TB is the epitome of "peter's principle"... an incompetent. This team should be playing better then it is yet we have penalties with no accountability. Fire this bum....
try bates, the oc, or even mike westhoff. heck, even call tommy tight butt or the tuna for a tag team approach to bring the comatose patient back to life....
so, they will trade away teddy for peanuts, because heaven forbid we go into next year with more than one qb who can actually play. to say nothing of this year behind a swiss cheese o-line, with the giant hole at left tackle.
I understand being afraid to sit a starter, but really, you usually only need to do it once or twice and the message sinks in - short term pain; long term gain.
you know it is bad when the giants can flash backup running back, receiver, o lineman, and d lineman who out play your starters. victor cruz killed the jets in a regular season game, but it is not like that was a surprise after he flashed and killed them the same year in preseason.
I have no fear that Teddy will be traded this year. To go into a season with 2 QB's, one a rookie and the other being measured for a rocking chair is suicide. Besides, there has to be an extremely needy QB team to make a deal, and at the moment, I don't see one.
today's nfl radio network: raiders looking for veteran backup at qb. there are other teams looking for backup this year but starter next year. saints, chargers, denver?, lions, fins, jax, tb?, pats?, cincy? start teddy, keep sam upright until after the bye week.
I'm a big Darnold fan, and normally believe that a true FQB - which I think he has the potential to be - should start Day 1. BUT...with this OL, I think holding him back until we can improve that, either by adding some better players after the cuts, or simply improvement via practice and playing together, I think it's better in the long run to keep Sam safe. You're suggestion has merit IMO, as badly as I want the Sam Darnold Era to begin. I sure don't want it to begin and end in the same season.
I'm not concerned. This is football, hitting and getting hit is part of the game. there's no escaping it. Was anyone concerned about the quality of the OL in Indy when Manning was there? or in GB when Favre was there. Even in NE, yes, when Brady started out he played behind an excellent OL, but recently? The great QB's of the game were able to compensate for less than perfect OL's by altering their drops, moving in the pocket, quick deliveries, rolling out, etc, etc. Darnold has exhibited those qualities so far, so let's let him do his thing.
Yes, he's exhibited samples of these traits, but he's a green rookie and will need to come up to speed rapidly if he's going to avoid getting banged around behind what so far looks like a less than mediocre OL. I think holding him out a few games to give this OL more time to gel and to learn the zone blocking, and hopefully even see the addition of some better talent when final cuts are made, is prudent and won't stunt his growth. As I said, I'm beyond ready to launch the Sam Darnold Era, and won't be pissed off if they decide to start him Game 1, but I will be holding my breath every snap.
At least he’s not Hue Jackson? ... because judging by hard knocks even I can see he’s in so far over his head. How the hell did he get that job.
Bates? Why Bates? What has he shown as either a QB coach or an OC that you like? Where is his history of success; isn't that of some importance? Don't be fooled by that unattributed "best offensive mind in the building" nonsense; even if it's true, who is he being compared to?
Well, its only pre-season so, having drives killed by stupid penalties is no big thing. Same thing with PI's , roughing the passers and other offenses that keep the opponents' drive alive. Once the "real" season begins, I'm sure the defense will manage to find a way off the field on 3rd down before half the qtr is over. All those holdings and false starts will magically disappear and our offense will manage to get out of its own way. Why? Because no matter what happens in pre-season, the regular season cures all ills. Hell, I fully expect our ST's to become a top 5 unit once the real season begins mainly because the pre-season doesn't matter even if they did suck golf balls thru garden hoses.
Gawd, I used to hear the freaking word 'holding' in my sleep in the late '70s. It was unbelievable how many plays were negated because of it. But let's not discuss the past lest we invite history to repeat itself. Sometimes I feel like a lemming jumping off a cliff with this team, but lemmings gonna lemming and Jets gonna Jet.
Like bad pizza in the middle of the night. EDIT & P.S.: Most people past the age of 40 from any of the five boroughs knows what repeating means.
