Exactly. I'm not giving up on the season. And we've seen more than most teams that as long as you get into the playoffs, you have a chance to do damage. But our team wasn't good enough to even make the Super Bowl last year, and now it looks like we've regressed a lot. Of course, if New England's defense stays this awful, and the Bills remain the Bills, it's certainly possible that things could look a lot better after this week. But we've looked like crap for 3 out of 4 games this year, we're going to need to step up in a big way to win this week. As for the OP, threads like this add little. "BELIEVE, GUYS!" What does that add to the board? We're Jets fans, and while there are a few idiots who have completely jumped off the bandwagon. Whoever made the thread that said our best case scenario was to suck for Luck. That guy deserves to be shot. If you want to make a case to believe because we have 4 returning starters on the OL and they'll figure it out, and Greene and Sanchez aren't as bad as they've looked because of that, and the defense will regain consistency and lead us to the playoffs.that's one thing. If you want to say "The Jets are going to beat the Patriots, I believe it," well, what does that add to the board?
That was last year with some different players , we lack quality depth. Its all very well being upbeat, but what exactly have you seen that makes you think we will beat the Pats on Sunday? If you want my prediction, I think more like Jets 12 - Pats 44. I think its going to be horrible again.
Except that you lost to Oakland and we beat them thus giving us the tiebreaker. But take that information you said and tell it to the OP. He thinks you guys will have sole place of first.
The premise of the thread isn't actually that bad since it's true that all we need to be on top of the division is a win and a Bills loss. However, unless our offensive line drastically improves there's little chance we will win this week.
I remember when I use to believe in Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, NFL football teams winning with offensive line struggles...
Come on that's just splitting hairs. If the season ended next week yes, but it's basically a tie for first.
That's exactly what I'm talking about. I wonder if you thought that way going in. Probably not ... but you're over-reacting to a bad performance. The same players you thought were very good players 9 months ago, suddenly aren't good anymore. How does that make any sense? You're either good or you're not. It normally doesn't change overnight without any major reason. Please explain to me why we should suddenly suck, even though we're returning 10 starters on defense and 9 starters on offense from a team that just went to the AFCCG 9 months ago. Did they all forget how to play? There's a huge differnce between playing like shit for two games, and not having good enough players to win. I bet you're of of those fans who gave us ZERO chance to beat Pittsburgh and make the playoffs after we lost to NE and Miami last year ... because in those two game we "didn't look like a good football team" ... but we were a good football team ... and we still are. I'm certainly not saying we looked good the past two weeks, but I've been watching the Jets long enough to recognize the difference between good players and good coaches having a bad game vs. just not having good enough players on your roster to compete. I'll take ths roster, and this coaching staff over most in the league. We may not win in Foxboro on Sunday, because so few teams do ... but I bet you'll have a completely different opinion on the quality of this team on Monday morning.
I think a good part of it is just not respecting the Bills yet. To me, and most Jets fans, the Patriots are our competition. I don't completely discount the Bills, but right now, we're chasing the Patriots. They're the team to beat in the division. Buffalo doesn't have enough of a track record yet. If you had beaten Cincinnati, it might be a different story. But losing that game is a major buzzkill for the Bills hype. If you're still in 1st in week 8, then we'll respect the Bills a lot more. But they have a lot to prove. Who is leading the division in week 4 isn't that important, and going through divisional tiebreakers this early is even less important.
Yeah they just don't get it. That or the Bills are not be taken seriously enough yet. With Peters + Cole out, and Maclin with a hamstring issue. I think we can compete with the Eagles and give them a hell of a game. But with the Giants starting to click again, this game against a struggling Philly is a must win!! But we'll be in first place reguardless this week
Buffalo may be a feel-good story but I don't think they are quite for real. Yeah they came back from behind to beat the Pats but it still took 4 INTs by Brady to barely win. I'll consider the winner of this weeks contest the leader in the AFC East.
That's fine. Luckily the NFL plays by different rules. Whether people like it or not, view us as a joke or not....We are still in first place.
I'm not even intentionally making a big deal about it. The OP and a few others just seem to agree that the Jets would have sole possesion of first place for some reason. That is blind hope and homerism at it's climax. But this is all a mute point anyway when Freddy Jackson and Spiller run all over and destroy the Eagles.
You're right, but for the wrong reason. If the Jets and Bills are both 3-2 after this weekend, the Jets will have lost two games in conference (Raiders, Ravens), and the Bills will have lost only one in conference (Bengals, Eagles). Common opponents is, I think, the 4th tie-breaker behind head-to-head, divisional record, and then conference record.
Despite what you may think, I didn't think we were a great football team last year. I thought we were good in spots and very week in spots. I thought Slauson kind of sucked last year but having him wedged between Mangold and D'Brick covered it up somewhat. Now with Mangold hurt Slauson sucking matters, the injury to our starting RT matters and Mangold being hurt matters big time. Our starting tailback should be getting SS right now. Maybe McKnight is going to step up? Greene looks like he is destined to become a rotational back not a big time starter. On D I thought our lack of speed in the front 7 was a big issue last year and teams are exploiting it again this year. I think Lowery and Pool gave us a little more coverage at safety than were getting right now. When your team is built to play smash mouth and your OL isn't very good it can make what should be a very good team be very mediocre and beatable. That appears to be the case. Teams that are built on the OL and D that have no OL depth can go to hell pretty quickly. The Giants looked like a team that would be in the SB hunt for years, Buress shooting himself might have cost them a ring, they got a little old up front on the OL and a few key injuries in the Backfield and they weren't that good.
You're right, I still think it's funny that this even being a discussion in the middle of week 4 though lol. This thread is nothing but a chance of false hope of Jets fans making themselves feel better about their team and chances of a postseason.
Well you had your great win over the Patriots, your undefeated record right there in your hands and then you played the Bungles and lose... Maybe this is the Bills year but it's still a 16 game season.
