hopefully we can finish this up...the season will start tomorrow even if the back up draft isn't finished...everyone get your team bio's ready...
Oh yes, as for team bio's, how long should they be? Are we making a list of weaknesses and strengths? A paragraph description? Or an indepth thesis?
Yes, I would like to know how much info we should put on our bios. Also, are the bios going to go in a new thread?
No picks have been made since last night? I've been gone all day and expected when I signed on right now that I'd be up.
I'm not doing my bio until after my last pick is made. MSUJet85 has been on the clock since 8:15 last night. That's been what, 12.25 hours of draft clock time now. I think you can safely pick, JetGreen.
If the season is actually going to start on Sunday (well right now is Sunday already) then this will suck and people will be scrambling to get their bios completed. My offensive philosophy cannot properly be explained until I make my final pick. If certain people fail to show again, I may not be able to make my pick tomorrow, which in turn would mean certain people behind me won't be able to pick.
One week extension...I really hope we can get this done and get me your team bios. As for the bios...put as much information as you want...basically this will be added into the game thread so people can read what you are putting on the field.
I have a question about the backup players. What happens when Murrell2878 faces a team with three wide receivers such as DonnieIsTheKing? With that particular game, it's possible Donnie's team would score at will on Murrell's team (because Murrell only has two cornerbacks). If I didn't think Murrell's team could score on Donnie's team, I'd have to vote for Donnie. What I am driving at here is what is the deal with the backup players? It almost seems that we should have done one of two things- continued drafting to make full squads or stopped after we drafted starters. If we don't explain what the purpose of the backups are people might look at this stuff and think certain people's teams will get smoked, not necessarily based on player ability, but based on significant matchup problems. Donnie wrote that he's going to have 3-WR sets. Or is that not allowed? Like if he wants to put in Rod Smith, must he take out Hirsch or Tim Brown? With my team I'd like to run some two tight end plays. But can I do that here? Or if I played Charlie Sanders would I have to remove Jackie Smith? I would also like to use some T-formation with my team (all 3 RBs would be on the field; Johnson behind Staubach with the other two RBs on each side of him). I had the T info in my team bio, but removed it this morning, since I don't know if it is allowed. Any thoughts?
We could treat this like a Madden video game and nobody suffers fatigue. I don't know where the backups would come into the picture, though. Toss the backups aside for a moment. There are two teams that start off with a nice advantage. I have Marshall Faulk who can line up as a wide receiver. Murrell2878 has Gale Sayers. I'm not sure if Sayers lined up much as a wideout, but his skill set was similar to Faulk and Lenny Moore and Reggie Bush, so he could probably do it. After that, the other 18 RBs drafted as starters are in the backfield all the way. The problem with the Murrell team, however, is that his other starting back is Lorenzo Neal. So putting Sayers out wide would be telling the defense, "this play is highly likely to be a pass." With my team I can put Faulk wide and with Johnson in the backfield, there is still a threat of the run. If the idea is that we can use our backups any which way we like (Donnie can play all 3 WRs at one time, I can use all three RBs in the same play, etc.), then I find it to be foolish that certain people didn't pick cornerbacks. So that's why I'm confused here. Picking a cornerback in the backup portion of the draft probably should have been a no-brainer. Whatever happens, this was a good idea and aside from a couple picks, the selections were good. However, I think this could be done even better in a future year. I don't see why we can't do this again in 2007 or 2008 and draft full squads. Then we could get into real football chalk talk. If we did do this again, my suggestion would be this- draft starters the same exact way and to facilitate fast selections of backups- do two rounds a night at a designated time (say 9pm). An order would be in place and you'd get five minutes to pick (if somebody is sloppy and the other people are on the ball, it's going to be like the Vikings on draft day a couple years ago). If somebody doesn't show, then he can make his two picks later that night or the next day (he'd get the 19th and 20th picks that night). Then we'd meet again the next night at the same time. We're only talking about another week and a half. We wouldn't need to go as far as 53 players. We'd only go with 45 or 47 man rosters (whatever the exact number is for active players on gameday). That way we're not sitting around 6 hours waiting for somebody to make his 43rd round selection. Hell, we probably could do this now. Problem is I wouldn't have taken Jurgensen in round 1 of the backup draft. I would have waited a lot longer for my backup QB and I bet others would have, as well. But, this all came about when I noticed Murrell only has two corners and I noticed there are two very versatile RBs who would cause matchup problems which would be difficult to deal with without the use of full squads.
