Reports in Vinny Testaverde is outside his Long Island home tossing footballs in the yard anticipating BBs phone call.
The reason for that would be so that they held onto the rights to him once free agency began, so they actually had the opportunity to trade him rather than just let him go as a free agent.
To get something for him and not let him walk for free I guess, which also included keeping him from the Jets.
Ah I see! So they would have the power to decide where he goes and able to ask their price. Got it, thank you!
Wow this is surprising, Matt Schaub went for 2 second rounders, adn Matt Cassel goes for 1 second rounder.
guess no 3rd team now. Chiefs | Cassel and Vrabel acquired for second-round pick Sat, 28 Feb 2009 11:14:12 -0800 The Kansas City Chiefs have announced they have traded a second-round pick (No. 34 overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft to the New England Patriots for QB Matt Cassel and LB Mike Vrabel. The deal is contingent on both players passing a physical and reporting. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chiefs | Cassel on board Sat, 28 Feb 2009 10:58:47 -0800 Continuing what seems like a never-ending storyline, Adam Schefter, of NFL.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have now acquired QB Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots. Terms of the deal are not yet available. Mike Reiss, of The Boston Globe, reports LB Mike Vrabel, who was previously traded, is part of the trade agreement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because they get something in turn for him, Draft Pick, and don't owe him anything...no bonuses. Franchised players can be cut/traded with-out penalty.
I like it. They've freed up Cassel's cap space early on, and are now free to use that on re-signing some of their core guys and at the same time stock-pile some depth. And on top of that, they have basically another first round pick. Depending on how they use the draft and free agency, I think their defense could be on the verge of something special. Edit: And I also just realized how funny it is that he's going to the team that started this whole chain of events. Came in week 1 after Brady's injury to beat KC, now he's going there.
KC's pick (#34) along with Pats #23 and their other 2 second round picks give them flexibility to move up and down the first round at will to grab their player of choice.... Four first day picks to fill holes or trade for a big name FA...... BB is pure genius......
Freaking NE You know when I saw that Cassell was hit with the TAG I was reall hopping that no team would grab him. I mean if you think about it, they would have 2 of the top 5 highest paid QB's with only one being able to play at any give time. This would have forced them to release another 2-3 players to get under that cap this year.....But the KC goes and bailes them out, NE knew what they were doing all along, too bad no other GM had the balls to stand Pat (no pun intended) and let this group of chowderheads live with their move, nope just bail them out for an unproven QB...great play KC....thaks!
