Classic example of the team where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. I mean, how else do you explain a team that does not have a single player over 6'8" being fourteenth in the nation in rebounding? Look, as much as I criticize Jay Wright for being unable to recruit big players and actually coach them, he makes things work with a smaller team. Unfortunately, I can't see how you can win a national title without that big man up front.
it must be nice getting to see Carolina and duke in the dome rather than all those boring BE teams:grin:
Ah, so besides the front-running "Mr. Dallas Cowboy Fan" of TGG schstick, you're now going to go THERE?... Ok, well when Tobacco Road University visits Penn St. North, P.J. Hairston's probably driving so maybe you can catch a ride with him. Bring rolling papers. Oh, and sunglasses....Syracuse is lovely this time of year. "Bernie's in love with me and 'I FEEEL FINE' !" And didn't extend over to the basketball team?.....yep....tell that to UNC's Mary "no show class" Willingham. _
it was a football issue, the basketball team was not found to do anything wrong and you really don't want to bring up academics if you are a SU fan. If I was a dallas cowboy fan type I would have stopped rooting for the Heels in down years:grin: the easy thing to do would have been to become a St. John's, SU or GU fan but thankfully I didn't become a fan of boring BE basketball.
There was nothing wrong with Big East basketball back in the day-always some of the physically toughest BBall you'd want to see and very exciting, the opposite of boring. But it outlived its usefulness as a dual sport conference and it was time. _
some great programs but too many teams and I disliked the style of play. I wish it didn't break up though.
Wow, you totally lost what should've been as plain as the "front-running" nose on your face.....front-running nose.....I kill myself!!... They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well if the pix in my post above (not to mention the kid's "Fab Four" number and lyrical reference) wasn't obvious enough and instead had you wondering "if you are a SU fan" not to mention the fact that SU's no longer in the Big East (and it was your uppity Big East shot that I was referring to in the 1st place), then I'm afraid you whiffed on a several levels here. You are more a front-runner that any "Dallas Cowboys Fan" The "down years?" ....North Carolina?? Those front-runner Cowboy fans endured a 14-year playoff drought. North Carolina over the past HALF CENTURY had THREE losing seasons ('61-62, '63-64, '01-02) THREE. Save that average fan bullshit for your Tobacco Road ACC brethern. You sound just like Billy Tubbs. Remember Billy Tubbs, that greasy used car salesman of a coach? The one who'd run up the score keeping a full court press in place with a 30 point lead inside of 2 minutes? Yeah, he used to say the same thing about BE basketball....that is whenever he wasn't taking one of his 27-5 teams and losing in the 1st or 2nd round of the NCAA's/NIT. Ever attend a BE final? How about the '85 Georgetown-St.Johns BE final at MSG (Ewing, Jackson, Floyd vs. Mullin et al)? Probably not. New York City, MSG, electric, media, .....well maybe not "Greensboro Colosium" electricity but.... BORING? NORTH CAROLINA was responsible for the installation of the shot clock in order to outlaw their boring "Four Corners" offense, a veritable STALL that defrauded the ticket-paying and TV-viewing public. The four corners was the ultimate in boring basketball. Another front-running whiff. The "down years?" ..... "boring?" ......"four corners?" ...... Once again, save that "average fan" bs of yours for your A.C.C. brethren.
Nothing like the Big East tourney at the Garden. Sadly this will probably be the first one I'll miss in about 10 years. I was at the second Big East Tournament up in the Carrier Dome in 1981 and I liked the thought of it moving from town to town, but after a few years at the Garden I realized what a stroke of genius that was and how it added to the tournament's excitement level. I'm going to miss is. _
how soon we forget 8-20, Matt Doherty, 2 straight non NCAA years. it's not like being a Jet fan but there have been down years especially this Century. Under Dean a down year meant 20 wins and a sweet 16 app. I remember Billy Tubbs when Rick Fox took that pass and scored in the last 2nd and 8th seeded UNC stunned top seeded OU in the 1990 NCAA Tourney. Thank you for bringing up good memories. The 4 corners was an innovation to the game, one of the numerous dean Smith is responsible for and when they instituted the shot clock he adjusted and kept winning. BE basketball has turned into thug ball, it's guys mugging each other and a big reason the BE struggled so often come Tourney time b/c they were allowed to get away w/ that stuff in BE play but not come Tourney time. In recent years the BE has fared much better in March but nowhere near the success of the ACC. who is your team?
"How soon we forget 8-20, Matt Doherty?" What disengenuous bullshit--I explicitly listed the '01-02 year, so where the hell do you get off inferring that that year was "forgotten?" Two straight non-NCAA years? More disengenuous bullshit. At least own your "down years" comment particularly when you had the audacity, the gall to suggest that you stuck with UNC "through thick and thin"....when in fact all you've done above is either ignore or self-servingly spin facts that were/are staring you right in the face, among them: - THREE losing seasons in 52 years. - Calling the Big East and it's tenacious defensive brand of ball "boring" while championing what was essentially a STALL. frente + corredor + toro + mierda - i've won; i'm out -
you mentioned 3 losing seasons, a bad season isn't a losing season in CBB. It's very rare for big time programs or even mediocre ones to have losing seasons. Why exactly does this bother you so much? do you think I am a guy who hops on and off a bandwagon? I think the fact I stick w/ the Jets through anything should throw those questions out the window. as for Carolina, my childhood never saw a non 20+ win season(when they used to mean something) but when Dean retired the program started heading downhill despite 2 FFs in 3 years. In 1998 the heels had by far the best team in the Country and couldn't win it all, 1st rd exit in '99, barely making the Tourney before making a shocking FF run in '00, 2nd rd exit in '01, 8-20 in '02, NIT in '03, 2nd rd in '04. Those are DOWN years, sorry to break that to you. You can call it tenacious defense all you want, it's legal hacking and boring to watch. The 4 corners was boring too but the brand of basketball was and is how the game is meant to be played. You've won what? what is there to win? and yet still no mention of your team.
The Big East was the opposite of boring, year in and year out the most exciting brand of college basketball in the country. Universally acknowledged, there is no reason to argue the point. _
Universally acknowledge by who? the NY media? the BE was boring as could be w/ half the conference being terrible and the top half beating up on a weak bottom half. Where there great games and teams? of course but that doesn't take away from the fact it was a mediocre conference for most of the last 20 years and was wrongfully hyped up b/c it was located in top media markets.
