The Jets didn't get played re: Austin. They may have been willing to take him at 9. I doubt they'd be willing to give up what St. Louis did to take him at 8.
They had those guys 1-4 OVERALL ??? Or after the Top 5 or 6 guys were gone ???? You saying if the Jets had the overall #1 and #2 picks they'd have chosen from those 4 ??
I just think that St. Louis priced the Jets out of the Austin sweepstakes. He was worth staying put for. He wasn't worth giving up the draft for when the Jets have so many needs.
The lack of value argument i'm seeing from many i don't get.. The Jets went straight BPA, and took 2 guys virtually everyone had ranked within their top 10-15. Highly ranked SEC defensive prospects. I loved Austin and Jordan, but they weren't there. By pick 13, neither Guard was there either. The way the draft fell, those were good picks assuming we did not have a trade down partner. I really liked Star and Jarvis Jones, and thought they fit our D better. However, obviously the Jets had the option of those guys and thought more highly of Richardson while sticking to their board. Unlike the Vikings who blew their load on Patterson, the Jets still have all their picks left too.
Minny doesn't have all the needs the Jets do so they can do packages like this. But we had so many more needs. We have no LBs and no guards. If we could not trade down, I would have taken Jones. And let's not pretend Millner doesn't come with red flags of his own. He's always hurting, won't be in camp, only had 6 picks in 3 years and played in a system that didn't require him to press.
we must be playing more 4-3 and 4-6 this year. If not we would have chosen Jones as we had plenty of 3-4 NT depth with Ellis, Garay, and Harrison. SO lets take a look at our LB on the roster VS our DL (we have soo many holes on offense as well but I'm not going there). DL- WIlk, Coples, Garay, Harrison, Ellis, Richardson LB- Harris, Davis, Pace, Barnes, Saap, McEntire
all these comments about people not knowing how wilk or coples will do in a 4-3 dont make any sense to me ... do you guys realize that were in an odd front less than half of the time??
thats assuming that the jets had richardson and star/floyd similarly ranked on their board ... clearly, a lot of teams didnt have floyd ranked too highly
Did you guys hear the Giants GM say the guy they picked was #1 on their board. This is what GM's say. They can't draft a guy and then immediately shit on them by saying they wanted someone else but they were already taken.
Apparently the sticking point on Floyd for a lot of teams was arm length. They thought he would have trouble disengaging from NFL offensive linemen because of his arm length. Mo Wilkerson - 35 1/4 Quinton Coples - 33 1/4 Sheldon Richardson - 34 1/2 Sharrif Floyd - 31 3/4
Or they just had other needs like GUARD. Remember 8 guards went in the first round. So that explains how star/floyd could drop. And who are our starting guards again??
At this point based purely on what we know I would assume that Willie Colon is our LG and Brandon Moore will be re-signed to be our RG. It's also very possible that the Jets will draft a guard later on in the draft.
With only 4 or 5 offensive players taken I have no idea why so many ppl here are asshurt over these picks. Most of the offensive talent is still on the board.
not possible. based on this message board the draft and f.a. is over. rosters are locked and the season starts tomorrow
