Is this a hypothetical If? Do "the Jets" think of themselves as a playoff team? Who said that?

if the answer is no, then Cimini is just talking to himself, asking rhetorical Qs that have no bearing on the real world. Which is fine I guess, a man can do that, if he's willing to live with other people looking at him oddly.

But what I don't get is why championjets69 has asked us to waste our time listening to Cimini asking himself irrelevant rhetorical questions. What was the point of creating this thread? That someone somewhere in the world thinks that a 4-3 team is not a lock for the playoffs. Really? News flash! Let's post a new thread for EVERY person who wonders aloud about that!

I think the point is they are not playing like a playoff team, nor are they playing like a team vying to potentially tie the division at the season mid-point. We have seen our team in the playoffs in the past; this team does not resemble the teams that were there in the past including 2006 (that was a weak playoff team). If they think they are playing playoff caliber football, everyone on the team is in for a very rude awakening over the next 4 weeks.

No, I think Cimini's point was that the Jets are complacently deluded that they are a playoff team, and need to wake up, tht they are "living a lie" to use his exact words. And I question the fundamental premise of his argument, that this is really what they think of themselves, that they are playing well enough to make the playoffs.

Green Hornet, could you please tell me exactly WHICH Jet thinks/has said that "they think they are playing playoff caliber football" If you can't come up with a single name, then what does any of the have to do with reality?

If they're not "living this lie," then his whole piece is a waste of ink.

You're trying to connect reality to a champ thread, that's problem #1.

Um... what? Here, let's go back to your original comment:

You are attributing a 5 year setback to trading for Favre, 'catching lightning in a bottle'. I have conceded that they made mistakes addressing the QB situation. That's a no-brainer. But why is cutting Chad loose [this is the Chad that would probably be around another 2 years or so] and trading for Favre [who will probably retire after this season] going ot set us back any more? It's accelerating the issue if anything from what it was in the preseason.

I had hope for Clemens and Ratliff, but it's more probable that Chad would have won out in the QB competition. Clemens was throwing picks every day in camp and Ratliff was a preseason wonder that we know very little about. Yes, not addressing the QB situation was a mistake. The Favre trade, to me, was an admission of guilt if anything. It was a reason to cut Chad loose and a way to move forward instead of continuing the futility.

One issue I have is that you think we should have built from the ground up. I think this regime has actually done that, although I don't like the fact that they tried to do it in a diplomatic fashion by hanging onto guys like Chad and Vilma and DRob until it was proven they wouldn't work out. But we have a young core (Mangold, Rhodes, Harris, Revis, Cotchery, Brick) and another core of mid-experience vets (Jenkins, Pace, Moore, Coleman, Thomas) and a group of seasoned vets providing leadership (Ellis, Faneca, Barton, Coles). You can't just cut every player on the roster and start over. I've asked you a few times what you mean by 'building from the ground up' and you never really provide specific examples. Let's hear it.

Even if Chad has sb talent around him he will never win the big one. All his drives fall short like they did v.s us in the first game. His presence here would have given us two more years of being mediocre at best. With Clemens, AInge or Ratliff we would have at least seen if they were the answer and knew what we had to do going forward for the most important position of the field. If Farve can catch the lightning in a bottle great. If he can not we are probably screwed going forward. Chad was throwing picks every day and every game last year and it carried over into the season yet half the board wanted him to start again this year. If Farve retires this year are we still in a state of Futility or do we have something to look forward to in the future. A rookie, Unproven guy in Clemens and guy with not Nfl game experience in Ratliff. If Farve leaves after this year how are we set up for the future?

So... what you're saying here... is that if we had traded Chad and gone with the younger 3 QBs on the roster, we'd know what we have this year... but with Favre we would have to wait until next year...

I only count a one-year discrepancy. Where do the other 4 years come in?

And I agree with the guys who are the nucleus but I would have gotten rid of Ellis, Barton, Coles and all the other older guys and went young. I agree with the additions of Faneca, Jenkins and Pace but I would get guys who could grown and learn to win as a group. And I would have accepted teh fact that we would s**k for a few years. Like the guy in Miami is doing right now. Jason Taylor was gotten rid of while they could get something for him, He gets rid of guys a year early as opposed to a year to late and build teams built to win over the long hall. Im don't like the hope for a miracle Lighting in a bottle way. It gets you back in the same mess if it does not work.

