I expected Belichicken to do this...He's very afraid of the Jets. His team's dynasty is crumbling and he needs to maintain the best players possible. With him losing another part of his cs to us, he's very nervous about Mangini making the Jets stronger. We'll get someone else. Tangini won't spend too much on a CB who could get the job done.
You think Belly would have franchised him if he thought as you posted that Samuels was "this overrated piece of sh!t"?
The tagged him because that gives them the most options. They can keep him for below value for a year, they can trade him for picks and or players or they get the breathing room they need to work out a long term deal. They can easily afford to keep him at the tag price with the new cap. This is just smart business.
What does that mean? The Bengals franchised Justin Smith and he's just an okay DE. The Pats have enough cap room, Samuel was very productive for them last season so why would they just let him leave? He's an overrated piece of sh!t because he won't get you 10 interceptions as a Jet CB, nor will he shut any WR down. If you offer him 6 million signing bonus then i'd love to have him to be our no.2 CB right behind Dyson but he's asking for 15-20 million and that's just ridiculous. I'm glad the Pats tagged him because that way we don't have a chance to overpay this overrated corner.
So your position is Mangini would over rate Samuels and over pay him because of it. Pretty low opinion of our HC and GM?
Who said Mangini wanted him? He never said that. It was just pure speculation because he was their defensive coordinator last season. Mangini knows exactly what kind of a CB he is and he saw him last year, when Samuel was fighting for his starting job with future HOF CBs like Ellis Hobbs and Randall Gay. Besides, we overrated Kevan Barlow as well.
It would appear from ur post just like U accused Winny of doing with Man U R really under estimating Belly Have a look at this This is why we are what we are since Woody took over In 2000 we took Saun Ellis, John Abe, CP & Tony Becht all in the 1st round So now lets C how those picks helped us to the SB. 2000 Abe Gone Becht " Ellis Medicore at best CP Also Medicore 2001 Santana M Gone 2002 B Thomas Certainly not a game changer so average at best 2003 DEW Same as B. Thomas right above him 2004 JV Same as DEW & B. Thomas right above him 2005 None Thank Dave Jolley & he to is gone 2006 Mangold Finally a Keeper Brick So far just average at best Just look at that 7 years of drafts totaling 10 1st round draft choices & only 1 good one in the bunch. This says a awful lot of the NYJs R & D/scouting department & why we still many moons from being a TRUE SB contender. Unless we take quantum leaps in the scouting dept we will just be on the same merry go round year after year that we have been on since 01/13/69 This may give you something to think about when it comes to scouting & R & D
John Abraham was a Pro Bowler. Just because he's gone it doesn't mean he sucked. He was a very good DE for us. Frankly, he was our only D# weapon all those years until we drafted Vilma. Besides, we received a 1st round pick for him. Shaun Ellis was a pretty good DE until 06. Pennington is not Brady but he's a lot better than most of the 1st round picks from 01-07 (Carr, Boller, Losman, Grossman and company). Santana was a good receiver and return man. Bryan Thomas disappointed when we drafted him but today he's one of our best defensive players. D-Rob was one of our D#MVPs last season who played a lot of positions for us in a crappy D-Line next to Oelhoffen and Ellis. Vilma was a defensive rookie of the year/pro bowler, he was a terrific pick. Mangold looks like a stud and D'Brick will be our franhise LT. You're making all of our picks look bad, that's easy but not reality. What about our late round gems? Like Kerry Rhodes? Leon Washington? Erik Coleman?
Sorry guy they say U are what U are & we are what we are due to what I posted no matter how you choose to cut it or say it. Maybe it is time to take off those green colored glasses that you have on.
69 is back to his old incoherent modus operendi again. What the hell is R&D? This isn't IBM. Or Microsoft. In case you hadn't noticed, the first year of the Tangini era the Jets draft was rated as the third best of 2006. If you think that any rookie LT is going to be a pro bowler in his first year, you know less about football than my shoe. Make that my left shoe, since I'm right handed, and it smells more.
JUst pointing out #1 draft choices. The FACTS are the facts or you what you are & what I posted is why we are on a revolving door going nowhere
The facts are the facts are the facts :drunk:  Ellis " Dats Da Fact Jack " - Dan Ackroid / Stripes
with the cap room that the Pats have, putting the franchise tag on AS was a no brainer. Nate Clements price probably went up, but will Buffalo franchise him? I havent read anything aboutwhat they will do there. They have a lot of cap room
nope, they wont. they tagged him last year and told him they wont do it again. so they very well COULD tag him but they wont
Yes...just not to the Jets. My feeling is that if the Pats didnt think that Asante would have left to become a Jet, then they wouldnt have done it. The Pats would never willingly give a player of Samuel's talent to the Jets
I knew they wouldn't let him come to NY and be reunited with Mangini. I didn't follow him that closely, but he looked pretty good in that playoff game against us.
This is really bad news. Even before his big postseason, I was telling my Jets friends, "we gotta steal Samuel from the Pats. He's young and will only get better" Unfortunatly, Bill "the secretary shagger" Bellichick beat us to the punch... I'm actually tempted to part ways with our first round pick for him...anyone else think it would be worth it?
First round picks in Pioli and Belichik's hands are very dangerous weapons. No way I give them 3 in this draft. They'd just trade a mid-20 for something that would turn into top 10 next season.
Well let's also give credit where credit's due. Our starting safeties were 4th and 5th round picks respectively. Our two most productive running backs and as of now the two guys who will be carrying the load next year were 4th and 6th round picks. Our starting wide receivers we drafted in the 3rd and 4th round. So while our 1st rounder picks may not be up to your standards the organization has done a great job finding talent in later rounds. As for the topic, I would've loved Samuel. The link between pass rush and secondary coverage goes both ways and a shut down corner would make the entire defense better. However there's no use in wondering what would've been and cornerback maybe now moves up on the priority list for the draft. I would however rather go after a free agent as it seems cornerbacks take awhile to develop in the NFL and even then it's a crapshoot as to whether someone with all the talent in the world will blossom into a starter or be a dimeback/kick returner.
