This is also correct. Sanchez was crafty enough to escape quite often. For a while I was even concerned that Sanchez might get injured. But I was freaking amazed at how well he did with that, being a rookie and all. And there were many times when he did get knocked over backwards but got the ball off at the last second, sometimes throwing off balance and every other way. No sacks, true, but I'm not handing out game balls to the O-line over that either. A lot of that sack-avoidance was Sanchez.
I agree a lot of that is on Sanchez, but the O-line gave him nicely formed pockets to step into much of the time. He reminds me of Drew Brees the way he slides and still sets to make the throw, terific footwork in the pocket.
Well, you could be right on this and of course, Sanchez will get stacked up on until he earns the respect, as you say. But I also think we can turn this page sooner now than we all expected. In other words, Sanchez proved on Sunday that he can deal with the stacking situations and run-stuffing and make something positive of it. So now Schotty, after seeing this surprising quality in Sanchez that NONE of us could have imagined so early on, needs to be ready to gameplan against this technique as early as this Sunday. Want to stack the box and blitz Belichick? Fine, let Sanchez quickly flick it out to Washington or Keller and make his fairy little ass pay. You'll quckly find them not stacking so much then. But Belichick knows all that and will probably come up with some other cockamaie twist somewhere. Bottom line is, the O-line HAS TO open running lanes this Sunday. This will be a high scoring game and we're going to need more than 24 points to beat NE. The only other way to do it is to control the clock and grind it down. If Brady isn't on the field, his faggot little ass can't score.
I mostly agree. It seems that Schotty should be comfortable with Sanchez passing to setup the running attack. I don't know why you're so sure we'll need more than 24 to beat the Pats. If we can pressure Brady like we did Schaub I wouldn't expect them to score a whole lot.
I only base this on the fact that this is Tom Brady with Randy Moss and Weasely Welker on the field and not Schaub. Brady finds a way to keep it going, just look at last night's last 5 minutes. So no, I'm never comfortable with any lead we could have over NE, just part of my extreme Jets fan insecurity, I suppose. But as I say, no matter what the score, if Brady isn't on the field, the little faggot can't score, so we need to get on top of them and then run, run, run and kill the clock. Keeping our DEF fresh that way will also help keep Brady off the field. Tony Richardson will be a big help this week. We need to spell TJ, get the ball to Leon on the outside and even give Greene a shot or two. KILL THE LITTLE WEASEL!
The O-line played well, the pressure that is being talked about was due to the fact that the texans ran some heavy blitzes and were rushing more guys than the jets had blocking, in those cases sanchez did a good job avoiding pressure and extending the plays. The real way to judge an o-line on pass protection is if they get beat one on one and that didn't happen. Yeah the running game struggled, but hey they got it going in the end and got big plays when they need too. This week we should be able to see if this o-line has really taken the next step to being elite against a big physical patriot front. I would give leon a lot of touches since the patriots front 7 is slow especially without mayo.
I wouldn't be surprised if they put up over 24, I'm just not going to sit here and think we definitely need more than 24 to win. I wouldn't be surprised if we held them under 20 either. The Pats offense really didn't get going last night until the Bills stopped pressuring Brady and sat back in coverage. I don't think Rex would even begin to think about doing that bs.
I won't disagree with that. I think what Wahoo was saying is that our O-line has been receiving praise all along and maybe it's time for them to be as "elite" as the label that's being tossed about to describe them. The pass protection was very good but the running lanes were non-existant. A lot of that was becasue of more people than can be handled, but 1 YPC in the first half is not exactly the "run first" team that Ryan previously said it would be.
You're absolutely right on that, WSW. The Bills coach even said after the game that while he was proud of his team for playing 60 minutes, you also "have to finish." I found that statement a bit confusing and disingenuous. But I also think, as far as coaching goes, that the Bills got into a prevent defense kind of mindset and played not to lose in teh last 5 minutes. And Brady, ever the shark in bloody waters, smelled that and went for it all. It's the Bills fault... that game was theirs and they let up, period. So yeah, I agree with you... I don't see Ryan doing what the Bills did last night, not pressuring and hoping for the best. It'll be balls to the wall if we're in that situation. KILL THE LITTLE WEASEL!
I'm rewatching the game to get a better idea how it played out. We lined up with an offset line 5 times in the first half.Generally Woody lining up as left left tackle. We ran out of it three times, passed it once and ran seminole once from it.I do wonder why we are running a gimicky line when we were so good at running it last year. Although I also have to give credit to the texans DTs,especially 91 Amobi Okoye who absorbed a few double teams and disrupted things.
Man, I couldn't even tell the oxygen lines were busted. I hope they get them fixed for the home opener.
I'm guessing the gimicky stuff is just Schotty's schtick. They didn't do the massive amounts of motion plays they did a few years ago so he has to get it out of his system with different formations.
Great Post!!! I especially liked the use of the three consecutive question marks, so much so, I co-opted and modified it for use with my exclamation points.
So some of you are pissed because: 1) Sanchez almost got sacked, and 2) TJ's breakaway runs came in the fourth quarter, not the first. Breathtaking.
Its sensitive, I agree that the line sucked, but then again its going off of what we saw in the pre season which was mostly running plays, obviously now that the pats know what kind of tool sanchez they are going to have to respect both parts of the offense. However, I was never really impressed with the pats pass rush (the whole D for that matter) last night, I thought they would be much better (they had some dumb penalties) but still, I think last season our line did a good job of holding up a patriots team that has not changed a ton on D, so I think we are pretty good
