Mayfield wasn't late to practice or meetings. (well maybe he was that morning). He was coming in early, just not as early as Taylor.

I was disappointed to read that about Mayfield, but Ralebird has a point. If Mayfield stays up late studying then I don't have a problem with his not getting in as early as Taylor in the morning. If Mayfield's staying up late partying or playing video games, then that's another matter. People and their body clocks are not the same. Trying to treat them as they are is silly. I'm a night person. I can stay up all night and not get tired. I get a second wind around 10:30 - 11:00 most nights. When I try to go to bed earlier, I can't get to sleep for an hour or more. When I go to bed at my normal time 12-1:00 am I go right to sleep and I wake up feeling rested most mornings. When I was fresh out of college, I taught public school for a couple of years had to get up really early and be at school before 8:00 am. I was always tired. I could get 8 hours sleep and still be tired. Now, I'm a lot older, and I follow my natural body clock, I'm more rested, and I only have to get up early one day a week. The others I can sleep until 8-9, and sometimes later.

Taylor may be having to get up extra early and get to the facility to hold onto the starting position he was handed before TC started.

Sounds like Darnold is having a strange camp. Usually rookie QBs light it up between the 20s but fall apart in the red zone. From what I’ve read, Sam has been streaky in the middle of the field but impeccable near the end zone. Not sure what to make of that.

  3. He can literally drop in the basket w.o guys breaking stride..at least thats what we’ve seen in individuals..

It’s likely just a timing thing. Either these receivers need to get to the anticpated spot rather than just running for broke w eyes & hands up OR Darnold needs take some air off his throws & drive the ball

It’s worth noting the WRs hes missed deep outside of Robbie Anderson(once) & Cannon, arent exactly final roster candidates. The ones that worry me are the under thrown Ints

Think it has to do with Sam learning the sled of some WRs, think he's joking they're really fast

Some career veteran QB's never really get proficient in the red zone. Sam will establish consistency and rhythm between the 20's. The fact that he's already looking like a clutch red zone player is very very encouraging.

    Also some things to consider

    1. He's still playing catch up
    2. Victimized by some drops
    3. Doesn't quite have the rhythm and chemistry with his receivers yet
    4. We're actually shaping up to have a really good defense. Especially the secondary. So the competition is real and high end.

He's doing just fine. This is miles ahead of Hack hitting reporters. Darnold makes WOW throws every day

4 is a great point. our d-line is much better then our o-line so he's playing under pressure and while our WRs are great IMO so are claiborne and johnson. johnson is a top 3 CB in the NFL and claiborne is really a number 1 CB too so probably the best #2 in the league. sam is playing against better CBs then he'll so most sundays in practice. he's not picking on scrub CBs who are gonna get lit up during the season

It's very bad sarcasm. He is insinuating that Darnold can do no wrong, so if he underthrew a route, it's the WRs fault for running too fast. Brilliant stuff.

Agreed, his Twitter is a painful read if you're following for camp updates.

I also think the practices vs. The redskins next week is a great idea. It will give Sam extra time to play against another team and get acclaimed with his receivers & the speed of the game. In a perfect world I would like to see Sam start day one. I think it will be clear to us, Bowls & Bates whether Sam is ready day 1 or he needs more time. If it's a close decision I think you gotta play him.

I'm talking about what YOU are talking about. YOU are the one who stated that Bowles gets to the facility at four AM and YOU expect Jackson does too. YOU also said the player should get there by five. Where do YOU get off making these decisions for someone else?

I've already stated he should never be late, which he wasn't, and he should be there in advance of the required time but if practice starts at 9:30 getting there between four and five AM means he's there five hours early. Some people thrive on the "early to bed, early to rise" scenario but many don't and it hinders their performance. I am all in favor of treating adults like adults and allowing them the latitude to decide for themselves how and when their "extra work time" is spent.

Furthermore, this has absolutely no place on the Jets Training Camp Forum. Why would YOU post a video about Mayfield, Jackson and the Browns here? Just let us know if Darnold goes AWOL, okay?

When your coach tells you you should be here earlier, you're late.

I posted the video because I wanted to. I posted the video to show the maturity levels of our QB and the mini QB so many fell in love with. I kind of knew that his fanbase would get all crazy and attack the notion that it's not ok to be late to the facility. That you shouldn't get there after the bridge QB. As I figured people would fall over themselves giving reasons why it's perfectly acceptable to get to work later and leave earlier than a vet you're competing with for playing time. Are you seriously twisted over a Baker video or twisted that it's a negative video?

Actually I posted the video because of how much better it makes Darnold look, how much maturity he shows compared to other early 20s players. Nothing more.

Actually I don't give the smallest crap about Baker Mayfield, as long as he is not on the Jets.

Anything that Mayfield does has absolutely zero to do with Sam Darnold or how he "looks."

So going on and on and on defending him. Giving me shit for thinking he maybe should get his ass into the facility without it being an issue to the HC is proof that you don't give a crap about him? Lol

Given all the debate over Mayfield as a Jet possibility how he's doing is fun to monitor. You can just ignore the comments if it's of no interest to you. Didn't think it had to have 100% interest to be brought up. Jeez.

Can't even fathom why Baker Mayfield is being brought up when we have Sam Darnold impressing as a 21 year old a few days into his first training camp.

Anyways, here's "that catch" from Pryor. Apologies if it was already posted, I just saw it:

do these beat reporters talk about anything else going on on the field or is it just Darnold stuff now?

Again, because there was a lot of debate and in fighting over Mayfield. What I can't fathom is the complaining about a link.

    Another view.
