Just to clarify (from Len P): In about another week or two, New York Jets quarterback Chad Pennington will have earned back all of the $6 million in base salary that he sacrificed when he readjusted his contract to stay with the team this spring. There is a perception by some that Pennington collects the entire $6 million in a lump sum when he reaches a certain playing time threshold. Actually, Pennington earns back the money in increments, based on playing time, and so far has pocketed $4.5 million to $5 million. He maxes out at the full $6 million when he participates in 60 percent of the offensive snaps for the season. Based on how many plays the New York offense has run, both this year and in the last few seasons, it appears he'll reach the 60 percent trigger point in a couple more outings.
