Meet the scrapper on the verge of leading Rangers to glory

The gloves dropped, and Bob Crawford knew what came next, pitying a kid who just didn’t know any better.

It was 1977, maybe ’78, when he saw Alain Vigneault for the first time, a 16-year-old in his first season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, preparing to tangle with renowned tough guy Dave Allison.

Brave, but stupid, the unknown teenager appeared, about to learn the price of loyalty to his teammates.

“The whole league was afraid of [Allison] and I said, ‘Oh jeez, Dave’s gonna hammer this guy,’” recalled Crawford, later a teammate of Vigneault. “But Alain just about knocked him to China, he hit him so hard. The rest of the year, nobody liked going to his corner. He was there to answer the bell with anybody that wanted to go on the dance card with him.

“He always stuck up for his teammates, a tough guy who did whatever was needed to win.”

Rangers C Chris Kreider was the only NHL player to record at least 20 goals, 40 points, a plus-20 plus-minus rating and 80 penalty minutes this season.

Kevin Klein skated on own before before Rangers' practice. Not yet cleared to practice with team. Out again tomorrow.

I had to miss the game tonight...Saw Crosbitch scored two times...We played poorly on defense. We need respond better in Pitt...We never make any series easy at all and obviously nothing is easy with these Pens

Boyle is completely finished, please retire and Hayes was awful

Rangers are a better road team they'll probably outscore them 8-3 in Pittsburgh

look whos back......AV was out chessed. Hayes was horrendous. Brassard was horrendous. Mc D was horrendous.....BOYLE oooofah is that man done or is that man done.

But th eworst part was the effort....or lack of.

the one thing that worries me is Cindy has been in a fog for a month....if hes back then the Pens are no 8 seed......something is telling me 7 games for this one

i feel pretty decently about tonight gentleman, two reasons 1- the rangers are road dogs anyway, and 2- they're fuckin' overdue to play well for fucksakes!

I'm a pessimist by nature (being a longtime Jet, Met, Ranger, Knick fan will do that to you).

The Rangers have succeeded in giving a lifeless team a breath of life..........Presidents Trophy winners should at least come away with the first 2 at home....especially against a team that looked like they mailed it in already at seasons' end.

I don't like what I'm seeing from Hank...I don't like seeing that they've been both unable to dictate the tempo of the game nor adjust to the slow it down grind out game Pitt has dictated........I especially don't like the defense right now letting guys get in good scoring areas and.......well.....scoring. I don't like, as usual, the power play that continually come up small in huge spots.

Pitt has home ice, momentum and Cindy awakening.....I do not like where this is heading. I hope I'm wrong.
