Very interesting. The Cowboys don't have a 1st round pick, so I wonder what the parameters of the trade would be like. Their 1st round pick that went to the Raiders was #27 so even their 2nd round pick wouldn't be that good. The obvious part would seem to be the Jets pick at #3 for Lawrence, but what else? Do you see the Jets getting something back in addition to Lawrence, or do you see the Jets having to give something else to the Cowboys?
So what do you see such a trade being like? Would it be Lee and the Jets #3 for Lawrence and what, the Cowboys' 2nd round pick? If so, it's at the bottom of the 2nd round and probably the two best Cs and the best WRs are gone by that point.
Why on earth would the Jets give the 3 to Dallas for Lawrence when they can just pick Allen or Bosa and not have to pay them a gazillion dollars? Yea, I know theres no guarantee Bosa or Allen are as good as Lawrence but ill take that chance
Yup. And Lawrence wasn't really all that good in Dallas until there was a contract on the line. I'm not all that interested in seeing him return to his disappearing ways in green and white after he gets a monster payday when they can possibly get the best pass rusher in a draft full of pass rushers that are better than Lawrence was coming out.
I forgot about Dallas not having their 1st cause of Amari Cooper. A deal incl both lawrence, lee & #3rd overall is likely far fetched I could see Lawrence for Lee & one of the Jets 3rd rounders.. OR Lawrence ,Dallas 2nd & 4th rounder for #3.(I wouldnt do this second deal)
Lawrence for Lee and a 3rd rounder? That sounds pretty cheap for one of the best edge rushers in the game. Why wouldn't you do the 2nd deal? Lawrence, Dallas' 2nd and 4th rounder for #3 sounds fair and pretty reasonable to me. Is it because Lawrence is more of a 4-3 DE and may have problems playing standing up in space? Is it because he's 26 and Allen and Bosa are only 21?
Excellent question for which I dont have good answers. Over my head. Probably not reasonable. Best I come up with is their first next year, a second and third this year, they get Lee and one other player, we get Lawrence and an OL. May be value wise I'm way off NC, you are far more up to speed on this stuff.
What makes you think I'm far more up to speed on this stuff? Thanks for the compliment, but I wouldn't even know where to begin with this. I'm not sure what kind of tag the Cowpokes used on Lawrence, but think that with one type of tag unless some other kind of deal is agreed upon, the price is two #1 picks. They surely wouldn't get that, but after that, I'm lost. LOL
The first scenario does seem light but im also considering what Dee Ford yielded knowing full well Lawrence is a far superior talent. Scenario 2 is definitely fair & reasonable im just not keen on giving up #3 w.o volume of picks with or without Lawrence..Team needs an infux of youth. Plus selfishly id like to be able to watch night 1 of the draft w. Something at stake beyond who will be available in Round 2
Remember you have to pay him, and he will cost $20mill+ yearly. So the Jets will not give up more than a 3rd. If you look at A Brown, and he is an Elite WR, to the Raiders deal. Raiders gave a 3rd and 5th rd pick. Then they had to add $$ to Browns contract. This trade does not make much sense for the Jets unless it's for a 3rd pick and that's all.
Lee and a third rounder is of greater value than what SF gave up for Ford. SF gave up next years 2 which is equivalent of a 3 year this year. The Jets 3 is a very high 3 but it is likely a fair deal if you value Lawrence above Ford. A high 3 sounds very fair especially considering the jets may have to pay Lawrence 20 mill per year. A Lawrence trade would make a trade down much easier and would give us an oppurtunity to fill a lot more holes. Let's get it done.
Lawrence on a monster deal scares the crap out of me... we're in prime position to pick a premium pass rusher & get him on a sweetheart deal for up to 5 years. I get that we've got a bunch of holes to fill but I don't want to be reckless about it and go throwing $ at every FA to fill all our needs...we need to develop some talent at home. Yes, we all know Mac doesn't have the greatest resume with draft picks but we can't be afraid to let him try & correct that since we've committed to the guy for at least the next season...I'd rather we draft Allen or Bosa & roll with what we've got going into this season. We'd have Bosa or Allen , along with Sam & Jamal on cheap deals for the next few seasons... let's put some $ aside to make a run at a top notch WR in FA next season and develop the rest of the roster. Seems like we've finally got a decent coaching staff who can, hopefully, develop some of these 2nd tier guys into good contributors for us... I'd feel much more comfortable going that route.
Anyone see Ed Oliver? Freak combine, ran the shuttle faster then Barkley last year, ran a 4.71, put up 32 reps like Suh...man I'm intrigued!
Folks on here have compared him to Vernon Gholston...have no idea why.Unlike Quinnon he has multiple years of great production w. little help round him & being a constant focal point of blocking schemes. The combine performance only confirmed what his tape shows which is an elite disruptive force in any scheme. The dude has been doing DB drills since he first stepped foot on Houston's campus. I'd say Quinnon has more upside as a play maker but Oliver is more versatile & extremely disruptive. While he can shed blocks very well he also is not completely dependent on it like Mr. Williams. He has good gap integrity, very good anchor & can still ride Guard's outside shoulder to collapse the pocket if he's unable to disengage. That said...I'm happy w. Leo/Anderson/Mclendon w. hopes that Sheppard & Fatukasi make strides forward. Edge is a much bigger need.
Giving up the 3 pick alone for Lawrence is just crazy talk, then to hand out a huge contract too? No thanks. Best I’d do is the same deal the 49ers gave up for Ford.
I agree with your post in principle, and you have a point about developing our own "cheap" talent for 5 years. The thing is, however, it's more important to draft and develop a WR who can grow along with Sam and the two be here for most or all of their careers together, than it is to draft a pass rusher. Just as topnotch pass rushers aren't available in FA very often, neither are topnotch WRs unless they're divas, headcases, or have off-field issues. It is better to draft a pass rusher, and for that matter, to draft every position. In an ideal world, FA wouldn't even be a need, but as we know, the world isn't ideal, especially the Jets' world.
Agreed. If there was something in the works, I'd think its contingent on the Jets trading back and getting some additional picks. It's definitely not happening for 3, lol. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
hes the only interior defender I would take, but I would still rather have Allen or Bosa. I think he's better then Williams
