Agreed. I still think we need TJ on this team. I think we're making a huge mistake not retaining his services. Hopefully they let him test the market and he comes back to the Jets. If not, I'm down with Portis for sure. I think he could fit in very well with SG and LW. I think he knows his role as a #1 is diminishing and would gladly come to the JETS.
Per rotoworld (NY Daily News): Chauncey Washington-RB- Jets Mar. 1 - 12:15 pm et Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum is excited about backup RB Chauncey Washington, according to the New York Daily News. Good to know I'm not the only one
What's not to be excited about? 4 career attempts for 9 yards after 2 seasons in the league, and we're his 3rd team.
I think it was Rex who said you can never have enough RBs when they drafted Greene. Especially if he's serious about "Ground and Pound" being more than a one-shot deal. We're still a defense/cold weather team, I can't imagine we're going to morph into Sanchez throwing the ball all over the lot just because he isn't a rookie anymore.
You do realize 12 more pass attempts a game would leave him tops in the league, right? And 16 would put him at 650 for the season. I didn't realize he was Matt Schaub.
Hey, when they said the Cowboys were excited about Miles Austin everyone thought they were idiots but he turned quite some heads this year didn't he? Not saying the guy will be a superstar but many players suck in the beginning and get better going on in this league. Chauncey had many injury problems but I feel if he can stay healthy this whole off-season & season he'll be a valid #3 RB. I'm not Nostradamus but I believe in this kid...
Not that this is shocking at all or anything. The Jets have announced that Thomas Jones will be released on Friday. "We have informed Thomas Jones and his representatives that we will release him on March 5," GM Mike Tannenbaum confirmed. Jones posted career highs in rushing yards (1,402) and touchdowns (14) on 331 carries last year. His passing-game production was way down, however, which is often the first indication of running back decline. Jones will be a sought-after commodity in free agency, but is more likely to disappoint his next team than remain a high-level feature back. He turns 32 before the season. Mar. 1 - 3:09 pm et
The only thing that makes me think he may have some talent is that he could only have been buried on their depth chart behind a very good corps of runningbacks. I'll cross my fingers, but I'm not holding my breath.
He was dinged up all training camp/preseason. I think part of the reason it took so long to see him on the field was that he was still injured.
Oh yeah, a foot or ankle or something, right? Again, that's why you need a few good RBs, they get beat up, esecially if you want to run it 20-30 times a game.
I think that was a lot of it, because as soon as Leon went down in the Oakland game Greene came in and started busting out runs right away. I do think he might have been nicked up early though but I don't really remember because he wasn't playing anyway.
