Joe Namath endorses Jets' pursuit of Terrell Owens http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/07/27/joe-namath-endorses-jets-pursuit-of-terrell-owens/ Within the past hour or so, we opined that the Jets have leaked their interest in receiver Terrell Owens in order to gauge player, media, and fan reaction. Already, a fairly well known former player who once wanted to lock lips with a member of the media has made it known that he thinks the fan reaction should be overwhelmingly positive. Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath, whose Twitter account we have followed despite a previous lack of any entries that were remotely interesting, had this to say about the pursuit of T.O.: "What Jet fan would NOT want T.O. on the team!" Watch out, Terrell. It sounds like someone wants to kiss you.
I had wondered if I wanted T.O. here because you can never truly have enough weapons. But no. It's just not worth it. It might help through the first 4 games while we wait for Holmes, but then what? Holmes hits the slot and Cotchery gets the bench? I don't think so. As for people still thinking we're a run first team, I said it at the end of last season and have repeated it a few times now, we're not a run-first team. They may claim to be, but as long as Sanchez can throw the ball, he will be throwing the ball.
To could probably contribute nicely on this squad but for some reason i just don't wanna see him in green and white, i think we currently have a very capable wr core , this move to me would just be overkill.
People are so dumb. All I hear is that we lost Thomas Jones, we are done. First off Jones never had any big runs at all. Maybe one in the Raiders game. Secondly Shonne Greene did a much better job than him. Thirdly, YOU couldn't pass to Jones, he couldnt catch for shit. On the other hand L.T. we can fake the run and then have him wide open to pass to. Jones was just a product of the system. His number will drop completely in KC, just watch and see.
this was on Joe's facebook this morning Joe Namath T. Owens a Jet? Would be a good move by the Jets, as well as a buzz for the fans. 3 hours ago
Also just sign him, he gives. I want the Super Bowl ring. Just sign the idiot and cut him after week 4
TJ had 3 TD runs of 30+ yards last year including a 71 yarder against the Bills. Secondly, Greene did not do a much better job than Jones last year. Greene (when he was on the field) had a fumbling problem and was non existant as a receiver. Thirdly, Jones is a good receiver out of the backfield (74 receptions in the last 3 seasons). Jones has been in a few different systems over the last several years and was one of the better producers on the field (2nd in Rushing Yards since 2004)
Guys we have LT now so we need to get over TJ. TJ was a product of the best OLINE in the league. I wish him the best but we made the right move here. He wont be putting up any numbers at KC
QFT TO will sign for a lot less than the Revis deal will cost and there are a ton of issues regarding the CBA that relate to Revis' deal. TO would be a couple million, even with incentives. There was a poster here back in 2007 or 2008 before Favre came on board. His quote stuck with me. Something about "Favre to T.O., touchdown Jets!" Look like that premonition might come true. TO to the Jets makes sense if you look at it from a defensive perspective. Every team we play will need a secondary as deep or deeper than the Jets to defend all these top flight receivers. That means there is NO team with a secondary like ours. Having TO, Braylon, Holmes, Cotch, and Keller is sick depth and the opposing secondary will be completely winded by the 3rd quarter. Imagine rotating between TO and Braylon in 3 WR sets and keeping fresh legs on them both. Then BE in a 3 WR set with Cotch, Keller, and Holmes. Its ridiculously tough to defend. Keep Clowney for depth on the PS if necessary or use him for punt/kick returns. He's definitely got the speed and the Jets won't have to put our new #1 draft pick or "sticky hands" Cotch at risk in special team plays. You are talking about a the practicality of a 5 WR sets with either LT coming out of the backfield with TO or Holmes on the sidelines or 5 WR's at the line (inlcuding Keller). Fucking insane.
Is Terrell Owens set to be the next cast member of the Jets’ Hard Knocks lineup? According to league source, the Jets have reached out to Owens, a 36-year-old former All-Pro receiver and divisive figure, in an exploratory manner similar to the generic talks with JaMarcus Russell's representatives, which were in June. The source said the Jets' expectations for signing Owens, who has played with the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys and Bills, are "very minimal." Owens, currently appearing on a VH1 reality show ("The T.O. Show"), has suddenly found a market for his diminishing services after an offseason that seemed to show his opportunities drying up quickly. He played last season with the Buffalo Bills, hauling in 55 passes for 829 yard and five touchdowns. Scouts said he lost much of his separation speed that allowed him to serve as a star in Dallas and Philadelphia previously. If Owens was acquired, he would be considered a supplemental piece to a receiving corps that already includes former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, deep-ball threat Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Crotchery and Dustin Keller, who many consider on the cusp of having a breakout season. - With Manish Mehta Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/jets/2010/07/jets-reach-out-to-free-agent-w.html#ixzz0uuE79Fpg Tanny, Don't get my hopes up man. I want him to get his ring and put a stamp on a wonderful career. One of my all time favorites. I believe the Jets can help get him that ring. I mean 5 WR sets. who's guarding who after Braylon and santonio line up wide. T.O in the slot....then you have cotch and keller. Pull the trigger Tanny. Pull the trigger!
That's fair to move on and discuss LT, but it's not fair to be a revisionist of history in regards to TJ. It's also not fair to claim TJ was a product of playing behind our OL when he produced at a high level before he got here.
No, he's not. C'mon, man. That's about 24 catches a season...that's a very low number. If you look at those numbers year-by-year, it looks even worse. With a rookie quarterback, who desperately needed a check down option, Jones had 10 receptions.
Owens/Edwards/Holmes/Cotchery/Keller/Smith would be a defense's worst nightmare for centuries. Luckily and thankfully - all but ours. This would be a receiving corps that might not ever be seen again in history due to this uncapped year. The biggest advantage we have to other teams (not named the Saints) is that TO needs the Jets, not the other way around. I can't see him being anything but humble and gracious to be part of something that would instantly almost trump the Miami Heat's "Big Me - er, Big 3". And does anyone honestly believe he even has a CHANCE to be a malcontent or outspoken in the locker room when it's Rex and the D's show? The offensive, no matter how much star power they have, is just the side show to the whole operation. We are the team who is barking the loudest right now - is there anyone who barks louder than TO in the NFL? (Besides Ochocinco?) And when you go all-in...you can NEVER have enough chips. This team is already so stacked on both sides of the ball, I had to stop and think if TO would even be amongst my top 20 players on the Jets. In no particular order: Revis Mangold Cromartie Holmes Edwards Harris Keller Scott Sanchez Greene LT Ferguson Jenkins Woody Moore Ellis Leonhard Pace Richardson Taylor Thomas....nope. In terms of talent/role/expectations, it'd be debatable at the very least. I'd have him above The Ghost and Vlad (b/c he's a rookie) is all I could say for certain. I think it's insane to think (or not think) about a Jets team where a Terrell Owens isn't even in its' top 20 best players.
Santonio has never been a locker room problem. His problems are at night when he's at a bar trashed. No one on the steelers complained about him.
He's not Brian Westbrook, but he's good out of the backfield. He only had 10 receptions last year, but had over 30 in each of the previous two seasons and that's WITH Leon Washington on the team.
