I wonder if Woody believes himself when he talks about not caring about PSL's and seat sales moreso than winning. I guess when he had to say it, what, four or five times? during the interview that he was just trying to convince himself.
Woody has had the same amount of success as Hess did during his time as majority owner of the Jets. The only difference is we haven't had a stretch like 92-96 w/ Woody (yet).
There's a commonly held perception that Woody cares more about PSL's than about winning. Woody was pushing back against that. The way to do that is to repeat the thing that you want people to hear until you know that your idea is out there. My take on the overall issue is that nothing that Woody has done suggests that he values PSL's over winning. He spends as much or more money every year as the average NFL owner on improving the roster. The Tebow move may well have to been to sell PSL's but I highly doubt that the Jets made it thinking that it made the team worse or less likely to win. The Jets do have less talent this year than they did in 2010 and by quite a bit. That's not due to Woody not spending money. He ponied up big time for Revis, Mangold, Sanchez, D'Brick, Cromartie, Harris and Holmes. The reason the Jets have less talent is that some of the guys Woody stepped up and signed aren't worth what the Jets are paying for them. There's only so much cap space to go around and when you whiff on a few big contracts and overpay a few other people in a big way it comes back to bite you in the ass eventually. Woody doesn't care more about PSL's than winning. He has a huge blind spot and that seriously effects both endeavors.
Can't you guys just admit that the guy isn't in it for the PSL's. If the sky is blue and ya'll swore it was red, no one could tell you different. The facts are simple. He is not in it for the money, he's in it to win it, just like he stated. This goes hand in hand with the Tebow idea. Everyone can argue till they are blue in the face, but in the end, the guy has stated numerous times that he is in it to win it and is clearly not happy with our team. What does it take for you morons to understand this? The argument shouldn't be whether he's in it for the money or the team. The argument should involve our talent evaluation, aka, Tanny. The owner isn't going anywhere, so it's probably best to just shut the fuck up and hope Woody rolls some heads or we start winning. Stop looking to always blame someone else and just take it for what it is. Our talent evaluation sucks, not our head coach, Sanchez is an average QB when given good weapons, as we all have seen, and we need a new Offensive Coordinator.
No he didn't, more seasons, less playof apps, less playoff wins, less title game apps. and you cannot dismiss 1992-1996 and really it's 1989-1996 1989 4-12 1990 6-10 1991 8-8 1992 4-12 1993 8-8 1994 6-10 1995 3-13 1996 1-15 8 yr stretch: 40-88
Man, the tailgates must have been a lot of fun, how the hell did I stay on after all those lousy seasons. I feel at home this year being a crappy team. No pressure and being a joke to the NFL. All is normal in Jet land. If Rex picks his nose, I am outta here
Exactly... Also, It was Hess' hiring of the Tuna that got this franchise back from the dead. This carried over into the Woody era, considering Parcells drafted and built that team. Pennington, Curtis Martin, John Abraham, Coles, etc... those 2002 and by extension 2004 teams were built before Woody put his hands in things. I'll give him credit for staying out of things those years, but I don't really believe he should get credit for anything more than that during those years. A good indication of an owner is successes he has when HE particularly gets involved or makes decisions. In Woody's case, he's been terrible. -Fucked up the WSS -Lobby for Brett Favre (failure) -Created this crap ass concrete joke called New Meadowlands Stadium and pushing greedy PSLs over and beyond anything else -Lobby for Timothy Tebow (major major failure) Early on in his ownership Woody stayed out of things on the football side. 2000-2006ish. Only recently has he unfortunately gotten more involved - I don't think its any coincidence that the franchise at this moment in time is at is worst place in the industry since he's owned the team. Top to bottom the organization is flawed. Priorities are out of whack and there seems to be no leadership, Woody created this. He wanted/encouraged loud mouth Rex Ryan, he wanted Tim Tebow, he loves the headlines... The NYJ are a running fucking joke right now. I'm almost as embarrassed for this team as I was in the Kotite era. Those teams were a bigger joke on the field, but at least they were just a shitty team and not talking/lobbying for headlines like the fucking Kardashian sisters! So you are right, success-wise the Woody era is not much differant than the Hess era outside of 92-96, but look where they are headed. A repeat of that inepititude is right around the corner, if not here already. What is this team going to look like in 2014, 2015,2016??.. nobody knows, but they aren't in a good place right now to be encouraged and if Woody keeps dipping his hands in things it could be really ugly. Woody Johnson needs to get back to where he was in the Early 2000s and stay out of everything. Just sign the checks and enjoy your life of luxury from high above the stadium. The best thing he can do to prove winning is his highest priority is to fire Tannenbaum/ Rex and start fresh with a FOOTBALL mind running the ship and stay the fuck out of his business. If he does that I will have more respect for him but as of right now I hate the man.
I disagree. The majority of this board loved Tannenbaum a few years ago when they went to back to back AFC championship games. Should Woody have fired him last year? And most teams don't fire their GM halfway through a season. He said this isn't acceptable and he doesn't talk about contracts in season when they asked him about Tannenbaum.
Since Hess had majority control of the Jets he and Woody have had the same amount of playoff apps, same amount of Championship games. And you claim that everyone else has reading problems when reading your posts, but where did I say to dismiss 92-96?
The more I think about how screwed this team is in all these aspects, the more worried I get about not being able to see a successful Jets season/playoffs in a looooooong time. It's beyond saddening. So much passion for this team and us fans are being shown an embarrassment of a franchise both on and off the field.
1984-1999(16 seasons): 111-143-1, 44% 4 playoff apps 2 playoff wins 1 title game app 1 div title 8 losing seasons 3 .500 seasons 5 winning seasons 2000-current(12 full seasons) 102-99, 51% 6 playoff apps 6 playoff wins 2 title game apps 1 div title 3 losing seasons 1 .500 season 8 winning seasons Not even close, the ONLY good thing Leon did was steal Parcells and that's b/c he was desperate b/c he wanted to see a winner before he died. Woody has given us consistent success and considering the AFC has been the dominant conference under Woodya nd the AFC was weak under Leon the #s are even greater in Woody's favor than it appears.
Hess gained majority control in 1981 not 1984. He has 6 p/o apps, 2 AFC Ch. games. But the point is, Woody is NO better than Hess was.
 Our record under our "stupid fucking idiot" owner thru 2011: 99-94-0 Our record for the rest of our franchise history: 249-328-8 So can the people claiming we'll never win under Woody and calling him names just STFU? LOL at calling him childish names. Grow up.
If you do not win the SB U R a loser so tells us all when was the last time we won a SB? I bet it was way before you entered the world
championjets is an original SOJ fan. he's seen some shit. we should accept his wisdom with open ears.
