I've been looking at this point for a while. Jones is not going to match his 2009 numbers, nor come close to them. He hit the wall at the end of the season and there is no way he can run through it. I really do not understand how so many posters are treating Jones as an irreplaceable fan favorite. He is a career mercenary, he's only been on the team for 3 seasons and he has been complaining about his contract pretty much since he's gotten here. To top it off, his production at the beginning of the season was a joke until Greene's 4 carries against the Saints. He was good while he was here but at some point he was going to decline and that time is now. I am certainly thankful for the job he has done while on the team, but I'm not exactly getting separation anxiety from his departure. I firmly believe someone is going to sign Leon to an offer sheet. during the offseason. Whether or not the Jets choose to match it is going to be another story. I think they'll likely pay him anything to keep him out of New England but if some team from the NFC puts the ink on an offer sheet, he might be more valuable for the 2nd round pick he can bring in.
it's win/win.someone offers a contract that we can live with he stays.if someone over pays thanks for the draftpick.i.m.o. he stays, noone will want to give a second in this draft.
First off, its questionable WHY we would ditch TJ (proven and respected in NYJ) and go out and get some of similar age, and most likely command the same kind of wage. Chester is going to be top of the pile in FA HBs, has less miles than TJ and is more versatile than TJ, so no I don't think we will. I just hope that we end up resigning TJ once Tanny has done whatever it is hes trying to do. #1 rushing and we want to ditch that, doesn't make sense to me
That's pretty much why. Taylor still has a season or two left in him while Jones has firmly hit the wall.
We could have got one more season out of TJ and concentrated on other glaring needs. This is just 'robbing Peter to pay Paul'
Taylor > Jones as of right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Jones struggles to make 800 yards in a starting job.
Why? All the evidence points to him (if he replayed the same season) going over 1000 again. Hes slowly up, not in a wheel chair. We not only lose a darn good HB, but a leader and lockeroom presence.
Except he is not replaying the same season over, and he is a year older. He's coming off a knee injury at the age of 31 with 331 carries. The evidence really does not bode well for a return to his high production. I really do not know where to start with this one... and why is HTML turned off?
Sure, I think LW is worth a 2nd-round pick. I'd hate to see us lose BS, though. Letting TJ go will bite us in the ass. What a HORRIBLE decision. I hate to say it, but you just watch how that decision hurts us next season... even as talented as SG is.
Yep. I just think that putting all our eggs in one basket is, as you say going to nip our ass. Can't see us going into the season with 2 HBs, so we will most likely carry another vet...........so why not TJ. Is there any chance that we will resign TJ after making a splash in free agency?
I happen to like what I've seen of Chauncey Washington. What I've seen mostly however has been his college highlights. I know he hasn't played much if at all in the pros yet, anyone no anymore on C-Dub?
Not really overlooking it, just asking if it was feasible. Tanny is just such a master of contracts that I wonder if this is some kind of elaborate plan. No I haven't been on Big -Kats bong either
Just found this on PFT. Make of it what you will On Friday, the New York Jets will cut running back Thomas Jones, in order to avoid paying him a $2.8 million roster bonus. But then the Jets will try to re-sign him, a league source tells us. The team's ongoing interest in Jones makes sense, given the decision to apply only a second-round tender to Leon Washington. Surely, they won't be going from a multi-player rushing game to Shonn Greene and a rookie; so if Leon leaves they'll need another veteran. That veteran could be Thomas Jones. The fact that the Jets would risk losing Jones, arguably the most attractive of the exiled tailbacks, further confirms that big-market teams won't spend more than they think they should spend even without a salary cap. The easy approach would be to pay Jones and not risk having to replace him; the Jets instead are more inclined to keep their the money and take their chances.
Like I said, it sounds absolutely crazy, but my gut feeling is, is that theres more to this..........
I just saw that Justin Fargas was released on rotoworld. I think he could be an alright replacement for Jones to split carries with Greene and Washington (assuming we bring him back.) What do you guys think of Fargas?
