I think we could actually give Gholsten some more time to prove himself, cut him during the season if he doesn't pan out and still clear him off the books. If this is the case I think we give Ryan more time with him but pull the trigger in the first half of the season if it doesn't look like he will break out.
He was given all season, with Rex as a coach, to show some signs of life. How much more time does he need?
I would lean towards cutting him now but if we have the option of cutting him during the season he would be like a lottery ticket. If he breaks out we get our pass rusher for free if not we can still cut him. It would help if he was good on special teams so that we wouldn't be wasting a roster spot while we waited to find out. I wanted a cornerback that year anyway.
He seems like a nice enough guy and I always like to give players the benefit of the doubt but we'll see. I wonder if he can find someone on the team to help him....forget Lawrence Taylor.
Lmao, I cant believe getting to the AFCCG screwed us over, but i tihnk the moral victory of gettin there was more of a positive
Maybe Pats fans wanted the Ghost, but there is no way of knowing if BB wanted him since he doesn't reveal shit.
Part of me just wants to see Gholston in the pre season and if he is still shit the cut him becuase of the uncapped year. IMagine we had chris johnson instead of Gholston. Greene plus Johnson best combo ever
I think the biggest needs of the offseason are; 1.) A pure pass rusher DE/OLB (Maybe peppers?) 2.) Another corner outside of Revis (We need a #2 corner) 3.) A big play WR (I love Braylon Edwards, but he drops the ball way too much) 4.) Free safety help (Rhodes took a huge step backwards the past two seasons in my opinion, while he shows flashes of high potential occasionally, he is just far too inconsistent. 5.) Offensive line depth (Faneca and Woody are getting up there in age, they need to groom up some replacements for the future or at least have some decent backups in case someone gets hurt) Just a side note, I was a huge gholston fan during the draft and I was extremely excited the Jets took him at #6. Lets face it though, he has shown us nothing as of yet, hes apparently not even good enough to play special teams. I am willing to give him one more season since in two seasons he has been in two different defensive systems. If he doesn not show any progress leading up to the start of the 2010 season I would trade him or cut him. At this point he has been worthless and a huge disappointment. This is why the #1 need for the Jets is a legitimate pass rusher!
You can't over do the Gholston pick when they picked Sanchez, Revis, Harris, Mangold, Keller and DBrick in the last couple of drafts. You're not gonna hit a hr every pick.
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/9508/denver-wont-let-dumervil-simply-walk-away For a pass rushing 3 -4 end, Dumervil will be a restricted free agent from Denver. Unfortunately he would be pricy.
I wonder how Gholston feels about all this negative talk. Can't believe he hasn't contributed at all since we got him, it's scary really.
Do the rules regarding free agency this year apply to RFAs? I would gladly burn our first rounder and obtain a third rounder to use on Dumervil.
I like Gholston. Without him Mangini might have stayed for another season and Rex would be totally awesome somewhere else.
