A linebacker could NEVER jam a guy like Randy Moss at the line... NEVER Jamming a WR is one of the toughest things to do effectively in football, and Randy Moss is as good at getting off the line as anyone.... There is not a linebacker in the league now, or ever, that would be able to get an effective jam on Randy Moss..... And, if my some miracle, the linebacker did get a jam on him, once he got off it, he would be gone... And Brady always has enough time to let that develop.... And if,by some other miracle, that didn't work, they'd just put Moss back off the line... With a 2-yard headstart, the task would be even more impossible than before...
Yeah, it was like Art was making sure he brought his turd rep with him. As if the giant purple neon sign on their stadium wasn't obnoxious enough.
You'd think that if people complain about this week after week after week, it may just be that what they're saying is true!
So imagine this happening, not saying I HOPE it happens, just a 'what if' scenario. Say the Pat's are up big, as usual, the game clearly over in the 3rd quarter or so, and Brady is still in shooting for yet another record, and he happens to dive for a loose ball, ala Vinny, and SNAP there goes his achiles(?). Can you imagine the outrage of all the Pat's fans that are all OK with the way Belicheat is operating right now?
That is what really bothers me..... There has never been a team as dominant as NE, so therefore, most of these records that their players are breaking were set by players who were in competitive games... How great a feat is throwing 50 TD passes, if your team didn't need 15+ of them, and just let you throw it vs a demoralized defense for kicks? Peyton was winning games when he set his record, but they weren't blowing teams out, and thus just about every TD counted.... At this point, Brady throws about 2-3 meaningful TDs a game, before the game is put out of reach, and he ends up with 5..... Another example... Greater feat: Owens' 4 TD catches in a very competitive division game? Moss' 4 TD catches in a game that was a blowout by the end of the 1st quarter? Who do you think had to work harder for it? The guy facing the fired up defense still in the game, with the pressure of knowing that his catches could make or break the game? Or the guy facing the defense hanging their heads, who knows that even if he drops the ball, his team will likely win by 30+?
So in other words the individual achievements of this team are diminished by...how good this team is?
Getting up by 4 scores is a hell of an accomplishment.... Throwing a TD pass when you're up 4 scores is not
Coach, why did you go for it on 4th and one when the game was already over? BB the OG : "we were giving their team a chance to stop us." Suge Belicheck has spoken the truth. nuff said.
I think this is much more likely to happen to Clemens on the 16th. Mangini better pull him out of the game once the score gets out of control.
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2007/11/21/dressed_for_success/?page=2 Defensive stance In separate radio interviews yesterday, Brady and cornerback Randall Gay responded to criticisms that the Patriots are running up the score. Brady, in his weekly interview on WEEI, responded passionately when asked if the starters are staying in too long. "We're still trying to make improvements and we're trying to play extremely well," he said. "We're not trying to win 42-28, we're trying to kill people, we're trying to blow them out if we can. You want to build momentum for each week, you don't want to be up, 42-7 or 35-7, and all of a sudden you look up and it's 35-21. We don't want to be part of that, you don't want to go into next week realizing that for the last 18 minutes of the game your team didn't play well, or didn't play up to its capabilities. You gave other teams momentum for the next time they play you, or you gave another team a reason not to be intimidated." Gay, on ESPN Radio's "Game Night" program, said, "It kind of makes me mad when you hear somebody from the other team's defense going, 'They shouldn't have done that; that's disrespect.' Do we think it's disrespect when they went and picked up their checks for letting a team score 50 points on them? That should be disrespect; that you went to your owner and said, 'All right, pay me for that game I just played.' You can't look at it like that. You have to go out there and do your best. If somebody is blowing you out, you have to play harder. You have to stop them."
HAHA THATS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD He speaks the truth! One can learn alot from Suge Belicheck
Actually, I think that kicking the field goal is worse. If they go for it, they give the opposing team an opportunity to stop the Patriots and score no points. The NE offense is just so dynamic when the first team is out there that the only way they do not score is to kneel, and that is not what the NFL is about or would want to see. The other thing is that they are essentially running the run and shoot offense, so it is difficult for them to just use up clock by running. Plus with all their injuries at RB, it is better for them just to pass.
The Pats might play second and third stringers if the Bills conceded. But teams are not doing that against them either. It is a two way street. I need to shower after defending them twice now, but unfortunately they are not doing anything wrong. They are just the best offensive team EVER. So good in fact, that they may change some of the defensive rules like the contact rule back to counter what the Pats have become.
the whole patriots point spread thing is pissing me off. I'm 0-10 picking Patriots games. I picked the Colts, but switched at the last minute when I heard Harrison and Ugoh were out. The reason I'm getting all screwed up by this is because of the way the Patriots run up the score. Normally with huge spreads, I take the points, because even if the game isn't close, you have a solid chance of covering anyway with a late cover. If a Patriots game isn't close, they'll keep going all out for touchdowns in the 4th quarter.
If you put your hand in a fire and get burned, why keep putting your hand back in the fire? I just heard a rumor that some bookies aren't taking bets on Pats games anymore because they keep losing too much money.
I'm just being stubborn about it. Taking NE and giving the points every week was easy money, but I couldn't do it. I'm torn about Sunday Night as well. I just know if I pick NE and actually give huge points, they won't cover.
