Favorable just for the nickname. What I wouldn't give to be known as Shadetree.

It is amazing to see the opinions of posters here to the most average of NYJ players. Just cause they played for us DOES NOT make them good players when compared to others of there generation. Shucks Marvin was soooooooo good when cut & yes he was cut NOBODY, repeat NOBODY offered him or for that matter slow Mo a job. That is NOBODY folks. Just think the Pats just resigned Seau who is what 38 or so & Marvin was like 32 when axed so what does that say about MJ abilities?

Jones was actually only 31 when he played his final game.
He never played in a Pro Bowl and certainly never was an All-Pro.

I voted favorable because he was a regular starter for a decade and was not a bad player. However, he was not worth the value of a #4 overall pick.

Thanks that makes it even worse that all other teams thought MJ had NO talent at age 31. Says a lot also about the quality of the talent we drafted

Different players age at different rates. With his injuries probably playing a part, Jones wore down quicker than some. Just because nobody wanted him at the end of his career does not mean he was never any good.

Jones was a good linebacker who made a big play every now and then, but he never became the dominant player Jets fans had hoped for. That serious hip injury in his rookie season really hurt.

Yes I subscribe to the theroy that players lose there skills at different times of there careers. Yes the broken hip may have set him back in his rookie year but supposely his bones had totally healed for his 2nd year & since he played some more years I would have to say that report was true. As U said just a another most average of NYJ players that we have on a roster for years & years which is the reason we have won nothing in 38 years & counting

Actually, he called him a good linebacker, and not "just another most average". If you're going to quote someone with "as u said" at least get it right. SLW.

Well if U call this a positive statement about the player then good for U

Jones was a good linebacker who made a big play every now and then, but he never became the dominant player Jets fans had hoped for. That serious hip injury in his rookie season really hurt.

BUT HE NEVER BECAME THE DOMINANT PLAYER JET FANS HAD HOPED FOR means he was just another very, very ,very average or below average player no matter how U choose to slice or dice it

Jones was solid, if unspectacular for us. Honestly, I don't hold his high pick that much against him, as he still made his contributions. He was just a roleplayer on the team rather than a playmaker. I'd still rather have him with us than against us.

He said he was a "good linebacker" and you're twisting his words and then saying he was "just another very, very ,very average or below average player ". You really have no grasp of the English language or how to interpret things people say.

You think every player who doesn't go to the HOF is an utter failure, so why should anyone take what you say seriously?

    F'n SLW.

No I do not & since you have never had a conversation with me U have no way of knowing what I am thinking so do not try to think U do. Also there are plently of players who can contribute without being in the HOF & there are others like Marvin who were touted as being the next coming of LT who turned out to be like I said a very, very, very average player no different then many before & after him

Oh please. There are plenty of players that can contribute now without being in the HOF? You have no concept of role players which you've proven plenty of times in the past. And now you're saying they can contribute without being superstars? Pick a side of the fence champ instead of straddling it and then picking which side to be on when it suits you best.

EDIT: You haven't even voted on this guy. Let's see where you stand.

If you are just going to look at his career as a Jet and forget about his reputation coming in then I would say favorable. He played his heart out for this team and was a solid player. Never lived up to his hype though and never became the defensive force he was supposed to, which makes it unfavorable for me.

wow, very surprised by these results. I guess everyone was able to look past the fact that he didn't live up to the hype.

Contribute= average. Again you have no idea what my concept are since you have never discussed it with me face to face. You can CLAIM anything U want but it is SHEER SPECULATION on your part. Also, if U have to ask how I would vote then U are needing a hugh dose of common sense

Champ hates everyone who ever played for the Jets after 1970, haven't you figured that out by now?

I would never meet you face to face. Going to retirement homes make me uncomfortable.
