Now how do U know I am old & is your HO that ALL elderly people live in retirement communties? Again since U never met me U are totally SPECULATING what I am & where I live & are looking pretty silly IMHO as well doing it
somebody in a bad mood today..lol I guess it's a age thing LOL Hey man chill I'm just messing with u and to answer ur question no it shouldn't.
Blowing both knee's out and comming back and playing good ball ,nothing else need be said. Good player. not great!
I can read, it's in your profile: Date of Birth: April 19, 1940 Age: 67 Location: Austin TX Occupation: Retired You have said repeatedly you live in Texas. You have repeatedly bashed some of the younger posters here claiming they haven't lived through the Jets like you have and aren't as loyal as you because of either that or that they don't have season tickets. Also, you are the biggest judge of others on this board, and considering you keep a spreadsheet of people who disagree with you and judge them based on that, you are a huge hypocrite for speculating on THEM. And yes, once people reach a certain age and can no longer function in society without care, I firmly believe that they should be in a place where they can GET that care.
That pretty much sums him up. Was he the next LT? No, but I voted based on what he did for the Jets. I don't care what these players do in college. I only care about what they do on the Jets. And he was a good player for us once he got over his injury hurdles early in his career.
So then by your standards, wouldn't Dick Butkus have been a bum too? The Bears never even made the playoffs with him and Gale Sayers both on the team, correct? They certainly never won the SB or the NFLC prior to that. Had they been, say, 80s Jets, you'd write them off as bums and losers too, correct? But yet you praise Butkus. How is that, champ?
He had a productive career, to be sure. BUT, I watched him when he was at FSU when he played against the Hurricanes and I never saw a player dominate the way he did. I will never forget watching him on the same play rush the passer and get within a hand of a sack and then turn and run down the field and catch the back from behind on a screen pass. It was flat out incredible. When the Jets drafted him I was beyond ecstatic. Unfortunately, injuries slowed him to the point of just being above average, never the superstar I envisioned.
That sounds like the Joel Williams play in the 1980 "Duel in Dixie" Cowboys-Falcons playoff game. On the play in question Williams almost sacked Danny White. White dumped off a pass to Preston Pearson at the last moment. Pearson took off down the sideline. Williams was on the ground. 40 or so yards later, Williams forced a fumble. Greatest play by a defensive player in NFL history in my opinion. 1980 Falcons very similar to 2006 Chargers Both were probably the best team in the league that year, but neither won a single playoff game. Both were stunned in the 4th quarter in home playoff games.
Butkus MADE a impact in the league. Whenever U talk to a FB fan not just a NYJ fan Butkus name will come up as DOMINATING LBer whereas outside of NYJ fans NOBODY will ever dreg up Marvin's name except maybe a NYJ fan
Ok, but in your world where only Super Bowl championships matter, how is it possible that Butkus made an impact? Personally, I think he was an all-time great, but I don't adhere to the "Super Bowl or bust" formula that you so feverishly stick to.
Sadly, I would have to vote unfavorable. He came as the second overall pick, meaning he should dominate. In college he was the classic sideline to sideline pursuit linebacker. He got hurt very early in his pro career and after that was never the player he was in college. I remember RB's running right around his slow a$$ hundreds of times. True, it was because he got injured, but that's part of the equation. He was a sure tackler if the play came to him, but that was about it. He was not as good of an overall player as Mo, nor was he as good as Cox. Unfavorable.
Since the regular is season is played ONLY to win the CHAMPIONSHIP then EVERY fan has to subscribe to the SB or bust theroy since that is what it is all about & yes for 31 other teams other the CHAMPION it is a UNSUCCESSFUL season. If you chose to rationalize it any other way then I would not even attempt to change your mind. As a wonderful example how do you think the fans in SD feel after going 14-2 & disappearing from the POs? How do U think the fans in KC feel when Marty was making great records & bombing out immediately? Those that subscribe to the position that making the POs & then exiting automatically means U will advance further the next year are IMHO just deluding themselves. One most ALWAYs remember that the season is played to WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP that is why the Pats loaded up this year which I am sure U R aware of not to JUST make the POs but to get there 4th ring & anything less will be a MAJOR disappointment in beantown.
H'mm U would have a most difficult time of telling the FB world that since his name is constantly brought up. Also DB is only 1 of 22 starters right or are U saying he is super human & can play all 22 positions at the same time? Also I ONLY used DB as a example as a player that made a impact in the NFL vs Marvin J or left the NFL without leaving any impact on the league whatsoever right?
"Legendary?" "Staple of the Franchise?" you guys have got to be kidding! Jones was an above average player at best, when he wasn't injured. Never a star or even a top flight MLB. He lacked the size to be a prototypical MLB, but he also had issues in coverage. The guy missed most of his early career injured, then fell apart in later years.
