It's always amazing to me with the problems the Jets have how Woody seems to get all the heat, not the players not doing their jobs, not the coaches not doing their jobs, not the GM assembling a High School roster of talent, no, the owner, the guy who signs the checks and does little else towards the product on the field.
We're an average team under Woody, but a piss poor team under the rest. It's still miles better than what the franchise was use to. I don't really understand the hate for Woody. Everything people blame him for is usually GM stuff aside from the ticket price increases. Nobody becomes a multi millionaire by being an idiot. At least we became a serviceable team under him, whereas prior 4-5 wins was pretty much the average... but then again the owner isn't the one who builds or coaches the team so I'm not sure how much you can blame or praise the guy for our success. People are just butt hurt over bringing in Tebow even though there's not a shred of evidence to suggest that was his idea.
so do we count him since '73 or '77? either way it makes the team under him look much worse when you add it up. There's just no contest btw the results under Leon and the results under Woody. Having attended the last 81 home games of the Leon hess era I can't believe anyone would want him as an owner. By all accounts Leon was a great man but he was a terrible owner.
You are right, its the players/GM/coach's fault, not Woody... A GM that Woody hired, and refuses to hold accountable. A coach that Woody hired, and loves. Players that Woody lobbied to acquire.
So you are privy to their private conversations? What proof do you have that Woody isn't up Tanny's ass right now? What proof do you have that suggests Woody doesn't hold Mike T accountable or care about wins? He won't even comment on the guy's job security. Let's be realistic here. Just because they don't air the dirty laundry, does not mean the laundry doesn't exist. Who happens to be one of the best coaches the franchise has ever had... Proof?
this is good stuff... so we are working on what is the majority... THEN our big argument is that well woody may suck but he doesnt suck as bad as the other guys who have sucked before him. ok gotcha. listen this asshole took tickets that were in the mezz 2 rows in and made them go from 75 in the early 2000s to 7500 psl and 400 a game. thats not 21st century marketing thats fleecing the fans for all that he can. then he went and got brett favre which was nothing but a circus show. then plaxico and santonio, minor circus but circus none the less. then tebow. the favre and tebow moves were nothing more than back page material. that was their only purpose. it would be one thing if he had just for the first time did it with tebow but this is a pattern at this point. the bravado the were going to the superbowl the hard knocks are all just more blah blah bullshit that he loves and enjoys because it has everyone talking about the jets. and he like a fucking 8 year old doesnt care what kind of attention he gets, just so long as he is getting attention. all while fleecign and fucking his long time fans.the bullshit he put season ticket holders through is unacceptable. the lies the bullshit the bait and switch followed by more lies deceit and bullshit is why there are no season tickets sold outside of the 4 center field sections above the 16th row. and why the psls are still selling like a big piece of shit. i know i am all over the place with this post but woody makes my fucking blood boil.
I feel like with Junc, whatever the status quo is with the Jets - he'll claim its the best they've had at the time / makes excuses if it doesn't seem that way. -A young Junc would've argued that Hess is a great owner because ___________ -A slightly younger Junc would argue that Michaels/Walton/Coslet/Carroll/Kotite.. etc is the best option and deserve another year because______ -Current Junc loves Woody/Tannenbaum/RR/Sanchez.. because _________ -If someone buys the team from Woody he will be great though because_____ -The next GM/Coach/QB will be great too in Junc's world. It's more than being an optimist, it's like a whole new level because it doesn't matter what the status quo is, it will always be the best.
1. Tanny was hired as the money man, Mangini built the teams, Rex dropped the ball by not involving himself and letting this offensive abortion take the field. 2. Everyone loved the Rex hiring, now Woody has him on notice as he should. 3. You have no proof Woody lobbied to acquire anyone. The owner here bares a little blame but the players, GM, and coaches a much more sizable share for not getting it done.
I argue the truth and how I feel. I'm not one to hop off the bandwagon in anything I do. If my teams lose I don't want everyone fired/traded unlike you guys. I am an optimist/realist. I don't wallow in negative thoughts in real life or w/ my teams. I bash when they deserve it but I don't go overboard like so many of you guys do. The facrs back me up as they always do, Woodu Johnson has done a very good job as the owner of the NY Jets. Has he made some dumb decisions? of course but show me any person in a position of power that hasn't made dumb decisions at some point. I go back to 1981, the franchise has never been in better hands than the team we have in place now w/ Woody as the owner, Tannenbaum as GM and Rex as HC. It sucks to be 3-6, it sucked to be 8-8 last year(which, oh by the way used to be considered a great season for us) but it was great getting to 2 title games and having 2 chances to reach the SB(we had 2 chances from 1969-2008) so changes need to be made but not major changes. Sorry you don't like that, I'm sure w/ the new HC/GM you'll complain about them the first sign of trouble and want a new HC/GM and the cycle will continue. I've been on this board 11-12 seasons now and I have seent he same stuff over and over. The first sign of trouble- "fire the coahc, fire the OC, trade this guy, cut that guy!" that's not the way to build a champion.
I'll never forget having to give up my tickets because I got priced out of my section. Sure, I could've went upper deck. And Woody Johnson could shove Tom Brady's private time toy up his wazoo.
i guess you didnt understand. the fact that woody sucks has nothing to do with any of those guys. the fact that tickets have gone up 500 percent has nothing to do with those guys. this is about woody not anyone else. to say that woody is great because he is better than someone else is just the most absurd thing ever. yeah ok stalin was great because he wasnt nearly as bad as hitler. thats absurd.
I didn't call Woody great but Jet fasn that aren't happy w/ Woody deserve what we saw under leon Hess.
hehe, i just be ok with that. hey we want better even though we are mediocre. thats absurd. i lived through more of the bad than you have. that doesnt mean i am ok with mediocre.
So people should accept an owner they think sucks just because you had a worse one before? People aren't allowed to hope for better? I wonder if you felt this way when people wanted Mangini gone. Wanting him gone got you Rex. I guess I don't see the problem with people wanting an upgrade. Just because somebody "could be worse" doesn't mean they shouldn't want more.
They think it's an upgrade, they thought Mangini was an upgrade from herm- they were wrong. 2 of Rex's 3 full seasons we were a top 2 team in the AFC, that's not bad , is it? You guys would kill for the results Rex has given us.
Well according to your logic Mangini being fired was probably too soon so who knows if he was worse than Herm. The point is that if you always are willing to settle for the guy you have because he's better than the last guy then you are always going to miss a chance to improve. Playing not to lose is what it is called.
Mangini was an upgrade to Herm absolutely, he did a solid job building this team that Rex rode. Favre was forced down his throat so that kind of screwed him. But in the end Mangini lost the team (just as Rex has twice now) so he had to go.
Mangini was a better in game coach than Herm by far. A shitty new stadium coming down the pike where Woody had to sell PSL's....well who would you rather have making your sales pitch, Rex or Mangini? To clarify however, Mangini wasnt a very good coach either.
he wasn't given a chance but in the chance he had he was much worse than Herm. settle? I'll settle for a guy to bring us to 2 title games in 3 years. I'm ok w/ that.
