O'Neal was signed by the Patriots this morning. Are the Jets sleeping while all these other teams are doing deals ?
I personally think Brandon Moore is the perhaps the Jets most underrated all around player. There is a reason he has been a mainstay on the Jets offensive line for years now - he is solid. Not great. But very solid. He is an above average run blocker and pass blocker and his only flaw is that he commits too many penalties. (A weakness certainly, but I would take that weakeness with superior blocking skills over inferior blocking skills and no penalities any day of the week) Remember, he survived the transition from the herm regime to the Mangini regime and has started every game in his career when he wasn't hurt. He's a good player who doesn't get enough respect from Jets fans on this board.
I agree with you for now. Moore has been a decent lineman for us for a few years now. It amazes me how some people can cling to guys who did not fit or were physically done, but always want to bash some of the more productive guys around here. Moore is an inexpensive guard who is decent at his job. Good enough for me at the momment. If he is the weakest link on our line this year then its going to be a very good year for us.
You really want us to start picking up scraps from the bungles defensive cuts? He couldn't make the Bengals secondary. The Bengals.
Player Signings Deltha O'Neal, CB. Signed by: Patriots Rudi Johnson, RB. Signed by: Lions Kynan Forney, OG. Signed by: Chargers Ashley Lelie, WR. Signed by: Raiders
Obviously he isn't a POS since the Pats signed him and he will likely start there. Also I haven't looked much into it but I guarantee you that the cut was monetarily motivated.
He lost his starting job some time last season and was moved to Nickel corner. This preseason he was beat out for the Nickel spot too. If he starts in NE it's because their secondary is that bad.
TOP 3 1.Dre Moore DE -Idk why he fell and why he was cut but i mean udont just suddenly forget how to play the guy was a beast at maryland and has the size strength and speed to play the 34 end the Jets neen to sign him. 2.Chad Jackson WR-We need a burner now thats Clowney is out for a while Jackson has mad talent idk maybe got lost in the mix in NE i know the pats have a great eye for talent but everyone makes mistakes hopefully they made one. 3.Josh Barrett-the guy has skills but more imporatntly we really have no fs we need to bring in some new bodies not old ones(John Lynch)to challenge for that fs position.
**22) Jerome Messam, RB. Relased by: Undrafted This guy was not released by any team as he went undrafted this past year's draft but I still think he can excel in the NFL. Messam was up there with Legget and Dixon for me as my favorite late round prospects. Messam had committed to Rutgers as a freshman after leading Canada to a victory over the US High School All-Stars by rushing for 308 yards and 2 TDs(against the best players in the nation). However he was academically ineligible and ultimately ended up at Graceland, an NAIA school. And check this out. Messam is 6'4, 245 lbs, runs a 4.4 40 and is brutally strong. Here's a little clip for you courtesy of Dan Ralph and the Canadian Press (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/News/2008/01/25/4794199-cp.html): "Messam has the blend of size, power and speed that pro scouts love. While he is definitely big enough to run between the tackles, he's also strong, having bench-pressed 320 pounds. And with having posted 40-yard dash time under 4.4 seconds, he's also got the quickness to be deadly on the outside." So why would he go undrafted? There are a few reasons: a) This draft was loaded with RBs. b) He has intelligence questions since he could not qualify academically to play at Rutgers. c) He did not get to finish last season because of a broken leg, but it is now fully healed. After not qualifying academically to play at Rutgers, Messam went to play for North Dakota State College for two seasons and racked up 1,289 yards and 8 TDs on 249 carries in 11 games. Became a top-rated JUCO prospect and received scholarship offers from Florida, USC, Colorado and New Mexico among others but again could not qualify academically. He then went to play for Graceland last year and rushed for 993 yards and 16 TDs on 168 carries (a 5.9 yard per carry average) before breaking his leg. His best performance last year was a 253 yard rushing effort on 23 carries with 4 TDs (thats 10+ yards per carry). While he may never have qualified academically, there is no questions that Messam can play football. After his sophomore year at North Dakota State many compared him to Bo Jackson (it's in the article). The Jets need a power back and Messam would be a great guy to bring in. He is just as big as Brandon Jacobs but faster. Think about that.
In 2007, O'Neal made 8 starts. Jonathan Joseph started 14 times. Leon Hall had 10 starts. O'Neal was pretty good. Joseph was up and down. Hall was torched during the first half of the season. He improved in the 2nd half, but was still not good. O'Neal is on the wrong side of 30 and can be a headache for coaches, so from that standpoint I can see why the Bengals let him go.
You're talking about a team that is willing to re-sign Chris friggen Henry to fill a hole. If O'Neal was the better corner than any of the guys ahead of him I have a hard time believing they would have cut him because of his personality.
I'll assume that O'Neal made a stink about not starting and the Bengals didn't want to deal with that headache all year. How that relates to the signing of Henry is something I don't think matters. I believe O'Neal is in a contract year and not starting was probably really worrisome to him. I expect him to play reasonably well for New England.
