No, I'm delecting. Let's not talk about the current UNC scandal--let's talk about some guy from Duke taking jewelry or what freebies players got up at Syracuse. Or Jo Pa. Anything but...you know...the current story. _
I read just fine--it's obvious what you are doing. Don't think you are fooling anyone--any mention of any other sports scandal right now in defense of UNC is pure deflection. Again--I'm not giddy about it--not like Joe or the Dookie--but this is incredibly weak. _
I am not deflecting anything, just asking questions. as of now there is nothing to this story, it's a loon who has an axe to grind going after UNC. when there is actual evidence I will change my tune but as of now there is nothing to this story. show me some evidence, not some quite from McCants or Willingham. some actual evidence. in the PSU case there was actual evidence.
Again--and I have no idea--but is UNC denying that he never had a semester of straight A's and never made the Dean's List? Honest question. That should be pretty easy for UNC to prove and seeing as I saw screen shots of the straight A's and Dean's List--I would think if it's not true they'd combat it pretty quickly. Not talking about the paper writing, the tutors, the no-classes. The actual grades and Dean's List. _
Now, now maybe he's just one of those guys who is overall really dumb but REALLY good at certain subjects.. We are all better at some things than others. He just needed to find out what he is good at. I find this more plausible than thinking it was a sham major even though he himself disagrees, a university official disagrees, and others at the same school benefitted from a similar fraudulent academic system.
I don't think the dean's list has been confirmed. do I think they may have taken easier classes? sure, that is available to all students. do I think Roy was in on it to make sure Rashad was eligible and didn't look out for Rashad's best interests? not for a second. he's proven he would suspend key players in a heartbeat before. if you really care about this subject go check on line what Rashad and his father were saying about Roy a few years ago when they realized no one wanted Rashad in the NBA despite his talents. To me this is a case of a guy passing the blame, if that is proven incorrect I will say so and I will have a hard time rooting for the program but until I see real proof I will defend them especially knowing some of the things I know.
But if others at the same school benefitted from a similar fraudulent academic system, wouldn't they be rushing to come forward to back him up? Oh wait. _
How can you have straight A's--FIVE of them--and NOT make Dean's List. That is one tough academic school. Guess you need a 5.0 to make it? _
oh so you think this has happened forever and just 1 player in all those years is "brave" enough to step forward? I haven't seen that info confirmed anywhere.
when I see proof I will change my mind, so far Willingham's info has been debunked and rashad is rashad. we'll see what happens.
So when you say "debunked", an investigation led by UNC-hired investigators determined that she was flat out wrong is qualified as "debunking"? And that McCants confirmed her reports is just "rashad being rashad"? Sounds legit. _
You know what, you're right--no such transcript exists. "A copy of McCants' university transcript, labeled "unofficial" and obtained by "Outside the Lines," shows that in his non-African-American Studies classes, McCants received six C's, one D and three F's. In his African-American Studies classes, 10 of his grades were A's, six B's, one a C and one a D. The UNC registrar's office declined to send McCants an official, signed transcript because of a May 2005 hold on its release. According to the UNC athletic department, McCants had university property that had never been returned. A second copy of his transcript obtained from a different source by "Outside the Lines" is identical to the first and is also not signed by the registrar but does not contain the label "unofficial." http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...ll-star-rashad-mccants-says-took-sham-classes Sounds totally illegitimate. _
Is it too late to take my lumps over the Mercer game so that I'm free to participate here now? I don't make a habit of disappearing when things are down, and don't want to develop that rep. I don't believe I was posting AT ALL - good or bad - during last basketball season. So, for the record, I was very much upset by Duke losing in the 1st round, and rest assured, while I didn't post, I was definitely lurking and I read every meanspirited junc and miano celebratory post. I may have even shed a tear. Better?
Of course--that's what adult fans do--we bust balls. Unmercifully. Anyone who thinks their program is clean is either a naive fool or an unabashed apologist--and I'm not sure which I'd prefer less to be viewed as--even to strangers on the internet. _
Apparently it's ok for a certain segment of the board to be mean-spirited, but turn the tables and watch out _
I harbor no illusions about my program - in fact I have posted IN THIS THREAD first hand accounts of my time at Duke, taking "Intro to Jazz" with Jason Williams and Chris Duhon and taking a freshman writing seminar with Carlos Boozer in which the topic was "History and Issues of American Sport" (lol, my final presentation was on the history of the Jets). But I think we all (less junc) would agree that what UNC seems to have been up to for years with AFAM is something much more sinister than simply funneling athletes through the "easy" courses and "easy" majors.