FOURTHAND LONG, you should just give up and admit your argument makes no sense. It was well established that Pennington had all but locked up the starting job before the Favre trade. So the ONLY way what you said makes sense is if you think Pennington is still "developing" and furthermore that he would keep developing for another 5 years (until he's not that much younger than Favre is now, I might add -- at which point when he's finally "good enough" in your estimation, you probably will insist he his setting SOMEONE else back and we start the cycle all over?)

Sheez, by your logic the Packers should have dumped Brett Favre a decade ago too, because his presence was "holding back" Matt Hasselbeck's development.

I'm just a simple man -- I like to find wo are the best players RIGHT NOW and put them on the field. "In the long run we're all dead."

What if they s**k? Then it is back to the drawing board. Plus the team has to gel over a few years as well. We do not have a Sb team so it is going to take a few years no matter what. If we draft somebody in 09 what year do you think they will be ready? 2012 the earliest.

Wait, Ellis has been one of our most consistent performers this year, why do we get rid of him? And Faneca has been one of our least consistent performers this year, why do you agree with his acquisition? And why is Ellis being cut smart because he is older but Faneca a smart move? Faneca is a year older. Are you drunk?

You still haven't explained how Favre adds 4 years. Just admit that you're wrong unless you want to continue to make yourself look like a bigger moron than everyone already believes.

I don't know why you guys are getting all hostile against champ. Knowing the way he abbreviates, I read this thread title completely differently. I see...

New York Jets, No Other Teams a Playoff Team

The only thing missing was the comma. Stop giving champ hell. He loves the New York Jets. Tell 'em Champ. Tell 'em how this is really what you meant. Tell 'em the reason why you Cimini's blog was because right now we're not firing on all cylinders and how our best football is yet to be played on both sides of the ball together at the same time. Tell 'em how we're playing shitty football in comparison to other 4-3 teams and are still on the verge to take the Division and/or position ourselves in the driver seat for a Wildcard spot. Tell 'em champ.

Can't those same things be said of ANY young QB prospect we would draft? They would also be a "rookie, unproven guy" and "a guy with not NFL game experience." Not every QB drafted in the first round turns out to be Manning. They are just as unproven as Clemens, Ratliff, and Ainge. They only way you argument works is if you think all three guys absolutely suck and not worth taking a look at - I can give you Clemens in that regard. But Ratliff has shown enough that he needs to be looked at seriously and Ainge hasn't gotten enough reps yet but is a prime physical QB speciman.

And like Abyz is saying, it only sets us back 1-2 years (3 at most). So I am not sure where the 5 year theory is coming from either.

Not if they get it right for a change. Im not in rebuild mode now. We spent 100 Mil plus to go for your shot to get hot in Dec-Feb so we will revisit strategy after the season.

    Good morning

As I have asked so many before you & maybe even you in the past give me some positives about the NYJs to post about. In your case I will keep it simple do it just for the Woody era. That would be 1 year of AG 5 years of Herm & 2+ years of the so called genius. Before you reply I would think you should know my standards for excwllance are many, many levels above yours & I mean many levels so think long, deep & hard before citing your examples

You can not be that silly that you do not realize that it is the product that Woody/Tanny & Eric put on the field & coach that generates the negative articles. Do you think there are negative articles about the NYGs? Now again if you do not like them I assure you I am NOT Canny or Cimini so instead of being angry with me be angry at our owner/GM/HC who are ones that that picked the players that are generating the negative article

Now it seems my posts stress you out & for sure I do not want to give you a heart attack so I recommend that whenever you see a post of mine that you just totally ignore it & just move on to posters who you consider more to your liking. I think you can also program your account to ignore my posts I would not mind in the least. I know I will be missing nothing not reading ur posts.

I guess you did not read a whole lot of my posts over the past off season other wise you would have seen all the positive posts I made concerning the after glow of SB3 & the 68 PO game vs Oak. The reason they were positives naturally is that they are the ONLY acheivement the NYJs have had in the last 40 years. If you cannot or will not accept those facts then maybe you should find some other interest then the NYJs to take up. May I suggest a few like Xwords puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, working with clay etc, etc

BF will throw TDs and some picks like JWN, the D will get TOs and the JETS will get to the PO. If not Man should get canned and PSL $ spent on COWER to bring a championship back to the NYJ
