The nice part of this is he scores goals, and only costs money...no prospects invovled. I was thinking the same thing the last few days myself.
They are already in first and beating everyone that is capable of contending. I think they have a better chance at making some noise this year by not fucking with whats going on. This isn't a team that just out talents other teams. They win because they play tough and disciplined. I think making the splashy move probably would have done more harm than good for this season. How often do these trade deadline deals directly lead to a championship in sports anyway? Doesn't seem like a whole hell of a lot.
Malkin has the rash of injuries to Pitt in his corner which is gonna influence the voting. Anyone that watches the Rangers even sporadically realizes by the definition of MVP there's nobody more valuable to a given team than Lundqvist is to the Rangers
If you wanna go by the MLB theory, then there could be a lot of voters who look at goalies the same way as pitchers are perceived in baseball. Goaltenders have their exclusive award in the Vezina just as pitchers have the Cy Young. Last goalie to win was Jose Theodore of all people, ten years ago. Before him Hasek won back to back from 1996-1998. Before that you'd have to go back to the Original Six era with Jacques Plante. In that case the odds aren't in Hank's favor. I will say this though, I thought at least Hasek's numbers would be better in his back to back Hart seasons...take a look for yourself but Hank's are by and large better. Maybe this will be a more hotly debated topic down the stretch than I thought.
