I believe the all-time pro hockey GAA record for a goalie with at least 50 games played is Marty Turco with 1.72 on the Dallas Stars in '02-03. Hank is going to come mighty close Record for save percentage for goalies with at least 50 GP is Tim Thomas who did it last year with the Bruins, had a .938 and Hank is beating that as of today Not bad for a guy drafted 205th overall
Mcdonagh is so awesome. Finishing the other day's topin about putting Stepan in the same conversations as McD. Like I said, its silly. Stepan has potential to be Adam Oates, McD- Brian Leetch
:rofl2: By the time Leetch was 22. He had won the Calder, and was on his way to his 1st Norris and had been an all star 3 times.
the biggest save was with 2 minutes left against kovalchuk, it was a rocket of a shot, and he gloved it with authority.
I love McD. He's one of my favorites on the team but the Leetch comparison is a huge stretch. There's no promise of Leetch's type of offensive output with McD. And there's nothing at all wrong with that if he's capable of neutralizing top scorers like he did with Kovalchuk last night. I'll agree that his value is above Stepan's but McDonagh and Leetch are much different. Only defenseman over the last few years that could have drawn Leetch kind of consistant comparisons was Mike Green (before the injuries).
The Leetch point was a stretch but its his ceiling....Stepans ceiling is Adam Oates. So my point is that as prospect status goes, McD is far superior to Stepan. And call me in 3 years and lets talk about McD's offensive output
He is still young and raw. He needs to develop the nasty side of his game, but similar strengths. Ie: Stick work, body positioning, tons of ice time.
I agree that McD is a better player than Stepan, but my reasoning for putting him in the off-limits category is not only because of his potential, but because of the chemistry with Gaborik. If he had been traded away it could have messed with Gabby's goal-scoring and that would be bad for us THIS YEAR. Thus in terms of value to the team I see them as about equal, not individual skill/potential. If that makes any sense?
According to Yahoo's Puck Daddy, the asking price the Jackets wanted was Dubinsky, either McD or MDZ, either Hagelin or Stepan, Kreider, and a 2012 1st. HAHAHA
John is correct about the nastiness of Chelios but I see your point and its a good one. The nastiness you would figure over time will appear just from the frustration he dishes out to othe teams tops. He is a helluva player though. What an impressive game he played last night. Interesting team..very. The only thing that bothers me about this team is with all the great goaltending....with all the great defense and blocking shots...if you get a team in the playoffs thats able to put 3 goals on the board...the fire power on offense makes me a bit nervous. You could see this team being held to two or fewer goals every game in a series against the righ team. The good thing is that the explosive teams all suck on defense. Cant wait for the playoffs. Great matchups every where you look in the Eastern Conference.
I can see your point...especialyl THIS year. I would love Stepna if he was a little faster and a little stronger on the puck
I was thinking about it a few days ago..all dependent on how the cards fall the rest of the season, but there's gonna be a lot of solid first round match ups in the east. Great playoff hockey ahead of us.
Yeah...could get real lucky with some great matchups the first round but by the second round...going to have some classics. Western conference too.
