I hope so, he is just a rookie after all, and it is kind of expected. With that said, the fact remains that today he certainly is a huge reason why we are 4 and 4 with best defense and running game.
Crazy to see that in writing. If only it translated into wins on the field. Even more proof of how we are beating ourselves as opposed to being beaten by other teams.
Not sure if this has been posted officially or not. But... Our defense has given up 92 points (strictly when they are on the field). I have not done the math but I say with utmost confidence that no other team is lower than that. I know the Broncos were close but that would not be the case anymore. Some of the best defense of all time are in the 10-13 ppg range. I am not saying we are there because the best D's of all time do some scoring of their own. They also force turnovers at a rate much higher than we do. On numbers alone, 11.5 is prett GD phenomenal. HOU, NE, NO we have already seen. MIA twice, Outlook for the future is looking good my friends. Rex will make sure these guys keep doing their job , hopefully we can see the rest of the squad come together. Seeing these numbers is very uplifting.
The Giants have the #1 ranked defense, Jets are #2. Giants haven't had their bye week so it's averaged over 9 games, not 8.
yards per game is the measurement, not total yards. The after the Giants bye, the jets will be number 1
You might want to sort that. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/sort/netYardsPerGame/position/defense
Their yards per game average is slightly better 272.3 to 273.4, but our points per game is much better, at 16.8 to 22.7 I think it's a wash-
Pretty nice to be up there in a few critical categories (rushing offense, total defense, passing defense, ppg allowed) which shows that we're better than our record indicates. In the end tho, only thing that matters is our record
more that in football they never ever tell the whole story, unlike baseball. all those defensive stats don't explain how ST gave one game away, or how a botched hold gave another away.
only the jets can sniff out the #1 in yards on the ground and defense and be 4-4..... had to throw some water on the fire seriously the best stats to measure a defense are...... 3rd down sacks 3 and outs 1st down yardage yards per play jil
Correct. N.O. Week 4. Defense gives up 10 pts on the road. Sanchise gives up 14, we lose by 14. Buffalo, Sanchise throws away 5.and We still need a late penalty to lose that game. Miami,The Offense and Special Teams give up 21 without the defense touching the field.
I believe you can only attribute one loss to our defense- the first Miami loss. New Orleans and Buffalo= Sanchez turnover-fest. Second Miami loss= Special teams. Anyone who thinks our defense is a problem is a tard. Forget about numbers, the Jets D is one of, if not THE best in the NFL. But even they can't prevent scoring when they aren't on the field. I firmly believe that if Sanchez can simply keep the other teams hands off the ball (i.e. reduce turnovers), we'll be much better in the second half. He doesn't have to throw for 300 yards. I'd much rather watch us punt the ball away a lot than watch us fumble the ball or have an INT returned for a TD. The special teams fubar game was a fluke. That shouldn't happen again.
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...OTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-n=1 According to NFL.com we are second to the Giants by 1.1 yards
The problem with the premise of the thread is that the defense is mainly making it bones by allowing the second fewest passing yards with near league average rushing yards allowed. Team that with well below average sack production and below average takeaways and we end up as a merely above average defense. Lets hope they can kick it up a notch in the second half.
