What's interesting is Pace's reaction to the ball. He knows he's about to land a real ass-whooping on the QB but still has the presence of mind to see the ball coming out. So while he's planting the hit, he's already turning to his left to see if he can recover the football. That is just excellent, heads-up defense. Real Rex Ryan football. Raise hell and go for the ball. Unbelievable game.
The only way that could have been a more perfect hit is if it were Brady getting it. I'd even settle for Lord of the Doofuses the Elder, Gayton Manning.
I love how Eli is getting off without blame, he's the idiot who changed the play and didn't tell Jacobs. I'm glad it wasn't a serious injury but man he got blown the fuck up. Jacobs can talk all the shit he wants but the bottom line is we KO'd his QB. It was a great clean hit. That is the way our d should be reacting to a busted play. Eli actually took the blame for the play in his statement. I am happy to hear Eli is not hurt worse than the stiches.

Got ya... it was an amazing play and Tirico and Co were very quick to point out that it was a clean hit and the Jets weren't intentionally trying to hurt Eli.
It almost looks like Pace held up at the very end of the hit. If you look real closely at Pace's left hand, you will see that he had it around Eli's middle right after the hit to sort of hole him up from the whiplash. Then he lets go as he realizes he needs to spin around to his right to go get the ball that popped out. This is just totally awesome defense all the way around. Take advantage of a broken play and make it their worst nightmare. If this is a sample of what our D is like this year, it's going to be an awesome year... just awesome.
.Gif credit wars aside, someone on ESPN radio made an interesting point this afternoon (<---see this would be credit where it's due:up I hope Rex didn't get caught mic'd up goin "THAT'S NEW YORK JET FOOTBALL!!" or something equally overzealous. It was a clean hit, it wasn't our fault, and everyone knows it, but that would really not look so hot. They'll be able to edit any way they want, and I trust them to handle it tastefully, unless someone said something REALLY stupid in the heat of the moment... We'll find out tomorrow.
Still not as ugly as Peyton. Freaking dude looks like he swallowed a loaf of french bread whole and it got stuck halfway down and stretched him out. We'd be calling him the ostrich if he wasn't Peyton Manning.
I don't think Rex cares too much about that. I think any coach in the league would have been pumped about that hit were it his team.
