After the debacle that was the Nugent era, Feeley restored some sense of confidence in the kicking game. Did he struggle against Indy, absolutely, but for the most part the guy made the ones that he was supposed to make, and more often than not he made the longer ones in the clutch that needed to be made. Hopefully we won't all end up missing him as much as I think we will. Having said that, the team's hands were somewhat tied with the FA rules. They wanted a pass rusher and Feeley ended up being the price that they paid to sign one.

I'm just hoping that Folk steps up early and instills confidence. Can he really do worse than the Nuge did in his first appearance as a Jet? The dude slipped and fell on his ass week 1 against KC attempting a field goal. Ah, good times, good times indeed...

I remember that like it happened last Sunday. I still remember the post putting a picture in the paper with Herm leaning over Nuge on the ground and the quote says "Welcome to the Jets!"

    haha

Nugent and Doug Brien. All those years people pissed and moaned about John Hall and then we lost out on going to the AFC Championship Game on two kicks that Hall certainly would have made one of. Everyone underestimates the kicker until it bites us in the ass at the worst time.

PS--Your username, is that a Nirvana song reference?

Bottom line is give Folk a chance in training camp.

We will be hearing how he is doing, and he had one damn good season...why cant he go back? Guy had a bad year.

I cant wait til this Nick Folk dude is nailing 45+ field goals, and everybody here is giving him fellatio via tgg forum.

We hope so, that's Plan A right now. We'll see when we're lined up for a kick to beat the Pats in Week 2 how good he is. He can bang all the 45 yarders he wants vs the Redskins in August, I could care less.

If Jay Feely was still on the roster, I'd be saying the same thing about him.

    No kicker is automatic.

Jay Feely sucked in the playoffs and his missed kicks hurt us in the AFC Championship more than people seem to think. He gave Indy all of the momentum.

Feely has proven himself to be pretty clutch and he could kick in the elements where we play, that much we know. People are overstating the Indy game, anyone who thinks we win the game if Feely makes those kicks hasn't been watching Peyton Manning for the past 12 years. We lost the game 30-17, it wasn't a Doug Brien scenario, not even close.

The word "clutch" stands alone. In my opinion, there's no such thing as pretty clutch...that's basically saying he's almost perfect.

I agree about kicking in the elements. That's the one thing that worries me about a new kicker.

I didn't say it was Feely's fault we lost, but he definitely contributed to it.

He missed a kick when we were winning and it gave Manning a short field. The Colts scored a quick TD and didn't look back.

It should have been 20-20 after Manning's second TD pass. That miss changed the tone of the game and there's no doubt in my mind about it.

It wasn't, but I agree with Mr. E. The missed kicks gave Manning short fields and he capitalized on it. Momentum shifted and gave Indy 2 TD lead. If Feely made one of them, it would have been 23-20 Indy with no TD off short field. Its not just 6 points he missed, its the momentum and the short field advantage.

If anything, Feely was average. He is overrated by Jets fanbase. When we first signed him, he was missing kicks in every game (MAG = Miss A Game). We consistently gave up on kicking 50 yarders through out the season for exception of maybe 2 or 3 kicks.

I'm not disputing that the missed FG gave Manning a short field, my point is even if you give him a long field, in one play he'd reduce it to a short field. That's why Bellichick went for 4th and 2 at the risk of giving him the short field. I'm not one of these hero worship guys, but you get Manning going in that building and you can start him outside in the parking lot, he'll make it a short field anyway. Would the three points have helped us? Of course, in the end I don't think it mattered, certainly not enough to change kickers over and go with a less proven guy.
