Or until their contracts are up......and Woody won't pay them....and they are traded....for draft picks....for raw rookies. Wash, rinse, repeat.
My initial reaction to both picks was "ah shit not again", but after a little sleep and some non emotional reasoning. It's not that we took bad players so much as we took players that aren't need picks. Millner was the best DB prospect in the draft and Sheldon was allegedly number 2 DT. However with Floyd sliding down the board the way he did maybe there is something going on there we don't know about. Maybe Richardson is the real consensus 1. In that case making him a BPA at the 13 because Floyd was considered a top 5 pick. This was a weak draft to begin with in regards to the talent level at the top; add to that a strange composition of unknown commodities and positional breakdown. There were stories surrounding just about every team in front of the Jets trading down. With only a handful of players worth trading up for it was going to have to break just right for us to either get somebody special at a position we really needed or get somebody to bite on a trade. Sure, Milliner and Richardson picks probably won't help us win too many more games this season and they don't address our most glaring weakness. but what it does do is add potential top tier talent to our roster. We didn't take complete garbage here; it's not a repeat of Kyle Brady over Warren Sapp. It might look like it on the surface because of the position stacking but these guys aren't stiffs. Cheer up fellas, we could have drafted sulkmaster Geno Smith or something worse. We could have traded down and then took a big reach. How silly are they Bills going to look when Smith, Barkley, Nassib, Glennon is there for them in the 2nd round. They could have had a playmaker in Austin to go with Kolb or whoever they took. Hopefully we can still do a few little things in this draft in regards to our offense. I'd like to see us get Ivory with a 5th grab one of solid TE's left and a Guard some where in between. I'd like to take a flyer on a QB but our situation is so strange we need to let it weed itself out. Throwing some poor kid on the fire might now be the best thing to do. Unless something magical happens with our QB situation I think our offense is going to be sketchy as hell once again. I doubt we are going to win every game 13-9 this season so we are probably taking our franchise QB in 2014. You take that with the fact we will probably have 11 or 12 picks and big time cap room to play with and you have the makings of a very exciting 2014 season. As for this year I'm looking forward to watching our d line actually apply pressure to the QB.
Funny.. 2 days before the draft he came off as a gentleman like legit football fan who "Wished us the best"..... now he is a vicious dickhead with childish comments.. your from florida eh ?... must have Miami fans in the family, good luck with Revis.. tell him to keep his nose clean from them good ole' bath salts.. you should probably follow up on that too.
Richardson I herd went up against Warmack and company - he had 14 tackles and a sack without much help. draftcountdown .com had him as the 9th best overall in their rankings I believe. ( I'd post a link but apparently I need 50 posts to be able to do that. )
Either way he'll feel the sting of Revis when he either gets hurt again or hold out for guaranteed money if he doesn't.
So I guess we have decided to go 4-3 like most of the other teams in the NFL have done..I'm ok with that but we have no LBs and no safeties and not enough picks or money to get them. Doesn't matter as we don't have a QB, TE, or OGx2 either. To make it worse we will probably win just enough games so as not to be able to draft a good QB next year. Also, sounds to me like Idzik is feeling the heat already with that tweet he sent out. And Scouts, Inc. had Milliner rated the 5th overall player in the draft and Richardson the 14th. It sucks because we need so much more but it's hard to say these were bad picks.
yup, just like they did with mangold and ferguson and harris. oh wait, they only did it with revis,a 2 time holdout recovering from an acl who wanted more than he should get. good job recognizing the trend bro
If those were 2 of the top 4 players on their board then their scouting dept. needs to be fired immediately. This shit is such a joke it's comical. Woody Johnson is a loser for keeping Bradway and Rex around. No real fan should support this joke. The leadership of this organization has completely sabotaged its fans.
Only real mistake I see was letting everyone know Austin was the one the Jets wanted most. Should have kept quiet.
I'd say we nailed one of them in Wilkerson. Coples is still a work in progress and I still need to see more out of him before I consider him a potential star in this league. This draft has Rex Ryan's prints all over it. How many interior d linemen is this team going to take without addressing the offensive side of the ball. It's a joke.
I'm sure Austin is awesome, I just don't think he was important as building our interior on either side of the ball. Not a fan of the Millner pick at all despite his potential. They could've taken Warmack and I would have thought this a perfect 1st round. Millner to me was redundant and a bad start to Idzik's career. Lets hope I'm wrong.
getting the top guys on your board is always good but sometimes you have to incorporate need and value. Was MIllner really the main need at 9? especially when he was the ONLY top 10 pick with serious injury concern (FIVE surgeries in the past 3 seasons)?? And while I don't dislike Richardson, why spend the 13th pick on a guy who was projected to be a late first rounder?? Especially with Floyd still on the board??? If you don't like Floyd for whatever reason, then trade down knowing that he will go before Richardson anyways. You can't just be ignorant of your position in the round when taking guys "at the top of our board. period." Once again, Idzik blows it.
The Milliner pick means Cromartie will be out the door after next season. Richardson will allow us to run the 4-3 and 46 formations. When running a 4-3 you don't need big time linebackers also. We need to go offense straight up for the rest of the draft. Maybe we grab a S at some point but not in round 2. I can see us having a mediocre year then in next year's draft build the offense
I guess I usually hope for the best, but expect the worst... I feel that in order to be a JETS fan anymore, it requires patience and a total suspension of reality. It seems they have no clue what they are doing. Reason #1: Let's assume Dee Milliner is the next Revis (which he is not). How did that work out for us? They'll under pay him, he'll hold out, he'll want too much money, and we'll trade him for a new safety in 2018. Reason #2: if they have any depth (very little), its on the interior line. With Wilkerson and Coples. So what do they do? (jeopardy music)... They take another interior lineman. Brilliant. Does fathead Rex know there is another side of the ball and Sanchez is the clown holding it? Who's going to play TE? Me? Who's going to run the ball? Woody Johnson? My premise is no one in this organization appears to know what they're doing, so nothing they end up doing surprises me. At least I sleep better with that premise. But I'm getting too old. I was 10 when they won Super Bowl III. Time's running out for me.
In a 4-3 the starting LBs are Harris, Pace, and DeMario Davis. There is no depth at LB. I wonder how much they really care though if they plan on constantly having 5 DBs on the field.
