I'd like to see Jenkins, flanked by Gholston (Ellis) and Gilbert.

For all of Gholston being a bust, more than half the time, it takes two guys to keep him from pushing into the backfield.

(The problem as I see it is, he doesn't do anything once he actually gets there.)

2 Guys on VG...Two on Jenkins, and you leave the athletic Gilbert one on one on the LT.

He's not saying exclusively from the LB's but he is right in that it is mainly the responsibility of the OLB's to get pressure and that is where I think the weakness on the Jets lie. There is just no speed at the OLB position. Thomas and Taylor have been very dissapointing and Pace has apparently been hindered by the foot injury. This D-line is much better than people give them credit for. DeVito and Pouha have been very nice surprises the last couple of years and they can definitely hold their own. And ellis, while getting up there in age has been getting pretty good pressure. I think the blame is being placed on the wrong people in this case.

The fact that you keep referencing the Giants d-line to compare to ours is ridiculous and shows how much you understand the 3-4. Compare our d-line to another 3-4 d-line if you want to be taken seriously.

Agreed...but they could/should be giving us more rush. I'm not looking for what the Giants give/get, but too many mediocre offensive lines gave their QB's 5-7 seconds to throw the ball this year.

    No argument.

He never got sustained pressures. Another run-stuffer and another Bradway mistake, getting sucked in by the pre-draft hype.

They often go with 3 pass rushers in passing downs....my point is they have multiple passrushers.

True the giants have some great pass rushers on the d-line but they pay for that with the lack of talent in the secondary, so when the d-line isn't getting pressure they get burned. The NFL is not the MLB, you will have a weakness somewhere due to the salary cap. you can't buy a championship

Aside from playing in a secondary for many years and knowing what works, yes.

Some fans need to learn the difference between 3-4 and a 4-3 defenses.

So because you played safety for your D division flag football team you think you know the differences between a 3-4 and 4-3 defense in the NFL? It's pretty obvious by what you've posted in this thread that you're clueless.

    Google 3-4 Defense.

    Google 4-3 Defense.

They both show up as a Wikipedia link and some books too. Click on the Wiki links with your left mouse button. From that point read from left to right and go down the page.

If you see words like Nickel, Dime, or Quarter, just skip past those sentences for now.

I find it funny that in this day and age, some people still don't know the fundamental differences between a 30 and a 40 front.

I'm sure the OP would claim that the Colts have a monster pass rush from their D-Line.

The Colts had 28 sacks from their D-L and OLB combined. The Jets had 25.

Forgive me, but I never claimed to be an expert on the 3-4 defensive formation:

How exactly does one track the performance of the defensive linemen? What stats do you look at? If their job is to eat up blockers, would you look for the Linebackers to have wide leads in all relevant defensive statistics?

I'm asking this question because I honestly do not know.

Give the guy a fucking break. If someone here isn't knowledgeable about football, help them understand. Don't hide behind your keyboard and tear the dude apart. And why are you guys so quick to go off on someone who starts a thread you don't like? Get over it, ignore the thread and go rub one out or beat up a patriot fan or something.

And while I agree that the OLB's are key to our pass rush, and Pouha has been pretty legit, Jenkins makes a huge difference here if he's still around. And we need to upgrade the DL next year IMO.

I was just joking around, I actually agree with you in the sense that our D Line is a definite weakness. They do well against the run, but we don't have anyone on the line who generates pressure on the QB.

Someone who is a regular poster on here should know the difference by now. Unless of course they just come here to start a thread ranting once and a while.

Here's an interesting stat - Kris Jenkins' brother leads all 3-4 DE's in sacks.

Again, you should be the last person attempting to insult someone's knowledge about football.

We are now 3 pages into this thread and you still don't have a clue what you're talking about.
