Hands down the best two weeks of football in my entire life. Not that there's any way to tell, but I still have two pieces of confetti saved, one from the Packers game and one from the Colts. I was a sophomore in high school and my father got 4 tickets last minute from a doctor-friend who couldn't go. Just the energy of that building and even the P-A-T-S chants were so insane. I can still remember as Wayne ran into the endzone with the ball outstretched I turned to my brother and said "see you next week?". The next morning we both woke up at 4 am and went to a Scotty's to get in line for ticketmaster. Thank God for christmas money because my seats for the Colts game were the best football seats I'll ever have.
The most fun I've ever had at the sports bar...... Things were looking bleak for awhile as Cleveland and MIA were winning. There was a strong JETS contingient at the bar I used to go to, and that being the late game had heavy interest. They put the PATS-MIA game on every TV aside from one small one for the JETS. Due to the behavior of a few D-bag Dolphans, the whole bar started cheering for the PATS..... it was priceless. The place went crazy... Once that happenned you KNEW it was destiny. Extra rewarding considering how the season started. Early in the season my Uncle (25+year season ticket holder) and Brother flew down for the JAGS game (Pennington's 1st real appearance) We yelled, cheered and raised hell despite the JETS getting smoked. He gave me his JETS "hard hat" to keep in the "FL Chapter" before he left...... well a few weeks later he was diagnosed with cancer, so I brought the Helmet to the bar for the PACK game as a good luck charm. Some guys knew the story and rubbed the Helmet for good luck...... A bunch of guys rubbing my helmet.... at least I asked the cute waitress to rub my helmet in public.
Definitely one of the most memorable games I've been to (second only to the monday night miracle)...and maybe the only game where I got into the stadium after kickoff! We were huddled around some guy's TV in the parking lot, and went nuts when the kick was made. After that, on the way inside, I remember feeling the most confidence I have ever had in the Jets...and they did not disappoint! Not a moment of worry all game!
I was on vaca in Fla. Watched it there. In the car driving afterwards listening to Howard David take angry Dolphin fan calls was gold. David was one year removed from being our announcer at the time. Went to Shula's in the Dolphin hotel up in Disney that night. Everyone was really down there....cept me.
Haha, that's great. Howard David called the Miami-Pittsburgh game Sunday for Westwood One, I had it on in my garage.
