Sounds nice but the guy writing it is on crack. Just who are you going to trade any of these people to? Most have no trade clauses and won't go for starters. I guess you could just pay them the 100 million they are due and tell them to sit on the beach in Hawaii but I think if you do you still have to carry them on your roster. I do like the Giardi idea. This team need a pulse which he can provide. Stick is a no-brainer as who would replace Cashman. That's been known for years. Why I think Cashman might go is that they can use that to smooth the rumpled feathers of Rivera, Posada and Arod for not negotiating with them at the start of this year. That was all Cashman.
What a crap list of FA. The 2 best starting pitchers are both coming off major injuries (Colon, Garcia) If Mo goes, I really hope they go with Joba or even see if Humberto can take it. I sure as hell dont want Francisco Cordero here as he is in the Tom Gordon category. Joe Nathan is the only one that I would want but the Twins will probably pick up his option. Joe Kennedy is a name that sticks out for middle relief along with Linebrink otherwise that list sucks too. I think that they Yankees do make a run at Posada because there isnt much else out there. If somehow he does leave then I can see the Yankees bringing in I-Rod. Not for his offense but for his ability to handle a pitching staff and with several young arms that will be on the team next year he will help with bringing them to their potential. One guy I would like to see the Yankees take a run at if they let Giambi and Mienky go is Kevin Millar. He is one of those type of gritty players that always plays hard, isnt afraid to call out loafers and seems to be able to come through when it is most needed.
Yes but he isnt going anywhere. Despite his injury at the end of the year he did hit the ball well during the season. A LF/DH platoon of Damon and Matsui would work well. Also the amount of $$$$ that he generates from Japan offsets the contract anyways.
Sanchez won't be available next year either. At least not until after the AS break at the earliest. Besides, he's another starter with 100 mph heat. Wait a year and get Rodriquez when he's a FA.
Well here we go. Joe Torre and Alex Rodriguez aren't the only high-profile Yankees who might not be back in the Bronx next year. Closer Mariano Rivera, catcher Jorge Posada and left-hander Andy Pettitte are among the star free agents who might decide not to return next season. And Rivera indicated Monday night that he intends to test the market. Rivera, who has been a mainstay in the late innings for the Yankees since their storied run of four World Series titles in five years began in 1996, lobbied for an extension in spring training but was rebuffed. "They had the opportunities and they didn't do nothing with me," Rivera said, according to the Star-Ledger of Newark. "So we'll see what happens. ... This is a business. Nothing against the New York Yankees. "They figured it was the best for the team and I'm OK with it. ... We'll see what happens. But I would never hold anything against [the Yankees]." Posada said earlier this season that he would like to test the free-agent market, but Monday night he was non-committal on his future plans. "I'll talk about that later," Posada said, according to The New York Daily News. "We just lost a series. There's nothing to talk about, nothing to talk about Joe Torre, nothing to talk about right now." Ten days after the finish of the World Series, Rodriguez can opt out of the remaining three years of the 10-year, $250 million contract he signed with Texas in 2000. "One of the reasons I came here was to help this team win a world championship," Rodriguez said Monday night. "I have failed at that." Pettitte has a $16 million player option for next season. Like Posada, he wasn't ready to speculate on his future Monday night. "The biggest thing for me is just my family," he said, according to the Star-Ledger. "I have to get somewhere where I can talk to them about it and figure out what I'm going to do." Rivera, Pettitte and Posada are home-grown Yankees and have played for Torre throughout their careers -- although Pettitte spent three seasons in Houston as well. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner told the Bergen Record that if the Yankees didn't advance to the American League Championship Series this year, he likely would make a change of managers -- and that could also help the players decide if they want to return. Thanks for everything Mo. You were a great yankee and it will be a great day when you go into the HOF but Cashman was right not to give you an extension. Good luck to you wherever you wind up as long as its not Boston.
Pudge is off the market. DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers decided Ivan Rodriguez was worth another $13 million. Detroit exercised an option Tuesday on the All-Star catcher's contract, retaining him for a fifth season at a hefty price. The Tigers could have bought him out of the last year of his deal for $3 million, but they didn't like the prospect of not having Rodriguez behind the plate in 2008. Jorge is going to have BALLS of money thrown at him.
That's fine. Let him go. If anybody thinks he will hit .330 again in any other linuep or even in this one again then they deserved to get raped.
I'm really starting to feel naseous. 24 hours ago I was thinking we would be making a stop at the Jake on the way to Boston on Friday. Today I'm watching my entire team fall apart. George, for the love of God, please don't fire Joe or Cashman. Get all these great players back one more time with the kids. Just one more year. Please.
From an outsiders point of view and just for the record I've been pretty accurate of my assement of the Yankees this year. You guys need to get rid of some of the garbage on your roster, take one on the chin and rebuild. I know that word doesn't exist in the Bronx but suck it up next year and be average. With that young group of pitchers the Yankees are going to be set. Throw in Cano, Melky, Duncan and there already is a nucleas of good young players. Jeter has 5 years left of baseball and we know Jorge and Mo will be both be back. You are going to need a 1st baseman, that is one position where you guys have nothing. Alphabet Soup, Giambalco and Phillips are garbage. There really aren't any good FA's but that is a position where you guys severly lack talent. You might need to find a 3rd baseman, if Arod goes to the Cubs another postseason invisable but a great regular season guy Aramis Ramirez should b available. I'm not sure what you guys are gonna do with the OF, IMO Damon, and Matsui are guys who can do things but rarely do with the game on the line. They are old and falling apart and need to be replaced with younger more able parts. Your pitching will be fine, most of these guys took their lumps already and can contribute. Don't do anything drastic and you guys will be fine in 2-3 years.
Not that it matters but I find this amusing. Wasn't he also hit by Papelbon in the Boston bullpen? "This is why it was not going to be the Yankees' night: New York phenom Joba Chamblerlain was hit by a thrown ball during batting practice on his right triceps and immediately required treatment from trainers, who iced the muscle. Curiously, Chamberlain was not used during New York's 6-4 defeat, though a team source said he "probably" could have pitched in the game if called on."
And this should be no surprise. 5. Here's all you need to know about why the Yankees are 4-13 in their past 17 postseason games: In that stretch their starting pitchers are 2-8 with a 6.36 ERA while averaging 4 2/3 innings per start. Two wins from starting pitchers in 17 games, none in which they completed seven innings. The lack of pitchers who can give them length or the ability to strike out batters -- they averaged 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings -- has killed New York more than anything else.
While the pitching is definitely suspect, that's not a fair encapsulation of the problem. It's the same exact situation the Jets face. Yes, our defense is a problem, as is the Yankees' pitching. However, they both keep the team in the game. The real problem is that both teams leave points on the field on offense. Both offenses have tools that can be absolutely devastating when firing on all cylinders. (ARod, Abreu, Jeter, Damon and Jones, Leon, Coles and Cotch). But both go cold at the most inopportune moments, and that is what leads to the catastrophic collapses.
I'm sick of reading about Rivera's whining. He he wants to leave, go get the hell out of Dodge, I don't care. If he wants to go into the Hall as something else, fine. If he doesn't want his number retired at Yankee stadium or a plaque on the wall, better yet. Just shut the f**k up.
