He's not gonna be a double digit sack guy, but if he can help collapse the pocket and open up pass rushing lanes for our blitzers then he'll be a useful asset for this team.
He's definitley been a dissapointment thus far. In all reality anything that he can add to defense will be a bonus. Im rooting for the kid, you hate to see anyone labeled a bust.
I'll say he'll get 3-4 sacks and a bunch of hurries. He's also going to make a nice bunch of tackles on top of his taking up blockers. Friday Pace actually got credit for a tackle that Gholston had the initial hit on. In the backfield.
I think Gholson will blossom into a mediocre player. However, I don't think he could ever live up to the expectations. Remember people were surprised he was drafted so early. All his career, coaches have thought they could make a player out of him.
I read somewhere today, Newsday, where they said that with Pace being out, he was going to now split time at OLB with Taylor.
I really, really hope that's not the case. I may be a Gholston supporter, but he failed as a linebacker. That's the end of that story. It doesn't fill his skill set. I think they'd be best served by just letting Taylor do his best work filling in until Pace comes back. Hopefully it's only going to be the 4 weeks, rather than the 6. A month out is a long time when you consider he's not going to be able to run until he gets the cast/boot off. This is significantly worse than last year. Last year he was fully mobile while missing time. This year he's out of commission.
He's showing progress which is a good sign. He looks pretty good at times. If he keeps working hard like has been doing I think he should continue to improve. Hopefully his ceiling is alot higher than some folks here think it is.
