How many of these guys are key players though ? 2 ? 3 ? Obviously id love to resign a bunch of them, but i wont be crying if we lost 95% of those guys. I mean you gotta keep some of the safeties, but 1 or 2 are expendable. Outside of that the only NEED is Harris + a WR.
sign both braylon and santonio...and def david harris...as far as our starters go, i could give two fucks about cromartie...dude cant play press coverage and is an awful tackler... green bay today will shields apparently should call him darrelle revis jr except he was never drafted!!!! and james starks (who i know because i went to the same college, he roomed across the hall from me) was undrafted as well!!!! why the fuck does that never happen to the jets?!!??! other than the free agents above with maybe the exception of brad smith, draft a god damn pass rushers DE/DT and break the bank for asoghma!!!
Please tell me who else you would like to go out and get that is better than Folk? Folk isn't as bad as people make him out to be.
Shaun Ellis Steve Weatherford Brodney Pool Braylon Edwards 4 Wayne Hunter David Harris 1 Antonio Cromartie 2 Santonio Holmes 3 Eric Smith Brad Smith James Ihedigbo Drew Coleman These are the guys we should try to keep imo. I know that's a lot.. Also what's with the Weatherford hate? Guy's a beast. Anyway I numbered the order of the guys we have GOT to keep imo. New Core 4 I guess imo..and the guys I didn't number..I still really want to keep them but I won't cry if we don't keep them.
Keeping 2 players on this list would be about 10%. The Jets can afford for the other 19 to leave? OK.... who stays between Edwards, Holmes, and Harris? Math isn't one of your strong points I can tell.
IMO Harris, Edwards, and/or Holmes are the most important (obviously), then Cromartie, Ellis, and Weatherford. And after that, Brad Smith, E. Smith, Hunter, and Turner; Richardson has been great but I think this is it for him. The rest, I don't care one way or the other, except Folk and Pool - their omission from the 2011 roster would be a plus.
Folk's FG attempts are horribly inconsistent and he looks like he's out of shape. Oh and his kickoff are absolute shit. I'm not saying he couldn't surprise people if he got another shot, but how can you honestly defend the guy?
His kickoffs suck, I agree. As far as field goal kicking which is my main concern with our PK. I wanna know who is out there that we can bring in and could 100% undoubtedly out perform Folk. There isn't a guy out there that can do this. Bring in some undrafted kickers this summer for some competition, if the coaches like what they see and we find our kicker for the future then awesome but I don't think there is a proven kicker out there on the market that we can get. Admittedly I have no clue who is becoming a FA this year so maybe there is one we can sign but if there isn't like I said I have no problem with Folk coming out and kicking field goals for this team.
Theres a very realistic chance we keep Harris + 1 wr and lose Cromartie + 1 wr anyway. And yes I honestly think we could replace most of those other guys on FA. Obviously I think wed NEED to keep at least one of the safeties too (cant really lose 3 safeties). Are most of those other guys on there solid depth ? absolutely. Would it hurt losing some of them, a little. But I also think the majority of those guys are replacable. Kickers are always available every year and Folk has been slightly above mediocre, Weatherford was pretty fail in the playoffs. Its not like we have Mangold,Scott, Green, DaBrick,Sanchez all as UFA. Were talking 2nd/3rd stringers and rotational players mostly. Should we lose most of these guys no, but we can live without some
Not everyone on that list is a key player. There are several PS/TC guys who are going to get future contracts. Not all of the key contributors are going to be back but that's how most seasons go anyway and anyone who thought we were going in to our next season with the same starters was being delusional.
True but we are going to lose players not on that list. LT, Jason Taylor, Tony Richardson, and other players may retire or get cut to make room for the guys on the list that we will keep. Are we still limited in our right to sign free agents before we lose any of our own? If that rule didn't keep us from getting Julius Peppers last year we might be playing two weeks from now.
That didnt keep us from getting Peppers. The fact that wed have no freaking way possible of keeping him after this season is why we dont have him. Why would an UFA sign with a team with whom he has no future
Richardson was done after this season. We have John Conner. Jason Taylor was only going to be here for one year and we needed to draft an OLB anyway. No real loss there. Tomlinson said he still wants to be here, we'll see what happens. Shonn Greene has improved as a pass catcher and as a blocker, and we still have an offseason to groom Joe McKnight. He showed promise in the Buffalo game and I honestly feel that the sky is the only limit for him. As for the CBA/FA restrictions: There is no CBA after this year so we have no idea what we are going to be able to do in FA. Even if those restrictions return, there's no limit on the Jets resigning players already on the active roster and if we lose Cromartie or Holmes we're going to have a lot more room for bigger FAs than we did after last season.
Or he could sign a huge deal and get a ton of money from another superbowl contender. Like he did with the Bears. You cant expect the guy to turn down a 92 million dollar contract to sign up for a one year deal with a team. The guys who do that are old and already rich (ala LT) and cant even get big contracts
I said this in another thread and I'm sure it will piss a lot of fans off, but a duo of Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards is more important than David Harris.
well....I know you can't judge off a single play but he was beaten on the last important play... and without those 2 WR our offense is NOTHING.. so +1.
This has nothing to do with David Harris getting beat on that last play. A lot of posters got upset when I called him a two down linebacker last off-season. It's the truth. He's a downhill, run stopper that struggles in coverage. 98% of the league's 3-4 inside backers struggle in coverage. I'm not trying to knock Harris by calling him that, it's just what he is. Mark Sanchez is THE franchise. Keeping Holmes and Edwards will only make him get better and better. In my opinion, 3-4 inside linebacker isn't as important as wide receiver...especially when we already have a lot of money being spent on Bart Scott.
