Bowles is definitely inexperienced and over his head, but he'll fail here and then go and DC for another team well (he was DC in AZ for 2 years, if it matters). And probably be successful in his second attempt. Meanwhile neither O'Brien nor Payton would have even looked at a shit team like the Jets this year. They just wouldn't subject themselves to this garbage organization.

Fool yourself all you want, but this would be one of the worst destinations for any coach with experience.

Woody may be stupid, but he's figured that part out with his own experience.

Absolutely, I'm not disputing that. Money can talk in some cases, but you're likely right in that this is one of the last destinations any coach would want to come.

The shame in it all is that this probably looked like somewhat of a solid landing spot after Rex & Idzik were fired. Tons of cap space, a high draft pick and all that jazz. Now we're easily in one of the worst positions in the NFL with about a million in cap space.

Coaches and GM's probably look at the Browns and Jaguars as better spots based on the cap space and low expectations.

Are you blaming Charlie Casserly and Ron Wolf? Or Woody for hiring them? I can't remember hearing a veteran coach being associated with the Jets hiring search before they hired Bowles.

I also don't remember hearing a veteran head coach expressing interest in the job since Woody Johnson bought the team.

    Heres an idea:

Woody rents out MetLife to some Hollywood Producers for "Final Destination #6" and have some 20 year olds trying to escape the stadium when in the middle of a Jet game we are losing and the place gets hit by lightening setting a few fans on fire and causing the light scaffolds to break decapitating some girl ...Cheerleaders get run around and shriek at the horror...some guy with glasses and a white Jets hat (one of the janitors) wants to kill everybody...ahaha

After movie achieves Cult status who wouldn't want to coach at some place famous???

Hm, not sure who to blame at this point. Have we just not been interviewing these guys or have veteran head coaches been blatantly denying the interviews? I know Kubiak declined an interview with us.

But it sounds about right that we've barely even interviewed veteran head coaches since Woody has taken over.

Bill O'B would not settle on a OC job when he could be a HC.

McCoy is my first realistic choice

Marrone is the only one I can think of, when he opted out of his contract with the Bills.

Bill O'Brien would be my pick but to be quite honest, now that the Texans will be playing a Carr-less Raiders, they actually may pull off a win. There was rumor going around that O'Brien would be fired if he did not make it out of the first round of the playoffs.

According to the Star Ledger, if Sporting News' Alex Marvez is correct, Vance Joseph will be the new HC in Denver and Mike McCoy will be the OC. Also according to the Star Ledger, Kyle Shanahan wants the HC job in Denver.

If Joseph/McCoy go to Denver, maybe Shanahan would consider coming to the Jets for a huge raise, but I doubt if Atlanta would let us talk to him. I'm hoping Shanahan will get the HC job, and we can hire McCoy here.

Whisenhunt is going to be the Offensive Coordinator as soon as San Diego let's him out of his contract after they find a Head Coach unless the new HC wants to keep him.

You're probably right. I think he's pretty conservative, and that should mesh well with Bowles. At least we know he'll make use of and value the TE position.

    Love his resume

    Former Head Coach
Coached the Jets for a year with Bowles.
OC for Super Bowl Champion Steelers
Took Cardinals to Super Bowl as Head Coach and almost won if not for Holmes and his toe touch
Coordinated a very good Chargers offense
Understands how to get the most out of his QBs.
Worked with Big Ben, Kurt Warner and Philip Rivers.

Coached the TEs for the Jets for a year with Groh, not Bowles.

Here's the link to his coaching record: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/WhisKe0.htm#coaching_history::none

With San Diego, I have to wonder if the offense is McCoys, and if Whisenhunt was just calling plays.

Bowles was the Secondary Coach in 2000.

    Here's the plan

    Cut all dead wood
    Reserve Cap space
    Tank in 2017
    Get a high pick
    Franchise QB (Darnold?)
$70m in cap space for 2018
    Fire Bowles ...Mac if necessary

    Coaches will come here

Never happen, nor should it, at least the part about saving all the cap space for 2018 and tanking in 2017. At a minimum, they are going to have to spend some of that money on the OL and TE for next season to protect whoever the QB is. Since Bowles is probably on the hot seat, I can't see him tanking, so they will probably look to add a CB and quite possibly a FS as well. They may even look to upgrade the RG position or bring in competition for Shell at RT and bring in another OLB to bolster the pass rush.
