I don't think anyone is ever going to understand this.

probably not no. they create the push on the OL and occupy the blockers so the OLB's can zip around the edge and get a 1-on-1 battle they can consistently win to get pressure on a QB.

That helps him sure. But there is a difference between lifting and doing DL drills (they all help) but there is no substitute for lining up across from an NFL OL, particularly a Dbrick or Mangold, and trying to win that 1 on 1 matchup.

Those guys will kick his ass over and over again until he gets the speed down. Then he has to improve his work at the POA and so on and so forth. Until he starts getting reps against quality OL, Wilk isn't getting a crash course in the speed of the NFL. He is just getting his body in NFL shape. Which is very important. But he can't apply his in shape body until he gets up to speed.

Well... that's not entirely true. They don't have players who's first assignment is pass rushing but it doesn0t hurt if they bring pressure on the QB!

    S. Ellis led the Jets last year with 46 QB pressures while no other LB or DL had more than 25... although I agree this year we'll be able to bring more pressure from other positions because of the new faces on the DL it wouldn't hurt to have some QB pressures coming from the guys up front.

My guess is that this year you will see more roatation along the defensive line if everyone can stay healthy coming out of camp. We should have great depth with the addition of the new rookies in Wilk and Ellis along with the guys that were here last year.
I know it's a long shot but I am hearing talk that Tone will be gone for sure and that Cro will not be brought back, which should allow for a large F/A signing. I am also hearing this morning, that the Jets may be a dark horse in the whole Nadi bidding.

If by some chance we could get this done, Revis on one side and Nadi on the other, well, hands down we could have the best defense in the NFL. Add to that Rex's X's & O's and it could be very scary to be an opposing QB playing the NYJets

Agreed. Ellis was drafted to be that big body in the middle that eats up blockers.

Hopefully Ellis is that line clogging NT that Jenkins was when he was healthy...I still remember big Jenks vs Tenn busting through the line and slamming CJ down..when healthy Jenks was a beast.

OLB's in a 3-4 scheme are the athletes who's job is to pressure the QB like never before, but 3-4 DE's have never been expected to put up big time sack numbers.

Shaun Ellis put up 43.5 sacks as a 4-3 DE from 2000-2005, that's an average of 7.25 sacks per season (which is really good). As a 3-4 DE, he's put up 29 sacks during the regular season from 2006-2010, that's an average of 5.8 sacks per season which is unheard of this day and age. I'm pretty sure 29 sacks over the past 5 years leads all 3-4 defense ends by a large margin.

The question should be which OLB's are gonna put up the sack numbers this year, because thats our main concern. OLB's.

I too think Wilkerson will be a good player for us. The last time we got a defensive guy from Temple it worked out great for us,
