Again no run support for Pettitte. Although his miscue on the stolen home base by Hill was inexcusable...But this offense has gone dead.

Marcum? McGowan? I'm stunned beyond belief.

The offense is the biggest reason why we suck. The pitching was the problem early b/c of health issues buit the pitching has been fine the past month while the bats have killed us.

Hideki matsui needs to be a full time DH or they have to trade him. He is KILLING us in LF as he had anoher huge misplay last night on the double that eventually gave Toronto the win. We never should have re-signed this guy 2 years ago but george needs his japanese money so it hurts the team in return.

^^ You could say the same thing about Damon this season. The outfield just sucks.

I think its time to consider using Rivera not as a closer but more as a fireman, the way they used to use the best reliever in the pre-LaRussa years. You just can't have one of your most talented guys never play.

I agree about Damon but at least he can't move b/c he's hurt while matsui isn't hurt he just misplays balls.

I wanted beltran a few years ago which would have meant no damon last year. I wanted to improve the CF defense, Damon improved our lineup but wasn't much of an upgrade defensively(though he could get to balls Brnie no longer could until this year) nd now our lineup stinks and Damon is playing worse than bernie ever did in CF.

Yeah i agree, it was a big mistake to re-sign matsui, he is a butcher in the outfield. He takes bad routes, throws to wrong bases.

Pettitte 3-4 with an ERA under 3...He must love this run support he gets.

He coulda stayed home in Houston with Roger and gotten that :)

BTW it's easy to criticize the Matsui re-signing now but I'd be willing to wager that if George knew about Matsuzaka now he might have let Matsui walk and wait a year and then get his Japanese Money. But I don't remember there being too much of a falling out when the Yanks resigned Hideki or when they signed No Legs Damon.

    You're absolutely right.

And I don't think Matsui is bad to have signed. However, he should be the DH, and I have been saying that almost as long as he's been here. If given the choice between Giambi at 1B, and Matsui in LF, I'll take Giambi @ first.

At this point though, Melky should be the full-time LF, Mienky should be the 1B, Matsui should be the DH, and Giambi should be warming the bench until he decides to let go of his no-trade clause.

And Matsui should NOT be hitting at the top of the lineup. I was wrong when I said he would thrive there.

My lineup card right now would read:

Cano 2B (Give him pitches to hit, and he can be consistent. He gets that with the top of the order backing him up. Not the bottom.)
    Mientkiewich 1B (Same as Cano.)
Jeter SS (Yes, Jeter in the 3 hole. He is the most consistent hitter on the team.)
Posada C (Why Posada and not ARod? The best hitting player in the AL gets the protection of ARod's bat with men on base. Nuff said.)
ARod 3B (He would suffer with the lack of protection behind him, but at least we'd score runs early.)
Matsui DH (He can still hit, albeit he's fallen off quite a bit. Less pressure lower in the lineup should help though.)
Cabrera LF (He'll come around. His few appearances lately have shown he get his timing when allowed to play. He'll hit about .270-.280, not terrible for your 7 guy.)
Abreu RF (Just until he can be dealt away. He's got nothing. No defense, no offense. This is a black hole in the lineup.)
Damon CF (Why Damon in the 9 hole? Because it makes him the second leadoff man, yet gives him 1-2 less ABs per game. It'll preserve his legs a tiny little bit. And if you get the chance to deal him, send him on his way.)

The whole lineup needs to be shaken up.

If Andy pitched the same way for the Mets in his 13 starts this year, he would be at least 10-3. He has given up more than 3 runs only ONCE this year in his starts. Ok, assuming some bad luck, at least 9-4, or 8-5.

I didn't want to start a new thread but, to all NYC residents, at Bryant Park tonight starting at 5:30 and ending when the game ends, they're "simulating" Yankee Stadium by playing tonight's game on a big screen, setting up concession stands. Also, Dave Winfield and Tino Martinez will be around signing autographs, kissing babies, and whatever else they do at these things.

damon, giambi, and abreu are the main culprits. throw in the fact that cano is playing poorly and has no fire, and it's a recipe for disaster.

only two guys that deserve credit are jeter and posada.

I give credit to Alex and Andy too. Andy has pitched extremely well, including last night.

ARod's been great too. He's been on base a lot, and has fought off the fact that there's no one behind him in the lineup as long as humanly possible.

There's only so much the 4 of them can do though.
