He mentioned there were other things he would do but he didn't tell the press what exactly those other things were.
Worst head coaching games ever? LOL. Rex is a great head coach, a defensive genius (gotta pick one side of the ball to be an expert) AND a motivating leader. Hope he's our head coach for the next 10 years. _
Still has no clue on clock management and isolates himself from the offense. How exactly is he a great "head coach"? Perfect scenario would be to keep Rexy as a DC and hire a real head coach but we all know that will never happen so we are stuck with the current situation. Maybe we can hire someone for clock management sorta like we did with Herm.
I wish we could stop over inflating the importance of clock management as if that is 90% of the job requirement for a HC. To make matters worst, Some people are now lumping clock management with throwing the red flag for challenges to boot. Is Rex weak in that area? hell yes. But if that is our only problem, versus a mediocre cheer leader that does not know shit about x and os I take Rex any day of the weak. I think as a football mind on both sides of the ball he is better than 95% of all the current HC out there and 99% better than all of them at taking shitty talent and getting the best performance possible. Had he been blessed with a great QB from day one all this discussion would be mute and we will be kissing his ass for bringing a championship to NY.
As pointed out, there are plenty of coaches who isolate themselves from one unit or another and if clock management is his biggest flaw and I get a defensive genius putting up a top defense year in and year out AND he is a motivating guy that players want to play with, then I'll take it. There are no perfect coaches out there. _
Either show how every other successful coach does not isolate themselves to the one side of the ball that is their expertise or admit you have no idea what you are talking about. There are no other options for you with the stance you have taken. I will help you make your decision. Several Super Bowl winning coaches have already been discussed in this thread that stick to one side of the ball and delegate the other. Your position on the matter has no basis in reality.
I think folks are hoping for the perfect coach/human being. Offensive guru, defensive genius, clock managment expert, x-ray vision to help with challenges, never boastful yet completely engaging in interviews, builds houses for the homeless, feeds the poor, tears that cure lupus, loves puppies and makes an incredibly delicious lasagna. _
Listen...I cant speak for others here but...I mean..Im really trying to choose my words correctly here...lol. He is the HC....I mean..are guys serious about this "you guys want the perfect coach" stuff? He is the HC. He handles game management no? Did anyone else have a major...I mean major problem with the way timeouts were called against the Bucs? I went to a high school game this weekend that came down to the wire and they called timeouts as soon as the whistle blew to end the previous play. Not saying you...but some of you are making it sound like we are really pissed off about the sweaters he chooses to wear. So running plays up by 11 towards the end of the 3rd quarter with 18 seconds still left on the play clock..we are now ok with that? I mean this is a pretty huge list. Stop with the perfect coach stuff guys. We 100 % knew from the beginning with Rex that that aint happening. You take the good with the bad...and Iim ok with a little bad. All Im saying is that if he is now completely in charge of the defense..he needs major help with game time management..major. Watching his offense run...having his struggling rookie at times run the play clock with the lead. This perfect coach stuff is just nonsense.
This is MM's offense to run it as he sees fit. We don't want Rex anywhere NEAR the offense. If you want to blame Rex for MMs offense, then I'll take the good with the bad. Because his other good is GREAT. _
I totally agree that MM should be telling the kid he has to eat clock..totally...but he didnt. My point is it falls at the feet of the HC and somebody needs to clean that up. MM will not get fired because we leave time on the clock in future games to let teams come back and win...Rex will.
perfect coach stuff is nonsense, get out of here with that stupid shit stokes.. Perfect waved bye bye to Rex a long time ago, anyway. It's not that much to ask your HEAD coach to be able to manage the clock and use his damn head when challenging. Especially when he's lessened his role with the offense..aka.. he has more time to think about these things. Rex is never going to be a great coach in this league because he's so reckless. We see it everywhere with him. Reckless is great when you are running a defense, but a HC can't be this way. I'm not just talking about being reckless off the field - - Reckless is immediately reaching for the red flag because you are pissed off about a call, instead of taking the time to consult with your brain trust, or understanding the situation you are in on the field. Baltimore had him close to their vest for years and didn't hire him and this is probably why. Your head coach needs to be a CEO type, managing all aspects, being detail oriented, on an even keel, etc- not a loose cannon like Rex. Jets fans love him because he's got the "everyman" appeal. I get it. And I love the guy sometimes myself - he makes football fun. Rex will never be perfect and I can take a lot of the rollercoaster stuff with him, but when it comes to the game on sunday - I will always criticize him for things like blowing stupid challenges, clock management, dumb decisions, etc.. and deservedly so. If he wants to coach like that then he deserves what comes with it, especially when probably most if not all of the coaches in the league wouldn't have blown a challenge like that.
At least Rex doesn't have his back to the offense like he did during pre-season. I'm kinda curious why MM isn't shown as the face of the offense on the sidelines, or at least standing next to Rex when Geno has the ball. If MM knows exactly what he wants to happen including timeouts at the end of the game, he should be yelling in Rex's ear. Rex seems to be more of a middle man on offense. Heck, just give MM a red flag and let him run the Geno show.
I've seen a bunch of blown/sillier challenges over the years, and I don't agree that the head coach needs to be a CEO type. Players respond to Rex, he is going to build a great team here if we can keep MM around. I'll gladly take the bad with the good. _
Are you people serious? Why the hell didn't Geno call a time earlier. The challenges who gives a flying fuck those are blown all the time and have seen challenges get overturned that I though there was no way possible. I want my coach to coach meaning having a better game plan and his team ready to play. You don't think Rex helped MM prepare for Pettine defense? They put up 500+ yds Rex had a big influence. Rex's defense has played lights out in every game thus far I say he has done pretty good of being a head coach. If he was Chip Kelly and did not know the rules I would be a little more concerned. But to take this team and be 2-1 Great job coach.
It's okay, you can tell me.... I won't let these other peeps know what you said. Just write in really hushed letters so only I can read it.
