Mark Sanchez may play vs. Bills By Rich Cimini CHICAGO -- On second thought, Mark Sanchez may play Sunday, after all. New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, backtracking on what he said after the 38-34 loss Sunday to the Bears, said Monday that he's open to the idea of starting his sore-shouldered quarterback against the Buffalo Bills in the final regular-season game. As soon as he learned the Jets had clinched a playoff spot, Ryan strongly indicated that his plan was to rest Sanchez, who said after the game his right shoulder was "pretty sore." But after sleeping on it, Ryan expressed concern about sitting Sanchez, saying he doesn't want to disrupt his two-game hot streak. "Obviously, his health is the No. 1 priority, but the fact that he's in such a groove right now ... as the week goes on, we have to [make a decision]," Ryan said on a conference call from Chicago, where the Jets were stranded because of the blizzard in the Northeast. "My first though was, 'Let's not even play him,' " Ryan said. "But two things: I want to win this game. It's important to win this game. If we get to 11 wins, it's happened only five times in the history of the franchise. That would be huge. Plus, you want to go in with a win. "But his health is the No. 1 concern. It's a fine line. He's hot right now. We need him to stay at this level. ... So those are the things we'll consider. I don't want to say he's 100 percent in or out, to be honest." Ryan seemed to be leaning toward a middle ground, perhaps playing Sanchez for a short time against the Bills. The Jets don't have much to gain by beating the Bills, although they can improve their seed from No. 6 to No. 5. Even then, they'd still have to go on the road for the first round of the playoffs. Sanchez, snapping out of a three-game funk, has improved his accuracy over the last two games. He has completed 65 percent of his passes for 439 yards, one touchdown and one interception. With the once-vaunted defense struggling, the Jets may have to rely on Sanchez and the offense in the playoffs. Sanchez has minor cartilage damage in his shoulder, sources said, which showed up on an MRI exam that was taken after he took a hit to the shoulder in last week's win at Pittsbugh.
Personally I want to see Sanchez play a half. Like to see Josh Mauga, Jamaal Westerman, and Marcus Dixon get atleast a half of starting time. I'd like to see Kyle Wilson, and Drew Coleman be the #1, and #2 corners for a quarter or two. I also do NOT want to see Calvin Pace, Bryan Thomas, Jason Taylor, and, Trevor Pryce play.
I say start the starters, and let the subs get some snaps (incl. both backup QB's) in the 2nd half. Good to get some experience and some evaluation in before the post season. Would be a good chance to give McNight some touches on O, outside runs and passes.
I just want to win this game - I think we as fans deserve to see a win at our stadium to close out the regular season. I just don't see how losing to the anyone, let alone the Buttfuckalo Bills, can do any good for us mentally going into the playoffs. And I hate to be the one to bring up the "bye week syndrome" we have but if we start resting all of our starters and we come out and lay a fucking egg in KC, I am going to be pissed.
The Jets really don't have the luxury of sitting Sanchez in this one, he been inconsistent and you have to keep him rolling after a good error free game in order to have a chance this post season
This keeps coming up and is inaccurate. If we are the 5 we have a CHANCE of avoiding NE until the AFCCG. It is by no means set in stone. If we are the 5 that means Pitt is the 6 and playing at KC or Indy. It is very possible that Pitt can lose either of those games. We have to beat NE, this year or next year or whenever - nothing changes until we do. To think we can get lucky and make it through, without having to face them is a pipe dream. I was originally hoping to postpone NE as long as possible but upon further reflection I think I can handle losing to them in the 2nd a lot more than losing to them in the AFCCG.
i'd start brad smith at qb. don't you think he's done enough to earn it? plus, it gives teams something else to have to prepare for. last thing we need is brunnel under center.
Win > Rest I hope Sanchez starts. Yeah I'd like Sanchez, Taylor, LT, Mangold, etc. to get some rest, as well as, seeing more playing time for McKnight, Connor, and Wilson. But I would like to see it earned in the 1st quarter or half. Go into the playoff's knowing both our 1's and 2's just kicked ass.
