I cannot agree with this part. Defenses said they had to dedicate days to preparing for that offense and he has averaged 5.7 ypc in it. He's a threat with the ball in his hands and he has a chance to hurt teams when he's healthy. I agree he isn't worth the money some people are saying he should see, though. I doubt he gets any more than Josh Cribbs was offered.
Going forward is he? The wildcat did slow down after the bye week (don't have the numbers but I don't recall him breaking as many runs out of that formation after the bye as he did before)...maybe it was figured out? If Sanchez can be a 60% completion and 2-1 TD to INT ratio QB I trust that we can do without the Smith package.
I agree that it wouldn't be worth that much money to tag him. Tamba Hali is another free agent OLB worthy of a big contract. Like Woodley though, I can't see his team letting him go.
Smith is an athlete that can hurt defenses. It may be a gimmick/gadget package but it's something other teams have to respect. The offense can survive losing him as Sanchez matures and I said that he wasn't worth the big bucks some others were saying, but saying that his role on the offense is completely useless is a stretch. Smith can help this team. He's not crucial to the offense's success but he's not useless either.
I feel BE and SH are 1 and 2. Harris is a good inside run stopper but amazingly slow in persuit. Just look at that interception against Brady. We should lose Cro and Pool. They truly suck. Digs has no lateral movement and can only hit hard. Ellis is too old now and had one great game last week but that was prolly his last gasp anyway. Coleman is a joke when it comes to cover skills. He was chasen people again tonight but always about 2 yards behind.
Build round your qb! Holmes and Edwards are key to our future. We simply cannot tie up $20 million in scott and harris at what is basically a run stuffing position. Someone like Mauga or a drafted ilb should be able to play at the side of Scott. We desperately need olb pass rush , if we can somehow off load Thomas and I wouldn't be surprised if Pace is traded or restructured.
We payed too much for Bart Scott to begin with. Too much to bring in a Ted LB who is supposed to take on blockers instead of make plays. I like having him on the team but not for his price tag. I agree we need to build weapons around Sanchez but we're also looking at a pretty deep WR class this year as well.
We still need Cro to compete with the Colts / Patriots, etc. Even if Wilson proves himself we need 3 solid CBs and Lowery ain't gonna cut it. Also, Lowery may get a better chance to prove himself at safety.
You are missing the point. The new rule kept us out of the Peppers chase, While he did sign a long term deal with the Bears, he may have chosen to sign with one of the teams that made the final four last year (the Bears did not get s close to the SB as we did). The Jets Colts Saints or Vikings might have ended up with Peppers but we will never know because of that rule.
Shaun Ellis Steve Weatherford Brodney Pool Tony Richardson Braylon Edwards Wayne Hunter Trevor Pryce David Harris Robert Turner Nick Folk Antonio Cromartie Lance Laury Santonio Holmes Eric Smith Brad Smith James Ihedigbo Drew Coleman Kellen Clemens Marquice Cole Michael Turkovich Marcus Dixon good bye damein woody jason taylor ladanian tomlinson vernon gholston
Sign Bray, Harris, Cro, Turner, Ihedigbo, Hunter, Brad and Eric, Look at keeping Ellis (he should retire a Jet he deserves that)tender Holmes and see what floats get the pick some one should want him. Assuming we are running under last years rules Holmes should cash in big time with that money go after a pass-rusher or a Dtackle. Look at upgrading safety and Dline with draft. Our receivers should be fine minus Holmes. He is a weapon yes but what good is he if you are not calling plays to his strength. I think the receiving core can overcome his loss and Smith is ready to be a number 3 receiving weapon. This way our special teams are still strong and how much money can you place into one position? I would love 3/4s of that list to come back The ones by name we should keep. watch Al Davis or Seattle go after Holmes get the picks
I have been preaching this since mid season and nearly had my head taken off. We need to keep Braylon and Santonio even if it means losing both Harris and Cromartie. Our future lies in Sanchez. if he is going to maximize his potential, he needs to have elite playmakers on offense. Keeping his receiving core together will only help him reach his maximum potential faster. Next year, if he plays consistently like he did today, I can't fathom the number of games we will win. The trio that we have is going to help Mark become the best QB he can, and that right there signifies how badly we need to keep them together. Harris is clearly the #3 guy of the 4, followed by Cromartie. I mean obviously i would rather we find a way to bring in Scrabble this offseason, but there is no way unless both he and Revis take a pay cut to play together...
Brad Smiths #s went down because all he did do was rush the whole time, and eventually Ds were stacking the box. If he'd thrown a few times, I believe our wildcat (version) would have been far more effective. Too predictable.
they need to get young and more athletic on the line. You can't count on Jenkins lasting a full season. They need a legit pass rusher. Ellis had a nice season but he is getting older and it is time for them to go a different direction on the line.
I have no problem with Bart Scott's salary. It'd be awesome if he restructured, but I just can't see it happening. Scott was brought in to change the mindset of this defense. He did that. In my opinion, that makes him worth the cash. WR is a tough position to pick up in the NFL - it usually takes three years for guys to completely get going. If we can retain Holmes and Edwards, we can use those draft picks elsewhere...like our defense's front seven. The wideout class isn't as deep as it could've been: Mike Floyd, Ryan Broyles, and Justin Blackmon stayed in school. If I had to make a top five right now it'd look like this: 1. UGA's AJ Green 2. Bama's Julio Jones 3. Maryland's Torrey Smith 4. Pitt's Jonathan Baldwin 5. Kentucky's Randall Cobb After the top four guys, the class completely falls off. Mark Sanchez has chemistry with Holmes and Edwards. Both of them already know the offense too.
Bring back Braylon, Holmes, and Harris. Then do what you can with whatever money you have left. I would like to keep Cro to but thats probably going to be tough to do. If they can resign the other 3 and bring back some smaller role players who have done a good job for us on smaller less expensive deals then that wouldnt be bad at all.
