Everything said about T.O. is true and I also don't think he'd be a good fit for the Jets. But I also think he's been humbled the past year or so now that he realizes it isn't all about him. I wouldn't put a gun in my mouth if he came to NY. There are enough strong vets on the team to keep him from being a cancer in the locker room.
T.O. was an average at best NFL WR last year and has been in an obvious decline for a couple of years now. He would probably be an upgrade over Clowney but what is that really saying? At 36 years old, that decline will only get steeper. He's almost certainly not getting any better at this point.
This is real easy. No. Having a surplus of Edwards-Holmes-Jerrico-TO-and-Keller might look sexy "numbers-wise" on paper. But "numbers-wise" esp. BLOCKING WISE (Slauson/Vlad) do you want to put a 2nd year QB who had the coaching staff dialing-it-down in his rookie year to manage a "run-oriented" offense--while still throwing a slew of INTS--suddenly being charged to direct a pass-happy offense just because they grabbed a WR at the tail end of his career??? Let's look at fairly recent history: that Colt QB who beat us in the AFC Championship game, an NFL 1st pick in the draft (Peyton Manning, eventually groomed to become arguably the best QB in the NFL), has the following on his resume: he lost to the Jets 0-41 in a playoff game. Oh and about his "liquored-up-kicker"?? ...record-setting kicker Mike Vanderjagt had nothing to do with Peyton's goose egg vs. Gang Green. Fact. That Vanderjagt ran his mouth well after the fact doesn't escape the fact that Manning (as a kid in a playoff game vs. the Jets) was in over his head. Colt offense: 0 points. Again, fact. So why put Sanchez in that same position? IMHO, give the "traded-for-#5"-pick (Sanchez) time to develop. Remember that to being with, Manning had a ton more experience on the collegiate level than Sanchez did which helped push Peyton upstairs to his #1 draft-pick position. In the case of the NYJ, I think the Jets have more than enough "reached" on the offensive end for additional downfield explosiveness (esp. grabbing Holmes on the cheap), but force-feeding T.O. into the offense would imho be putting too much on Sanchez' plate.....and T.O.'s lack of action bitching imho wouldn't be too far behind....think about it: at this end-of-the-road stage of his career, what's not to stop T.O. from some "what the hell do I have to lose at this stage of the game?" type of a tantrum?..... a headache that nobody (esp. on a team that's added so many new bodies) would need at this point. Our QB doesn't need a cluttered chaulkboard. Again, jmho. Let's concern ourselves with all the other "newly-added" components meshing...on the field and inside the locker room. Our opening first six weeks will present a difficult enough challenge. We're a Rex Ryan-coached team. Let's concern ourselves with addressing the need to kill the OTHER QB's starting off the season (Ravens, NE, Mia, Minn, Buffalo, Denver-on-the-road, Green Bay, etc.). Best, Mike Vanderjagt ;-)
That's brilliant. Him and T.O. would really help our passing game. And if we can convince Jerry Rice to unretire we'll be totally stacked. This way when Shonn Greene gets hurt in week 1 and we have to abandon the run we can go seven wide (we're gonna go to three linemen but it shouldn't affect us).
I'm not saying I don't agree with you because I think he is on the decline but having Trent Edwards as your QB will only speed up that process.
this would be a great plan if sanchez was anywhere near manning's level. even if sanchez makes a giant leap this year he still won't be anywhere near manning. of course it would be great to just beat the colts at their own game but their qb is the best in the game and ours is just trying to find his way to consistency
to be honest/fair Buffalo's QB's sucked, and the OLine didnt help the QB's at all either. But TO doesnt make sense. If we were to bring in a WR for 4 games while Holmes is gone it'd make more sense to bring in L. Coles. Honestly just let Brad Smith play, or McKnight as WR.
He had issues early in his career and has seemed to pick that bad habit back up the past 2 seasons. He has also lost a step or two and will only continue to get slower. Dude is a fading star with an attitude problem. Is it really any surprise he still hasn't found a home? Of course Buffalo's QB's sucked. That doesn't change the fact that T.O. has been declining over the past two seasons and will likely continue down that slippery slope.
Sign him and if he causes problems kick him out. Theirs no cap this year so its not like signing him would affect our cap.
I was thinking the same thing. However, I don't think its a good fit. If Hantonio Solmes wasn't a part of this offense already, I would probably go for it.
