I love how all our "TEAM" guys are rejecting offers to re do thier deals...

Well people, it's time for the buisness end of this relation ship with the players to take over, and now is the time to trim the fat, all of it

Wave Bye Bye to all our Vets that won't restructure

    Mawae - Later
    Penny - Later
    Law - Later
    Sowell - Later
    Kendall - Later
Fabini - later, even if you were willing to restructure
Martin, since you'll restructure you can stay...

The Cap hits are going to happen, and now is the perfect time. We can bounce all our overpriced old men, injured players and anyone else not compitent enough for the new managements liking and just deal. Start bringin in fresh faces and ATHLETES. No time like the present.

IMO, just like some of the other posters have said, this is Texas hold em'. The only problem is the Jets have the chip lead and have 2 pocket kings suited, and Chad is down on Chips and has an 8 and a 2 unsuited. If Chad goes "all in" here and holds out for the signed contract amount, the Jets will call it, and Chad will be cut.

Last time I checked a football organization is not in the practice of just giving away free money. Chad has been paid over a million dollars a game for every game he has played in since signing this contract. He needs to do a reality check.

Come to the table and cut a deal that shows that you understand the upside of re-structuring the deal or be cut. And I am with all of you - he'd be signed for the league minimum after that.

Mawae better get off his high horse too.

This is a time to give back something to the hand that fed you. I didn't say work for free, but be reasonable.

I hate to say this, but I would lose a lot of respect for the core of our team, the guys we hung our hat on, if they snubbed the front office entirely, and just said "cut me", and walked. Then they'd all go running to Herm like lost sheep in a storm.

Penny never said that he won't restructure, just that he won't take the first offer, I hope that if Mawae is gone that Kendall can stay, maybe Cavka will end up being a huge part of our oline next year, Law was going anyway so that doesn't matter, Fabini was crap, and Sowell is aging

If it were me... there wouldn't be a discussion... all of em would be cut and I'd dop it now, so the entire league knew what we were diong, I'd tag Abe too, today, and take out a full page ad in every NFL city thats says up to the highest bidder...

Wow this is certainly going to be an interesting offseason. Honestly lets cut all these guys now Martin, Chad , Fabini, Mawae, hell throw J-mac in there as well. If we are going to be stuck in cap limbo let Mangini and Tanny build their team with guys they want on the team then when we are primed to make a run we have the cap space to bring in some top quality FA's.

There is a difference between rebuilding and turning into the Bengals, Cardinals, and Lions.

Time to face the real truth... We are that BAD of an organization. This season the organization really showed it's ass to the world. So, time to fix itl, just like the Bengals did, and that has been a 3 year process...

The problem was that it took over a decade before they got it right

By hiring the right guy to run the ship, getting rid of the bad eggs (Corey Dillon in Cincy was a nightmare) and getting thier type of players. We can accellerate that by blowing it up now, because I believe we have the right combination of people running the show and getting thier guys.

All of the guys we are asking to restructure know they have a guarenteed contract, and a better chance of winning, waiting for them in KC. Penny and Mawae are Herm fanboys. They're not going to restructure.

Pennington is scum for not taking that paycut.... does he not see that the jets are the only team he can start for and all the other NFL teams would only have him on their team to back up.

The Jets can end Penningon's career as a starter by cutting him.... I think thats the way to go.

i agree, i think the original offer may have even been just to the point where the jets are letting him know that hes going to be taking a big pay cut. At least tann has come right off the plate and hit the ground running.

You just compared our (supposedly) starting quarterback to a queen bee. You may not know this, but you just officially ended his career. It's well known inside of football circles that if you're a football player, and someone compares you to a queen bee, it's time to hang 'em up.

I don't know why so many people assume that because Pennington doesn't take a paycut from $9 million to $1 million, he's playing hardball, or he's not going to take any paycut at all.

Taking a paycut like that would be insane. If he refuses to give any money back, I wouldn't be happy with him, and would probably want him to go, but it hasn't even come close to that yet.

Well if he is cut then the $12 million cap hit will vastly hinder our ability to rebuild

Take out a full-page ad in every major NFL city? Hell, that costs money. I'd put Abraham on eBay, it's free. I'd even construct the ad for the Jets:

    John Abraham, NY Jets

    Sale Starts: February 17, 2006

    Sale Ends: March 3, 2006

Starting Bid: 2nd Round NFL Draft Pick, 2006

Item Descrption: 27 1/2-year old DE. Relatively healthy except when slightly dinged up. Plays in approximately 70% of the games. Playoff appearances a possibility as long as not slightly dinged up and providing the appearance in same might negatively impact his career in the slightest. Some emotional baggage, but nothing a good hand-holding HC can't handle. Enjoys an occasional beer or 20. Police record, but no big thang. Passtimes include putting his foot in his mouth, particularly with the press, then feeling sorry for himself and running for the hand-holding HC. Will not report to training camp if Franchised. Excellent pass-rusher when he wants to be, expecially when threatened with Franchise Tag, otherwise experiences some lapses. Run-stuffing questionable but exhibits brief flashes. Currently makes over $8 million and is unhappy with same, would like to make $20 million but will settle for $18.

Payment Instructions: Accept Paypal and Paul Tagliabue's assurrance on the draft pick.

Shipping and Handling: We ain't paying for no stinkin' air fare. You pick this sucker up at Hofstra yourself.

That's only true if we actually win something. Nobody knows how this will affect the team or if we will be better for it. Getting rid of your veteran players can be a good thing, unless they could actually help the team.

This could pay off but it is very risky. I'm not saying it's the wrong move but I sure won't say it's definitely the right one either.
