Jake Gyllenhaal is Joe Namath in a Universal Picture Jake Gyllenhaal is Joe Namath in Universal Pic Source: Variety November 28, 2007 Universal Pictures will turn the life of Joe Namath into a feature film, with Jake Gyllenhaal playing the Hall of Fame quarterback. According to Variety, David Hollander will write the script once the writers strike is over. Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar will produce. Jimmy Walsh, who runs Namanco Productions, executive produces. Walsh said he and Namath OK'd the movie after a long pursuit by Lazar, a strong take by Hollander and the belief that the athletic Gyllenhaal was the right actor to play him. While other quarterbacks racked up bigger lifetime stats, Namath became the first football player to achieve rock-star status. The movie will tell the story of how the golden-armed kid from Beaver Falls, Pa., became Broadway Joe, the New York Jets quarterback who became a '60s cultural figure.
...it's spelled correctly in the title of the thread. Ahh, I don't like the fact that a Pats fan is playing Broadway Joe.
Here a link with more info . . . http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3131759 Gillenhall is a good choice. He's 6', so they may lift him to Joe's 6'2", and he's a good actor. This is going to be f'n cool.
Nice! This should come out right around the time that the J-E-T-S are making their run for the god damn Superbowl.
Yes, it will take the focus from the team -- so we can work on winning the SB. Phew. Hollywood to the rescue!
I heard about this a while back, but at the time it was expected to be an independent picture that wouldn't make it to theaters... I can't wait for this....
you guys cant support this crap. first off, hes a pats fan so he has no soul. second, hes a brokeback gay cowboy, third, hes a joke of an actor. this is a disgrace to the legacy of joe namath
I can't wait.. wonder how long it'll take to produce. I heard his book's good but I haven't read it yet. Hopefully I'll get around to reading it before I see the movie bout him. First off, yeah that kinda sucks; second, who cares; third, no not really.
might have been a little harsh on his abilities but i mean come on broadway joe deserves better than the bubble boy
Good choice, he can pull off Namath. I wonder what other actors were considered for the role. And who's going to play Maynard and Bear Bryant It would be cool to see great 60's AFL football re-created on the big screen. Will they be filming scenes at Shea?
