Athlon Sports said we win, everyone has their own opinion. All that really matters is your own, anyone can have a prediction. Mine is the Jets go at least 12-4. AT LEAST.
Talk about over reacting! The facts are as follows: (1) Sanchez is much better prepared to lead this year than his rookie year and should have a much better season, hopefully emulating his playoff performance. (2) We still have the best o-line in the business despite unnecessary concern over the over rated Faneca. (3) Our receiving corp is much better than what we started last year with. (4) Holmes is the x factor and will be a major factor starting week 5. (5) LT will have a big impact both on the field and in the locker room. Last year was definitely a time to be concerned about the offense. This year we are in a MUCH better position to have a strong offense.
I agree with everything you said, but that's not going to stop me from holding my breath every time Sanchez steps back to throw.
Agreed. All the tools are in place for Sanchez to succeed but I don't trust him 100%. Until he shows he can lead this team and put up good/consistent numbers for a large span of the season, I'll continue to hold my breath. I think he'll improve his numbers from last year but will stumble at times. 3500 yds 20 TD / 15 INT 85 passer rating. If he has a season like that I'll be satisfied considering the defense and rushing attack. Sanchez's job is to not screw it up.
I can understand that, but I think he'll be just fine. With our defense if he can average anywhere near 20 points a game we might just win every game.
Nothing wrong with some cautious optimism... we are Jets fans after all. Seeing is believing every year. I'm not too worried about the OL... it will pan out. The whole TR and Leon thing is overblown. We survived not having Leon last year, and I think folks are going to find LT a suitable replacement for TJ behind this line. And Richardson will be back with us before you know it, so no big loss there in the end. At WR we are the same spot we were last year until we get Holmes back. Once we get him back on the field I think in a game or two things will start to click and the offense will take off. They may not be world beaters, but so long as they keep Sanchez focused he should be able to manage some wins for us. I expect our defense to be BIG this year so that will take some pressure off. I think it will be interesting.. might be a slower start than we like, but once they start getting in the zone they will be good.
Call me the naive optimist, but I'm not as worried about Sanchez as everyone else. L.T. said after the 3rd preseason game, I think, that nobody does any offensive planning for preseason etc, so I think they kind of just let Sanchez go out there and sling it around. And yeah, he wasn't very good. When the season starts, they're going to have a tight game plan for Sanchez to play with, maybe add a fourth colour to the QB colour chart and go from there. I think things will be fine. The other big thing for the Ravens game is that they've had some big shake-ups in their locker room too, and defence always gels before offence. If they're conservative with Sanchez early and he doesn't turn it over, it won't be a problem. The Ravens are missing their two best players from their secondary. I just hope that Ngata and Cody don't sit on Sanchez.
OK, wasn't sure. But seriously, no colour chart? So now colour charts can return to their original god-given purpose: telling us if terrorists are coming.
Wait, didn't he pass for 60% and a 1:1 TD:INT ratio like we all hoped? Let me check... 31/48 (that's 65%) 2TD 2INT (that's a 1:1 ratio). Passer rating of 76 is about 13 points higher than he managed last season. Looks like progress to me?
I was almost about to post the same thing. some of this verbatim..weird anyways, i feel the same way you do in part because of the lack of game specific planning involved in the pre season. That is a huge aspect of the game.... but people also forget the human and mental aspect. Do you really think, even as professionals, that players give their best and all out effort in the preseason? Even this jets team, who lives off adrenaline. Fact is, the preseason is the time to make MISTAKES. When the lights come on, the real playbooks come out, people play faster, they hit harder and are not worried about injuries as much as they are in the preseason. The crowds are louder, the games have more implications. It's natural to play a step slower or lack focus when the game isn't as important. And because of that, i really don't get the sky is falling mentality about our offense. Preseason is glorified practice. The only ones who are going balls to the wall are the ones who are in danger of being cut or have something to prove. I guarantee you when the w and l's start counting, we will see the best of our team. You can't force or replicate the energy and intensity of a live regular season game.
Our offense is simple. A great running game which gives Sanchez managable 3rd downs. On those 3rd downs there is always going to be a nice checkdown in LaDainian Tomlinson. Edwards is the deep threat to stretch the field while Cotchery gets the possession stuff and tough catches. Holmes can do a little bit of everything once he's on the field. We could have an above average offense if Sanchez improves, but so far in the preseason I haven't seen it. It's more likely he needs longer to learn than the average rookie qb coming into the league b/c of his college inexperience. So this might be a glorified rookie year. For all our sakes I hope I'm wrong.
Yes it will. What was missing last year was the check down, which is why Jones is gone and Tomlinson is here. As soon as Mark starts looking to check it down, getting 5 and 6 yards consistently, the entire offense will bloom.
The offense comes down to 4 things: 1) Can Sanchez limit his INts - his completion percentage is important to keep the d from stuffing the box but his Int's are what killed him last year. 2) Will LT have a resurgence will a capable run blocking line? 3) Can Shonn stay healthy? 4) Do we have enough WR on the roster in case of injury, What we have is quality but what is the plan in case of injury?
I agree with this. I also think that Tomlinson is going to see a lot more game time early on than people might expect. Greene is clearly the guy now but I'd be surprised if the Jets give him a workhorse load during the regular season. With his being injury prone and no viable power running back around to replace him, I think the Jets will do what they can to keep him fresh throughout the year. Tomlinson looks like he'll be able to pickup the slack admirably. Hopefully it sticks for the whole season.
As to #4... the Jets will likely use Keller and Cumberland in receiving sets often so they'll almost double as receivers in a sense. I don't think the Jets are going to be starving for receivers, and we'll likely have Coles back after week 1 as well.
Edwards,Holmes,Cotchery,Coles,Keller, Woodhead. If we get so mangled that Two of the three actual WR's are out leaving us so short that we can't put two real WR's on the outside and Woodhead in the slot we're proba bly already F*d.
