Sorry, man. Watching the Jets is aggravating enough, discussing them can be worse. That's why I left here for a while, nothing personal.
You completely misunderstood my whole post. The playoffs works as follows: you must win your division to play a home game, otherwise you go on the road the whole time. New England, who has been a dynasty since Chad got the QB job, is in our division. Even with that we've made the playoffs three times with him and even managed to win the division and get a home game once, but it makes it much harder to do. So getting through the playoffs is a lot harder for the Jets than most other teams, regardless of who our QB is. Even if we had Peyton Manning, we still probably don't get past the Patriots most years with the team we have. That was my point. Regarding next year, it's a pivotal season for Mangini. One good year, two bad ones, that's not a good way to keep your job. Especially if you're the one who gambled it all on an unproven QB and you still have the Pats in your division. You should think long and carefully about getting rid of a guy who has won and can win for you.
I said earlier in this thread I think we should keep Chad, not as starter. Can win? 1 game? Against the Phins-impressive. I'm fairly certain Peyton Manning could handle himself pretty well in our division. He could have atleast beaten the Bills. Unlike Pennington. That would make us 6-10, and he probably would have beaten the Ravens/Redskinds, no? Enough of the cheapshots though, as long as you don't try to tell me how the playoffs work anymore. It's not impossible to get a home game after the wildcard round if your team has a great record but just so happens to be in a dynasty's division. Edit: You're right we probably wouldn't get past the Patriots with Manning. I was just in a hurry to note the close games we lost. With both QBs.
Perspective -- Get some... This morning WFAN had an interesting exercise: Who's this lummox? Year One Games: 12, started 11 Completions: 134; Attempts: 265 Completion Percentage: 50.6% 1,743 yds TDs: 13 Ints. 14 Rating: 66.0 Year Two Games: 13, started 13 Completions: 193; Attempts: 402 Completion Percentage: 48.0 2,321 yds TDs: 15 Ints.: 19 Rating: 58.9 Year Three Games: 10, started 10 Completions: 172; Attempts: 316 Completion Percentage: 54.4 2,031 yds TDs: 11 Ints.: 9 Rating 74.0 Year Seven Games: 16, started 16 Completions: 259; Attempts: 468 Completion Percentage: 55.3% 3,487 yds TDs: 21; Ints.: 11 Rating 74.6 Still, in Year Seven This Slow-Starting Lummox Won the Super Bowl, and was the SB MVP How good or bad is KC or CP? You'll never know without an OL that blocks for a 1500 yd. runner and keeps sacks under 25 per yr.
Highest rushing total in the league was LT with only 1430 yards or so. The era of 1500+ as the benchmark for truly great seasons may have passed us by with so many teams employing dos RBs.
10-6 and a playoff berth in a year they were predicted to fall on their face after breaking apart a lot of the existing starting roster and introducing new schemes on both sides of the ball and almost an entire new coaching staff would be something I would term 'competitive'. The things they did right last season did not last through year two, so it's half credit from me. I know what your grade is already.
You are right and that is why the current market is the perfect time to trade Chad. There are teams in need and Chad would be right there at the top or very close to it. We commit to Clemens to next year only. In other words we say "Kellen, you got the ball in '08, but everything is evaluated at the end of '08 in preparation for '09 - '09 is not a sure thing; you have to show us that you are the future." Meanwhile, we keep Tui, who is hardly mentioned and I think he is fully capable of being a #2 QB because he has played in NFL games before and would be under our system for a year already. We then either sign one of the lesser known FA's or draft a QB in the 4th or 5th. Why? If you get to your 3rd string QB, your season is over already - at that point start Brad Smith if it makes the fans feel better.
It might help us trade Chad and for the right price I think we should consider it. We have a lot of holes to fill and the more draft picks we can gather the better off we will be. A 2nd or 3rd rounder would be pretty great I think. I'm not sold on Tui, but if we give Clemens all of 08 to growup into a starter and he blows then we are worse off in the long run. At that point you are trying to draft someone and likely looking for a FA at the same time that can be a band-aid. To me I would rather find a way to keep Chad. It is a tough spot to be in as a team to be sure. Either choice can be a bit of suicide.
