i remember him being solid... but he's either lost his confidence or... or something... he's bottom of barrel save %
I saw a stat that's kind of niche but I'll post it anyway. So the Rangers are 0-8-1 against teams currently in playoff positioning without Shesterkin in between the pipes. If you applied a .920 save percentage to all 9 of those Georgiev games, they still lose 7 of those 9 games. Georgiev hasn't been great when he's in net, but neither has the team around him. Completely different energy when Igor is in net.
And there is why I don't think they piss away assets at the trade deadline to make a push this season. This year they go as far as Igor can carry them and no further. But if Carolina and Colorado get knocked out or beaten up enough, that could be pretty far.
The thing with this deadline is that the Rangers will have significantly more cap space available to them to use for the rest of this season. After this year, most of that money evaporates. Nils and Kravtsov are deteriorating assets because Nils doesn't fit the system Gallant wants to run and everyone knows Kravtsov won't play another game for the Rangers.
I definitely wouldn’t give up anything other than those two and a 1st. Also wouldn’t want a rental. I think the Rangers are gonna make some depth moves to add to the third line with minimal salary. I think Yanni Gourde would be a good move. Kravtsov and a 2nd for Gourde with Kraken retaining most of the salary.
So Igor has a stinker and Georgiev comes in and gives up 2 on 8... as i have been saying we are not a TRUE SC contender yet
The Rangers are down 2 games in a row. It happens. The key to a run is still getting one or two of the young stars-in-waiting going. There's too much pressure on the first two lines until that happens and when they have a down game or the goalie has one we lose.
Could not agree with this more: This is a solid playoff team, but this is NOT a championship team This is a rebuilding team that is WAY ahead of schedule, so it is easy to be confused. It would be an absolute waste of time and resources to make any "buyer" trades this season. Just go into the playoffs with these kids and let them get some valuable playoff experience. Now is the time to see if we really have a Jack Adams quality coach. He needs to step up and stop the bleeding. This is why he was brought to this team: to mold these kids. Any further beatdowns as part of this losing streak is on him.
The thing is, Kravtsov will never play another game for the Blueshirts and Nils doesn’t fit the system GG wants to run. Those two guys should absolutely be packaged for something to help this year and beyond. Hopefully someone with term so it’s not a rental. Definitely wouldn’t do anything beyond those two players and this years first.
i'll take it... dont like to be giving up 4+ a game but... they seem to be in a wierd place this past week... road trip blues?
A win is a win. The thing about the Rangers this year is that they have been so consistent. Now the consistency is breaking down just a bit and it's good to get a win in the middle of that.
Defense doesn't look good at all right now. Lindgren has been awful recently and Gallant's insistence on using Hajek is ridiculous; they should have Zac Jones playing instead of that clown. Sloppy play will lead to 4 goal games, even when you have an all world goalie.
Rangers are 7-5 since the long layoff over the All-Star break. 33 GF and 30 GA. They haven't had a lot of injuries since then either. It's like they went into the break as a contender and came out as a marginal contender.
