets. In his last three games Plummer has 5 TDs and 4 INTs, and the offense has scored 8 TDs, yet apparently people are anxious to dump him in favor of a rookie. In contrast, in his last three games Chad Pennington has 1 TD and 5 INTs, and the offense has scored 2 TDs. Personally I think Denver would be crazy to go with Cutler now, but I find this an interesting contrast compared to what is going on in New Jersey. Speaking of New Jersey, in his last three games Eli Manning has 2 TDs and 5 INTs, and the offense has scored 5 TDs. I'm quite sure we won't be seeing their effectively-a-rookie QB this year.
Uhhh, you've clearly lost your mind. I frequently check the threads I POST TO FOR RESPONSES. Can I help it if yours stick out like sore thumbs? Everything we say is polar opposite of what the other thinks. Now I know you're always right and all so I won't try to make it sound like it's level playing ground. But stalking? Last year? Sir, son, whatever you prefer to call yourself, don't flatter yourself.
It's called playing a good defense. Happens to him pretty much every time. Against New England he wasn't great or anything, but that was by far the best performance I've ever seen him have against a good defense. His best performance, that resulted in something like 168 yards, 1 TD 1 INT and like 5 ypa. Lucky for the Jets, the field conditions were awful, so that was enough. Maybe if we water down our field it'll work, too bad the true owners of "our" home stadium will complain, since they actually have a QB that can throw deeper passes. I so wish we had on our own stadium, that's just so sickeningly pathetic. EDIT-I should say outside of 2002. He was pretty darned good in 2002, and most of us fell in love with him then. But we have to realize that was a mirage, we're never getting that again. Teams know how to gameplan for him now, and they're not playing an anti-Vinny defense anymore, which Chad can cut apart. They're playing an anti-Chad defense. If Chad could just force teams to play the deep ball, the man would probably easily be in the top 3 year in and year out of QBs. But unfortunately, he simply does not have the physical talent for that. If Clemens can learn what Pennington can teach him and then ADD the deep ball to his game, he can be the player Pennington should have been able to be if he was just more physically talented. We'll just have to see. Chad is a classy guy, so if we eventually decide to move in the direction of Clemens, I'm hoping Chad is there as a mentor for him, at least to shore up that part of his game.
To be fair, Cutler is viewed as some sort of demi-god by some media outlets, and Plummer already has a few years worth of craptasticness to refer back to. They want a change because they've been here with this QB before and they remember what happens to him in the playoffs. It's not at all the same.
As I said in my original post, I think Denver would be crazy to throw Cutler in now, but as 3rd noted, Plummer seems to be graded on a very different curve than is Pennington. In the last 3 1/2 years Plummer has 70 TDs and 45 INTs in 53 games, and is averaging 215 yards per game. Denver beat New England one year in the playoffs, and lost to Indy twice and Pittsburgh last year. Over the same time period Pennington has 41 TDs and 35 INTs in 36 games, and is averaging 200 yards per game. I'm not sure what the difference is that reflects better on Pennington.
The difference is Denver has expectations to win and they don't believe that Plummer is the man to get them over the top. Jet fans on the other hand think a 10 win season is the goal every year and they believe Pennington is capable of getting 10 wins.
While I think you'd be hard pressed to make the case that Plummer has been a great(or even good) postseason QB, it's worth noting the points his defense has given up in the 4 losses: 41, 41, 49 and 34. Now, that first loss was with the Cardinals who were ranked 25th in the league in scoring defense. But the last 3 were with Denver, where they were in the top 10 in scoring defense the first 2 years, and top 5 last year. As I said I don't think all that much of Plummer but looking over the past 4 years he's certainly been alot more effective then Pennington and people are acting like Pennington can't possibly be replaced at this point.
In terms of the last few years, then yes. Plummer had a very good season last year before his implosion in the Championship game. But this year, both Pennington and Plummer are having identical below-average seasons. Pennington has 1888 yards 10 TDs 11 INTs 76.8 QB rating Plummer has 1778 10 TDs 11 INTs 69.7 QB Rating What's keeping these QBs alive is their record, 5-5 and 7-3, respectively. If both were 3-7 or even 4-6, then we'd be seeing Kellen Clemens and Jay Cutler. Both QBs are having a short leash, Plummer's probably tighter, but it isn't far off.
Plummer also plays for a team with a significantly better defense and running game. Plummer should be putting up better #s than Pennington.
If it actually happens it would be the strangest QB decision in the NFL since Week 15 of 1992 in Buffalo*, in my opinion. I just don't understand how a head coach of a 7-3 team announces a QB switch for a Week 13 game when there is still a Week 12 game to be played. Shanahan will look like a genius or an absolute moron a month from now after we see how this all plays out. *That was the day when John Elway was injured. Dan Reeves decided to alternate between Tommy Maddox and Shawn Moore all game.
How about the Bills in 99? Flutie is 10-5 as the starter and gets the last week off as Rob Johnson carves up the Colts in a meaningless game for both teams. Bridge troll Wade Phillips then names him as the starter for the Bills first round playoff game. Johnson plays absolutely miserable but the Bills make a late FG to take the lead. Then karma pays them back as the music city miracle occurs.
Right on the money. I hate to say this but if the Giants had Chad they would be in great shape. Are the Giants killing Manning II the imposter,on their sites because they should. We have the smartest QB in the NFL who is doing everything to get the job done. I was sick Sunday like every Jet but hey, lets get with the programme-play-offs still possible, 2007- look out!