I would have liked to have gone with more picks but there were a few people that didn't. What we will basically do is you have a starting rotation. Backup will be used in "situations". So your team wouldn't have 3 WR's on every play. I will be posting the Gamecasts now. I will convert them to polls later tonight. but use the thread to post your team bios. One other thing we should talk about and would be put into the thread is your strategy against your opponent. How you will attack your opponent. You can't say negative stuff about your opponent. Discuss???
Okay, that is good then. We just have to get it out there to the voters that the backups are only for straight substitutions. Leroy Kelly comes into the game, then John Henry Johnson or Marshall Faulk must come out. Rod Smith enters the game- Elroy Hirsch or Tim Brown must come out. The attacking the opponent stuff (read: what scheme you have planned and where players will line up, etc.) may be a tad difficult without disparaging your opponent. Because to do that you'd want to say, "we'll attack his right cornerback because we feel they are weak at that spot blah blah blah" or something like that. That will have to be tactfully done. (You know I'm going with the Faulk at receiver angle for every game.) I can't wait to see some of these, such as the Brown and Campbell in the same backfield one. One ran from the I and the other from split-back formation, so I don't know what would happen there. Brown didn't block much and I don't think Campbell did either. Should be interesting.
well...I think what I meant was you could use 3 WR's if you wanted to for certain situations. Just not in the (My opponent has only 2 CB's so I will use 3 WR's all game) For example I will spread Gale Sayers out into the slot and take Neal out and put Curtis in the backfield.
Question- Can we post commentary from other sites? Last night I posted the rosters of each team at a Yahoo fantasy baseball league message board. I did not say what team was mine. I listed teams' names by the first player drafted (Team Taylor, Team Unitas, etc.). I was looking for some responses as to who people thought drafted the best and stuff. So far one person responded and he made some comments. Can I post that here?
Okay, here it is. The below Yahoo post has not been doctored in any way. I would provide a link but all you'd get is a message like this, "You are not in this league." I don't know how he knew I had Team Rice. Only thing I could figure is I may have made pro-Warfield comments somewhere. I have played in fantasy football leagues with this guy since 2004 and occasionally we talk about old players. **** Tiger, the alltimers draft.... by: Folsum Prison Blues (theshow777) Jun 12 7:43am Well i do not have the time to rank all the teams 1-10 but i did scan the lists and make a few notes.... first of all your team is team Rice. solid picks...love the rice and warfield wr combo...faulk is a triple threat unstoppable back...lb's are insanely good...not a huge staubach fan, but he could certainly win with that team. I like team unitas star power but the kieth brooking pick is laughable in my opinion. I also liked team taylor, but he seems to be a rams fan like myself with holt, dickerson and wilkins...who can argue with his stars, but the Fridge on defense was more of a novelty than hall of famer. And team sanders was solid as well, but what's up with the Lofton Stallworth wr combo...i mean you got so many great wr's out there why those two, ok i will give you lofton but stallworth? heck i can take guys from today, TO, isaac bruce, moss to name a few. other picks i did not like from various teams were jim kelly, m.allstott(overrated), mark gastineau, and the aforementioned horrible brooking pick. i did not see farve on the list though i did see starr and jim kelly?? come on! maybe i just missed seeing farve. i didnt see jack youngblood on there either...what's up with that? yet brooking and fridge was on there.(?) interesting stuff as usual there tiger... dang is it football season yet!?
